Hi Beena

Were you given a diagnosis of the underlying problem?.

What clomid primarily does is to get the ovaries to work harder. What clomid also does is increase the level of LH being produced; the opk reads the level of LH. Hence these are problematic to use whilst taking clomid.

Clomid can also cause thickening of cervical mucus in the cervix.

Were you advised by the cons to use the OPK?. If you were not told by him to use such a thing I would stop using this forthwith. They are particularly of no use if polcystic ovaries or PCOS are diagnosed.

I would have the day 21 test done as near to the actual day 21 as possible. The day 21 will measure your progesterone level; this will confirm whether ovulation has occured or not.

Before you were given the clomid were your LH and FSH levels checked and compared?. Did you also have an internal ultrasound scan done to see what your ovaries look like?.

You should be monitored every month you are on this particular treatment. Its quite powerful stuff and it does not work for everyone.

Beena · 18/10/2007 14:35

Thanks for your replies.

Attilia - the diagnosis I have is that I don't OV every cycle so have been put on clomid to try and make me OV every month.

I have had day 3 tests done and LH and FSH levels compared and all fine. I have also had a couple of internal scans which show a couple of tiny cysts on one of my ovaries but consultant said nothing to worry about as they were so very minor.

HyCoSy scan to check my tubes was also clear as well which is good news.

Am hoping the clomid will work its wonders. Otherwise it'll be on to month 16 when AF arrives.....

Will stick with day 21 test whic is booked on day 22 then and see what the results are from that. Cons advised to use opks to know when to have day 21 test as cycle vary anything from 25 days to 34 days at the moment.

Hi Beena,

Re your comments:-

"Attilia - the diagnosis I have is that I don't OV every cycle so have been put on clomid to try and make me OV every month.

I'd say to him this is not specific enough - you need a firm diagnosis.

"I have had day 3 tests done and LH and FSH levels compared and all fine".

What were the levels and were these compared?.

"I have also had a couple of internal scans which show a couple of tiny cysts on one of my ovaries but consultant said nothing to worry about as they were so very minor".
Did he mention polycystic ovaries?. I only ask this as the cystic follicles associated with PCO are very small.

"HyCoSy scan to check my tubes was also clear as well which is good news".

Good news indeed

"Am hoping the clomid will work its wonders. Otherwise it'll be on to month 16 when AF arrives"

I hope it works for you.

"Will stick with day 21 test whic is booked on day 22 then and see what the results are from that. Cons advised to use opks to know when to have day 21 test as cycle vary anything from 25 days to 34 days at the moment"

Still cannot quite work out why he wants you to use OPK's due to reasons in my previous postings. OPK's are pretty much useless to use if the menstrual cycle is irregular in nature.

Let us know how you get on, good luck!!

Sunshyne · 18/10/2007 15:51

Attila,

Very interesting feedback thanks for that. I started with Clomid this month and have been using OPK's since day 7 and all readings have been negative. I am on day 13 now and it was starting to really get me down. Being 40 I am worried about not having any eggs left to release. I will stop using the kits today. And keep to my regular BD sessions and fingers crossed.

Thanks again Attila.

tigerschick · 18/10/2007 15:56

Hi

I wish I had thought to check before buying a whole load of OPKs! Ah well.

Hope everyone is well and happy today.

Beena · 18/10/2007 17:12

Thanks girls I'll keep you posted and v useful info Atilia as always so thanks for that. You are a font of knowledge!

Sunshyne · 19/10/2007 16:26

I know what I said I wasn't going to use the OPK's but I had a funny feeling this morning. And I was right i had a very clear positive ovulation test. So here goes.....Stage 2 commences.

Good luck to you all out there I wish you the same.

Thank heaven for Clomid - I thought I was past it

scorpio1 · 20/10/2007 20:24

Beena · 22/10/2007 11:51

Just back from very embarrassing trip to the fertility clinic! Fainted half way through my day 21 blood test! Am not good with blood tests at the best of times but think I must just have had low blood sugar this morning as didn;t have time for brekkie before I went for it. The nurses were so lovely though and rushed in wit hot sugary tea and biscuits!

