Help needed! Positive test after miscarriage

Hi,

Just looking for advice, I had a D&C 4 nearly 5 weeks ago. I was never told to take a pregnancy test afterwards but since reading on here I feel it might be best especially as we are trying again before I even get my period back. I've just taken one and it says pregnant 1-2 weeks. I've heard it can take a long time to get a negative result but just wondering how long it does take to get a negative result and is this a false positive. I guess the only way I can really tell is by taking another one next week but I think I will be stressing out for a whole week! We had sex again two weeks ago, how possible is it that a pregnancy test would show the results that early?

Hi, firstly I am sorry for your loss. MC is such a shitty thing to go through so be kind to yourself.

I was told to take to a pregnancy test 2 weeks after my MC. If it was positive I needed to call the EPU so they could check everything had passed (it was negative). Mine passed at home though so maybe that's why I was told to take a test.

I then ovulated a week later than usual afterwards (so 4 weeks after instead of 3 - I have a longer cycle). I got pregnant on the cycle straight after my MC, so yes it is absolutely likely that you could have a positive test because you are pregnant again 5 weeks later. It could say 2-3 weeks because those digital tests are from when you conceived. If you ovulated 2-3 weeks ago, which would have been 2-3 weeks after your D&C, then it would show was 2-3 weeks.

I would probably call the EPU again and see what they suggest - good luck!

@Bexsta101 sorry you had to go through such a horrific experience. If I remember rightly back to when I had missed miscarriage and D&C it took about 2 weeks for my tests to turn negative. Then in 2015 when I had a very early miscarriage I fell pregnant with my daughter on the cycle straight after, I didn't believe it until my clearblue digital jumped from 1-2 to 2-3 a week later. My daughter will be 4 on Sunday! 💝 I would reccomend contacting EPU or GP to verify. Good luck 🤞🏻

Bexsta101 · 19/06/2020 10:06

Thank you @Daffodil21 and @MrsTD88 for your advice. I rang the drs and they said it's unlikely to have any hormones left in my body but to check next week to see if it will change to 2-3 weeks. This is going to be the longest most anxious weeks ever! Luckily I'm still working so that is something to distract me.

Hi @Bexsta101 I really hope it's a new positive for you!

I had a miscarriage in April and I still got a positive pregnancy test for 4 weeks after, but it was a very faint positive by that point. I didn't use the digital tests that tell you a number of weeks but could see it wasn't a strong line, you could try a cheap style test to see how strong it is. Or as the dr said, just wait and see if it goes up next week - and hopefully it does!

Loladoodle · 19/06/2020 10:43

@bex following a d&c I did get pos tests for quite a few weeks I can’t recall how many but I remember it being very stressful it was possibly for 3-5 weeks after wish I could remember exactly. Best of luck to you, take care.

Bexsta101 · 19/06/2020 10:54

Thanks @Poppy10121 and @loladoddle. I do have a cheapy one at home so can try that and see how that comes out. I just dont feel pregnant like I felt last time but I know it is possible to not really have any symptoms at very early days. I'll let you girls know how it goes next week x

OP posts:
Bexsta101 · 19/06/2020 11:05

I mean I've just done the cheapy one and the line is very very faint but again who knows...I think I will just wait until next week and see what happens Blush

OP posts:
Bexsta101 · 23/06/2020 17:35

I found it to hard to wait a full week, only waited 4 days but still saying 1-2 weeks Blush going to have to wait until Friday

After my first miscarriage 18months ago I was getting positive test up to 8 weeks after my miscarriage. I was having to go to the Epau twice a week to have my levels checked.
I’ve just had another miscarriage and I had MVA but I’ve got take a test again next week to check it is negative.
So please check that level has gone up, and if not please get checked over.

Bexsta101 · 25/06/2020 14:55

@Em39ma did you have MVA with your first miscarriage? How long ago did you have your MVA this time? Yeah I think it is just pure hormones unfortunately

Poppy10121 · 25/06/2020 15:03

Good luck for your test @bexsta101 x

TokenGinger · 25/06/2020 15:06

Good luck ❤️

Em39ma · 25/06/2020 16:07

No I didn’t have a MVA I was left to pass myself. The nurses kept asking the doctors to do one, but they wanted to keep waiting.
I haven’t tested yet with my last, I only had the MVA on Tuesday last week. I have different doctors this time and they don’t want me to have the same problem as last time.

Bexsta101 · 25/06/2020 16:39

Thanks @TokenGinger and @Poppy10121. Ok @Em39ma well maybe cos you have to do it in two weeks after your op they are hoping all the hormones will be gone by then. I dont know I just dont want to get mine or my OH hopes up!

OP posts:
Em39ma · 25/06/2020 18:36

@Bexsta101 I know what you mean. My Hcg at one point went up after my original miscarriage. We thought we could be pregnant again, but it was just rose again for some reason

Bexsta101 · 25/06/2020 18:46

@Em39ma did they tell you that you will not have that hormone in your system anymore after two weeks as I was given no information after mine at all

I lost a baby at Christmas and was pregnant by the end of January - result is nearly 19 now. So good luck and fingers crossed.

Em39ma · 25/06/2020 18:56

The first time I was told nothing. This time I’m not to try until after my first AF. I seem to have a better team around me this time, they want to do more test, but unfortunately I have to have another miscarriage to be allowed to have them. They have done a couple and are getting a histology on everything they took away.

Bexsta101 · 26/06/2020 04:40

Just done the test girls and it still says 1-2 weeks unfortunately. It's just going to be the hormones still in my system isn't it...I'll call the GP today and try to get a blood test

OP posts:
Bexsta101 · 26/06/2020 05:19

It is weird though cos I do have a lot of symptoms already like sore boobs, feeling nauseous and super bloated but all must just be in my head! Confused

OP posts:
Em39ma · 26/06/2020 05:57

I would definitely give the DR a call.

Bexsta101 · 26/06/2020 07:33

The EPAU just said that if it has been that long after my surgery that I probably am pregnant but I just have to check again next week to see if my levels go up. She said that last week I was probably only 1 weeks pregnant and this week will be two. She said I will just need to wait till next friday again to check...I can't deal with all this waiting!!!!! Angry
