Hi,

Hope you can help! Feeling a bit confused/disheartened. I'm using One Step OPKs and have been taking them since CD6 - not peeing for 4 hours before a test and taking them between 1-3 every day. Negatives for 6 days and then today at CD13 got a positive at 2pm. Took another tonight just for curiosity and it's negative?

Does that mean we're too late to DTD tonight?

I lost my wee boy at 18 weeks, his due date is on Wednesday and sometimes can't believe I'm actually back trying to figure all this out...you'd think I'd be clued up on it all by now, haha. Any help would really be appreciated. Thanks :)

So sorry about the loss of your little boy Thanks

I believe once you get your positive OPK your LH levels can drop within a matter of hours. Ovulation then happens anywhere between 12-36 hours after your peak so you definitely haven't missed this Smile

This was my first month using OPK's and once I got my positive I didn't test again, so can't comment on what happened with mine.

KerryW87 · 13/12/2020 19:58

@Hmmm22 Oh really? Ah I'm so glad you replied then, thanks so much! I thought once the LH levels dropped it meant ovulation had already happened. Here's hoping we haven't missed our chance tonight then 🤞Thank you!

Ah is it? Here's hoping it worked for you this month then! 🤞❤️ When are you due to test? x

Hmmm22 · 13/12/2020 20:06

No definitely not, I've followed the Sperm Meets Egg Plan this month and it says once you've got your positive OPK then to dtd for the next 3 days Smile

I'm only 3 dpo myself, so I think I'll do a test on either the 20th or 21st! Don't want to test too close to Christmas to avoid disappointment haha! When do you think you'll test? X

Juno231 · 13/12/2020 20:31

I second what the previous poster said - you now have 12-36 hours to ovulate.

I do want to double check what you mean by positive opk though? Was your line as dark or darker than the control line? Just want to make sure you're not assuming a second line means it's a positive opk.

KerryW87 · 13/12/2020 21:10

@Juno231 Thanks so much for replying - and yeah, the one at 2pm the line was as dark as the control! The one tonight the line was very visible but lighter than the control line. I just worried that once it was negative it meant ovulation had already occurred, shows how much I know! 🙈

Thank you!

KerryW87 · 13/12/2020 21:13

@Hmmm22 Ah amazing, fingers crossed then! 🤞

Oh exciting, will keep everything crossed for you! Haha yeah, totally get you on that one! Ovia is now putting my testing day as 27th December so I'll need to wait and see how things go - will likely cave and want to test Christmas morning 😂

How long have you been TTC? It's nice speaking to people who are going through the same...makes you feel less crazy! xx

OP posts:
Hmmm22 · 14/12/2020 06:49

@KerryW87 yeah it's horrible isn't it. Especially when you're always taught that you have sex once and you'll get pregnant Hmm very hard to get your mind away from that! Would be so lovely for you to get a BFP on Christmas Day after your loss!

We tried last cycle but didn't use OPK's, and I came off the pill in October. My cycles have been consistently 24 days since then, but I think we didn't dtd on ovulation last cycle as I went by Flo and this cycle using OPK's I ovulated a lot earlier then my app suggested I would!

How long have you been trying? Xx

YoBeaches · 14/12/2020 06:56

Yeah I agree with other pp you will ovulate within 48 hrs - but most women ovulate in the evening/overnight, if your sensitive enough to feel ov pain then you might know exactly when.

Also with sperm meets egg plan it's better to start dtd every second day up to OV then every day for 3 days, skip a day the. One more go. So I found the clear Blue tests better that give you flashing smiley when LH is rising then static smiley when it's peaked.

KerryW87 · 14/12/2020 07:14

@YoBeaches Thanks very much! :)

Oh, I've never heard of that plan? Thought I'd heard it all since we've been trying (with our wee boy in between) for over a year now! Thanks for telling me about it! As luck would have it, we have been every second day for the past week, so should maybe try DTD every day now?

