Hi,

Just looking for advice, I had a D&C 4 nearly 5 weeks ago. I was never told to take a pregnancy test afterwards but since reading on here I feel it might be best especially as we are trying again before I even get my period back. I've just taken one and it says pregnant 1-2 weeks. I've heard it can take a long time to get a negative result but just wondering how long it does take to get a negative result and is this a false positive. I guess the only way I can really tell is by taking another one next week but I think I will be stressing out for a whole week! We had sex again two weeks ago, how possible is it that a pregnancy test would show the results that early?

Hi just to chip in to what I was advised by Birmingham women's after a D&C... they said to call after 3 weeks if I still had a positive pregnancy test. I think it was around the 3 week mark it faded.

As others have said They need to do a scan if it hasn't to check for retained product and may need to do another D&C if needed.

Sounds like yours is starting to fade though which is positive.

Sorry about your miscarriage OP Thanks that can't have been easy under the current circumstances,

I had a miscarriage and was advised to take a test two weeks after the bleeding stopped, it was very negative, two weeks later I got a positive test and my now 2.5 DD is currently dancing round to frozen

Hope you get some clear answers soon x

Getting my bloods done on Wednesday girls but did clear blue digital this morning which came back not pregnant but the cheapy line ones came back positive...has any one had any experience of the digitals coming back negative but actually are pregnant? I started experiencing some more symptoms yesterday of really sensitive nipples and felt nauseous all day yesterday but then that happens. Was also wondering if I could have had some residual hormone left in when I tested but now have actually become pregnant within that time as well?

@Bexsta101 did you order your digital test online or in the shop? There are lots of reviews on Amazon saying the test has given false positives. Seems to be easily damaged in transit.

Sorry you are going through this and I hope you get answers soon Thanks

Bexsta101 · 29/06/2020 16:46

@Daffodil21 I got it from the shop and the first one said 1-2 last friday and now saying not pregnant today so I'm thinking it was just left over hormones, but hopefully find out for sure on Wednesday.

BenScalesIsAGod · 29/06/2020 17:17

Sounds like levels dropping. If there is any hcg in your system on Wednesday you will need bloods repeating to see it going up or down x

Bexsta101 · 29/06/2020 17:37

Is it possible to ovulate while hcg is in your system?

OP posts:
Em39ma · 29/06/2020 18:05

Yes you can @Bexsta101
They thought I might have fallen pregnant last time before mine went back to below 15

Bexsta101 · 30/06/2020 08:24

I think I was ovulating over the weekend as I had thicker CM (sorry if TMI) from Friday, my nipples hurt all day Sunday and had pain in my abdomen and yesterday pain in my back. How do I know if it was to late to dtd, we only did it today when I realised I could have been ovulating...sorry this is all new to me. Had thick mucus Friday, saturday and sunday, painful nipples and feeling sick sunday and a little back pain yesterday...am I too late?

Bexsta101 · 30/06/2020 08:27

This is my ovulation stick from last night. Slightly lighter than the control line...am I too late???

How many weeks were you when you had your MC? The further along you were, the longer it takes for the pregnancy hormones to go back to zero.

Bexsta101 · 30/06/2020 08:32

@Neolara I was 13 weeks but baby died at 8 +6

OP posts:
Northeast55 · 30/06/2020 08:38

It took weeks for my HCG to go back to zero after D&C (MMC) although the sac had tried to split into 3 so presumably my HCG levels were really high (I actually got 3+ on a clearblue digi when I initially found out I was pregnant at 3+5) xx

bellbaeu · 30/06/2020 08:39

So sorry for your loss. I've had 2 so know how awful they are!

Just want to say it took 5 weeks for my test to turn negative after my first miscarriage.

Good luck and really hope your pregnant again BlushThanks

bellbaeu · 30/06/2020 08:40

Didn't mean to put the face emoji!!

Neolara · 30/06/2020 08:43

At 13 weeks, it can take 5 weeks or so for hormones to get back to zero. But having read your more recent posts, it looks like this has now happened. Best of luck with TTC.

Bexsta101 · 30/06/2020 08:56

Yeah well I did a clear blue digital yesterday and that came back as not pregnant and I'm pretty sure they are very good tests. So hoping it is all out of my system now. Just wondering about my ovulation now??? Hmm

Bexsta101 · 30/06/2020 08:58

@bellbaeu and @Northeast55 I'm so sorry it happened to you girls to. It is one of the hardest things I have had to deal with, but luckily and I hope you all do I have one of those most supportive partners and family that helped me through it

Hi @bexsta101 I’m glad you got an answer in the end on the pregnancy test even though it wasn’t what you wanted :(

On the OPK that looks like it could be just before or after peak, the peak is when the test line is darker than control line. I get a result like yours the day before and day after the peak. I recommend an app like Femometer to record a photo of each days test so you can get to know your cycle, it’s different for everyone. So you might not be too late at all! Good luck!

Bexsta101 · 30/06/2020 09:12

@Poppy10121 is it to late if I have already had the thick CM and the sore nipples though??

OP posts:
Moominmiss · 30/06/2020 09:23

@Bexsta101 I’m so sorry to hear about your mc, it’s truly an awful and cruel thing to go through.

I suffered a mc at 9 weeks in January and it took nearly 6 weeks for the hcg to leave my system. I’d been told to test after 2 weeks, tested, still dark lines and positive digital, tested a week later, still getting the same, another week later and still positives so finally my gp did blood tests. After the second draw we could see the levels were dropping and it was just my hormones taking their time to return to normal.
My gp had said anything up to 2 months was considered a normal length of time to have hcg fall to non pregnant levels. Even longer sometimes depending on how far along you are.

As for ovulating, if that test is from last night and the test line is darker or as dark as the control line then that’s your positive and I’d say you’re due to ovulate within 12-24 hours after that test so today will be your ovulation day, so I’d say no you absolutely haven’t missed your chance. If you can dtd today and tomorrow you should be in with a good chance!

Good luck xxx

Bexsta101 · 30/06/2020 09:27

@Moominmiss I love your name, my nickname for my other half is moomin! I'm sorry to hear about your loss also. The OPK test, the test line was slightly lighter than the control line, I think I may have unfortunately just missed the boat but at least I know what to look out for next time!

Poppy10121 · 30/06/2020 09:45

@bexsta101 the exact timing of symptoms varies for people, I use an app to record mine and for me I usually get symptoms like you describe in the day’s leading up to ovulation, before the peak. The peak means that it’s still about 24 hours til actual ovulation so you could have been in time! Fingers crossed!

Bexsta101 · 30/06/2020 09:47

Oh @Poppy10121 that's good news...I have had a few twinges in my left side today so fingers crossed

Hi Ladies, I have just found this thread - I am still getting faint positive pregnancy tests 5 weeks after my MVA procedure for a mmc at 8 weeks. The tests I am using are sensitive (10miu). I have been back to EPU a few times for a scan and blood tests. I was told there was no retained tissue my bloods dropped from 102 2 weeks ago to 34 last week. I am just finding it really frustrating as I want to conceive again and my body to return to normal. Is it possible to ovulate with leftover hcg does anyone know? The EPU told me it wasn't and that I should expect my first period 4/5 weeks (so 10 weeks potentially after mc) after getting a negative test. This just seems so long and drawn out. I am not due to go back for any more bloods and was just told to call back if I'm still getting positives in 2 weeks time. It's getting me down as I am desperate to conceive again but everything is just on hold atm.
