Just a quick one, my first month doing OPKs and although I have a pretty regular cycle I have started on CD5. I was under the impression I should test morning and night however the morning tests are always so faint it seems a waste of time? I've started reading SMEP and it says only do evenings? Obviously I'm getting through a lot of tests so just wondering if anyone has ever got there positive OPK in the morning or if I should stick to late afternoon evening?

Thanks in advance

@bibs124 it was the first time we tried SMEP yeah. I got pregnant earlier this year and had a MMC in April so we've been desperate to conceive again.

When I got pregnant before, we weren't trying anything in particular, just DTD every few days and were happy with the idea it might take a few months. Unfortunately since the MMC it's kind of taken on a lot more importance so SMEP seemed like a good idea. I might try it again this month but start a bit later now I am more sure about my ovulation day.

LT103 · 03/07/2020 10:09

@bibs124 I know. Def made it more difficult haha. I’m 7dpo so depends how long I hold off when I test haha. I’m thinking I’ll test just a little early at 12dpo but I have tests in a drawer upstairs so can’t guarantee I’ll not test earlier 🙈

bibs124 · 03/07/2020 11:46

@Poppy10121 sorry to hear that ☹️ hope this month is it for you. TTC is so stressful, I can’t imagine how much worse it must be after a MMC. How are you feeling?

@LT103 I try not to have pregnancy tests in the house as all I can think about towards the end of the cycle is constantly testing! Does no harm I guess but seeing so many negatives is disheartening. You’ll have to let us know how you get on!

@bibs124 I'm having wild mood swings to be honest, feeling full of hope at the start of every month armed with my OPKs, Pre-seed and vitamins and then devastated when AF shows up again. Also everyone I know seems to be announcing pregnancies at the moment. But will keep on trying! It does feel helpful to be more knowledgeable about my cycle and the OPKs have helped to reassure me that I am ovulating. What OPKs are you using? I'm considering upgrading to the ClearBlue expensive ones this month!

bibs124 · 03/07/2020 12:20

@Poppy10121 I know what you mean, everyone around me seems to be pregnant! 3 announcements across 2 days the other week was horrible especially as AF had just arrived. I'm using cheap ones at the moment, the one step ones - which since ordering I've actually seen bad reviews on but will carry on this month. I have got some clear blue ones which I'm going to use once I get a peak on these to be 100%. What ones are you using? I never realised how much I go for a wee.. im 2 hours into holding and I'm desperate lol.. don't think the coffee helped Hmm

@bibs124 I had some super cheap ones from the pound shop at first but last cycle I used the Easy@Home plastic ones from Amazon with the Femometer app to record the photos of the results. The only thing i found was that with the photos, if the light wasn't good it didn't always pick up the reading properly. I have been doing them first thing in the morning and then trying to do an evening one too when it gets darker but I also pee at least every 2hrs in the day normally!

Thinking I might order the Clear Blue smiley ones this month that are supposed to show 4+ fertile days. Willing to start throwing money at this now!

LT103 · 03/07/2020 13:02

@bibs124 that’s probably a sensible idea. I got a pack of Femometer opk which had 10 cheap pregnancy tests with it. And I bought 2 frer so I had them. But yeah the temptation is there to start testing now but I know that’s stupid so I’m definitely going to wait til after the weekend.

bibs124 · 03/07/2020 13:58

Is this my peak 🤔 the control line doesn't look right to me? I only managed to hold 3 hours.. going to try again for 4 hours then do my clear blue.. these OPKs are hard work 😂

Right looks it go time then.. will do another one in a bit as these tests are a bit crap! We DTD last night and SMEP says 3 days from positive test so do I need to DTD another 3 days? Shock

@bibs124 You're good to go you ovulating goddess. Enjoy your weekend!

Poppy10121 · 03/07/2020 14:26

@bibs124 looks promising! I'd do another test this evening and see if it has gone down or stayed the same. If it is the peak then I think according to SMEP you need to DTD today, tomorrow, the next day, wait a day, then once more!

bibs124 · 03/07/2020 17:46

Here we go! Thank you everyone for your help. And good luck this month.. anyone who is just starting out and isn't very good at reading the cheapies (like me) I'd recommend also buying a pack of the expensive clear blue tests just so you know 100% and can stop worrying Smile

Urgh bastard DH has announced he's working this weekend. Which means he will inevitably be too tired to baby dance.
I don't want to announce I'M OVULATING to put pressure on him. But I've got EWCM and everything. My peak is meant to be on Sunday.
May as well count me out this month.

bibs124 · 03/07/2020 18:43

@zippityzip you can do this! Just need to get him in the mood! Grin

@bibs124 Getting turned down is more demoralising than a BFN 😒

zippityzip · 03/07/2020 21:57

As predicted....😞

Poppy10121 · 04/07/2020 00:00

@zippityzip can you try first thing in the morning instead?

zippityzip · 04/07/2020 06:35

@Poppy10121 I would, but he's left for work 😒

LT103 · 04/07/2020 06:57

@zippityzip maybe just try for a nice date night tonight with food and something to relax you both? See if you can get him in the mood?

bibs124 · 04/07/2020 08:11

@zippityzip I didn't manage to either last night! DP too tired Shock.. the countdown is on as I got my peak yesterday at around 1pm really need to DTD by 1pm today but not sure how I'm going to make that happen

OP posts:
zippityzip · 04/07/2020 08:22

Good luck @bibs124 and @LT103!

I will just accept the fact I'm out this month. Work is creating a bone of contention for me. I had sexy breakfast planned and everything.

Poppy10121 · 04/07/2020 08:37

@bibs124 hope you can jump on your partner this morning!

@zippityzip how frustrating :( hope next month the work pattern lines up better for you!

bibs124 · 04/07/2020 10:05

Not sure how but we managed to squeeze it in to this morning Grin hopefully that makes up for not DTD yesterday? Probably DTD tonight and tomorrow to be sure and then it's the dreaded TWW. Does anyone else get anxious to really try in case it fails? Must be a deeper routed issue with me I think Hmm

LT103 · 04/07/2020 13:25

@zippityzip thanks and I hope next months timing works better for you.

I’m not feeling confident this month. 8 dpo and started spotting this morning (and stupidly did a really early test which was of course bfn) So now I’ve spotted on ovulation day, 3 dpo and 8 dpo. Who knows what’s going on? Last cycle I spotted a whole 5 days before af and athough this is a bit earlier than that I can’t help but think this is start of the same!

bibs124 · 04/07/2020 14:36

@LT103 don't be disheartened by a negative test it's still very early days! It's so difficult as so many pregnancy symptoms I've read are so similar for periods

Been to see our friends and their baby today and DP was quiet on the way home, and I asked what was wrong and he said he just wants a baby 🥺 really hope this is our month