Small victories, had a pillow under me last night and was so tired I fell asleep in that position for 8 hours 😂 hopefully that possibly did the trick 🤞

KerryW87 · 14/12/2020 07:20

@Hmmm22 Oh, I honestly wonder how I EVER had my two (11 years ago now) by accident!

Had my implant removed last October and we were trying for 5 months before we got pregnant with our wee boy. He was born in July, and this will be our 5th month of trying this time round too. It's been hard, and my eldest son is really quite sad about it all and desperate for another baby in the family too, so I'm too motivated to give up! Thank you 💕💕

Ahh you're so right, when I started using OPKs I realised my app was totally off too! That's good your cycles are regular though? Really hope you aren't trying for long and will keep my fingers crossed for a Christmas BFP for you! 🤞💕 xx

OP posts:
YoBeaches · 14/12/2020 08:49

@KerryW87 yes I would. The theory is that as sperm can survive up to 5 days so you try and have it 'there' ready to meet the egg. It takes 12 hrs for the egg to travel from ovary to uterus and can be fertilised by any little sperms it meets along the way. It also means that DH is producing sperm more regularly so it's in theory a better quality than if you haven't dtd for some time.

I can only say it worked for me 4 times. I lost 3 but that's due to a condition we didn't know I had at the time - I was getting pregnant every 3 months following this approach and 4th time I had treatment for my condition and she's now 17mths old :). Don't lose hope you will get there x

Hmmm22 · 14/12/2020 09:48

@KerryW87 oh bless you! Was your cycles regular after coming off of the implant?

Yeah I'm glad they are regular, they are slightly on the shorter side which was a concern to me last month but now that I know I ovulate earlier I feel much better about it.

You should definitely read up about the sperm meets egg plan, I've read a lot of success stories! We did every other day from cycle day 8 and then I got my positive OPK on cycle day 12 so did 3 days from then!

What OPK's have you been using? Internet cheapies or clear blue? Xx

KerryW87 · 14/12/2020 14:05

@Hmmm22 They calmed down after a few months! Pretty sure if I remember correctly they were 33, 31 and then consistently 29! This time around I had a 31 day cycle and three cycles that were 24-25 days, ovulated on CD11 last cycle. This month though with a positive on CD13 it'll maybe be a 28 day cycle? Exhausting, isn't it 😂

Ahh exactly, so glad you ovulated earlier than you thought - so as long as that's the case with ovulation then a shorter cycle might actually be a good thing! Less time to wait! Will keep everything crossed for you (and us both!) for Christmastime 🤞💕

I did have a wee read on it this morning - I wonder if we've basically been doing the plan accidentally? We did CD9, 11 and 13 which is when I got the positive OPK, so if we DTD the next three nights is that basically it? We'll be done in 😂😂

Is this your first month doing the plan? I'm using the internet cheapies, what about you? xx

OP posts:
Hmmm22 · 14/12/2020 14:33

@KerryW87 yeah so basically what you'd need to do is dtd last night, tonight and tomorrow, and then it says to skip a day and then do the deed again just in case. So that would be Thursday for you.

But I'm in two minds as to whether to do the last one as I just think that's quite a long time after the peak and it just makes it feel very forced 😂😂 but then I don't want to be kicking myself if I get a BFN that it could've been different if we'd just given it one last go haha!

Yeah it's our first time doing it like this. It feels like a lot but the logic behind it is good. And it also distracts from the two week wait a bit during that time as you're just focused on that haha!

I used internet cheapies up until my peak and then used clear blue ovulation sticks to confirm that it definitely was my peak. Can't justify using them any other time as they are so expensive haha! Xx

KerryW87 · 14/12/2020 19:17

@Hmmm22 Yeah, I'm with you on that one! The last one seems so far on after the peak that surely it wouldn't contribute to anything? Although, can't hurt either so we'll give it a go 😂🤞

Ahh ok, haha that is definitely justified! I'm just skint and also a cheapo, so being able to buy 30 ovulation tests and 10 pregnancy ones was like £4 suits me 😂

You'll need to keep me updated during the two week wait and here's hoping this is your month! I'm the world's worst - as soon as I'm on the wait all I do is wish time away and google symptoms, haha xx

OP posts:
Hmmm22 · 14/12/2020 21:31

@KerryW87 yeah they all do the same! I have a stash of internet cheapies pregnancy tests too!

I definitely will, please keep me updated too Smilelast month I ended up down a YouTube hole of people doing live pregnancy tests and talking about all their early symptoms, hoping I don't fall down that hole this month as I'm sure it made me even more impatient hahaha! Xx

Hmmm22 · 17/12/2020 10:31

@KerryW87 how are you getting on? Xx

KerryW87 · 17/12/2020 10:35

@Hmmm22 Hi, nice to hear from you! :) I'm doing ok, yesterday was my wee boy's due date so we went and laid flowers at the crematorium and then just spent the day at home. My sister-in-law wrote the most beautiful song for him the week he was born and gave it to me yesterday, nearly cried my eyes out of my head listening to it haha, but it was just beautiful. Sad day but special to know people were thinking of him.

We tried to stick to the SMEP as close as we could! DTD CD 9,11,13 which was the positive OPK and then 14 and 15. Counting down the days until I can test 😂🤞

How are you? When are you due to test? xx

OP posts:
Hmmm22 · 17/12/2020 10:57

@KerryW87 oh bless you! I'm glad you managed to make the day special. That was lovely of your sister in law and nice that they made the effort to make the day special for you.

That's good you managed to dtd on all of those 5 days. Fingers crossed for you!! We didn't end up bothering with the final day, so did it cd 8, 10, 12, 13, 14 in the end.

Couple more days to go until I can test. Have been having some weird and uncomfortable sensations but trying not to read too much into it xx

KerryW87 · 17/12/2020 11:36

Thank you ❤️❤️

Ah that's good going! I'm the same as you with the final day thing, it's not that I mind but also can't see the logic behind it so far after ovulation? Our final day would be today but after yesterday we're like exhausted zombies so it's not the sexiest of days to be honest 😂

Ah that's not long! Although every day feels long when you're waiting to test! I have everything crossed for you 🤞Ah I know, wish AF symptoms and pregnancy symptoms weren't so similar...wouldn't it be good if it was a clear sign like your pee was bright purple or something? 😂

OP posts:
KerryW87 · 17/12/2020 11:36

@Hmmm22 Replied and forgot to tag you, haha x

OP posts:
Hmmm22 · 17/12/2020 13:04

@KerryW87 yeah I really don't see the harm in missing it. A lot of the reviews I read say they didn't do the last day. I mean if it's not worked this month then maybe I'll try that next month!

Hahahaha I would love something like that! Would make it much easier wouldn't it?

I've just been getting some really weird cramping. It doesn't feel like normal cramping it feels like tingling/bubbling and it's a feeling that's making my body cringe. Never felt anything like it! Xx

KerryW87 · 18/12/2020 15:55

@Hmmm22 Here's hoping we're ok then! If not we'll both be dedicated last-day participants next cycle 😂

I've spent the afternoon googling people who have had cramps at 5DPO and then a BFP...as if I haven't learned the past YEAR that frantic googling does not magically make me pregnant 😂😭 Why do I do this to myself every month? 😂

Oh really? That's interesting! Are you still having them? Ahh keeping my fingers crossed, is it tomorrow you're testing? xx

OP posts:
KerryW87 · 21/12/2020 17:14

@Hmmm22 How you getting on? xx

OP posts:
Hmmm22 · 21/12/2020 17:19

@KerryW87 hello! I'm ok, I did a first response test at the weekend which I thought had a very very faint barely there line on, which I haven't had before, so I'm going to do another one over the next few days! I'm expecting a negative though but hoping for the best.

Still no period so that's always a winner haha!

How are you?? Xx