Get my results tomorrow and really hope they are better than last month before I started the clomid otherwise they are going to double my dose up to 100mg.

Beena · 22/10/2007 13:53

Am now really worried as have just started spotting and its only 7 days since ov. I normally manage 9-10 days before I start spotting but this is the worst ever. Is this another of the many horirbel side effects of clomid does anyone know? Does anyone else get this?

Beena · 22/10/2007 13:54

Forgot to say - have also been getting AF type cramps for the last 2 days as well just can't believe AF has arrived so very early.

tigerschick · 22/10/2007 16:14

Oh Beena. Sounds thoroughly awful.
I'm afraid I don't really know anything about the side effects.
Hopefully your 21 day results will show something helpful ... either way make sure you speak to either your specialist or at least your gp about your concerns.

FrankAwenstein · 26/10/2007 23:25

Just found you all again Fab news nh101 how exciting

How is everyone? Had 30 week scan on Monday all is well, baby growing just right and is most def a little boy.

Sunshyne · 29/10/2007 12:39

Hello everyone

Good luck "Frank"

Beena - How are things going with you now ? I had the same thing with the AF pains on day 14 !! Very strange, I have been feeling a bit sick as well. This clomid is strong stuff. I am due to take my test tomorrow, I really don't know what to expect as my body has been going through a whole load of unusual feelings. I am trying not to get my hopes up.

Wishing you all a very happy haloween just in case I don't get time to chat to you again before Wednesday.

Beena · 29/10/2007 12:51

Hi Sunshyne

good luck with your test - let us know how you get on.

As for me - AF arrived this morning after 7 days of spotting and cramping. Feeling very deflated and sad to be honest as convinced myself the spotting and cramps might have been implantation. Oh well, on to cycle 2. Having follicel tracking scans this month starting on day 10 so hopefully we'll be able to see what's been going on inside, if anything.....

Hope all you other clomidifiers are having mroe luck than me!

Beena

tigerschick · 29/10/2007 14:31

Hi all

Awen - glad to hear that things are progressing nicely - I know I sound like a broken record but I can't believe you are 30 weeks already!!

Sunshyne - Really good luck for tomorrow. Got my fingers crossed for you.

Beena - so sorry about your period showing up. What a bugger! Ah well, at least you know that the Clomid made you ovulate ... that's something I suppose.

Anyone else - hope all is well.

I've just started my third course of progesterone, today. So hopefully my period will show up a week on Thursday and then I can start on the higher dose of Clomid. DH is worried that a higher dose means I'm more likely to react to it - had no real side-effects last 2 times.

FrankAwenstein · 29/10/2007 21:36

fingers crossed for test sun

Tigerschick - I cant quite believe how time has flown either, am 31 weeks today Feel very lucky to be where i am tho. DP & I have been talking about the next one. I know it is early but having problems with PCOS and ttc we are trying to plan a little more. Will def be back on this board then as well. I hope the increased dose does the trick for you guys. Keeping everything crossed.

Beena - sorry for your period turning up. Fingers crossed that next cycle works for you xxx

Moocha · 30/10/2007 21:55

Day 15 no ovulation yet- has anyone else had a delayed ov on clomid??

Moocha · 31/10/2007 09:23

day 16 - no ov yet!!

FrankAwenstein · 31/10/2007 09:38

Moocha - I was told not to use home ov test kits. Especially as they arent reliable with PCOS & clomid.

I ov'd very late in cycle around day 42 iirc, I only suspected because of CM. My tip is to onga bonga everyday and keep going all through cycle unless of course period turns up. Worked for us and now 31 weeks preg.

tigerschick · 31/10/2007 11:35

PMSL at 'onga bonga'!
But it is good advice. I have a friend who conceived her ds on Clomid and she oved on CD9. It is different for everyone. I have got some OPKs and so I'll proabaly continue to use them - but I now know that they are unreliable.
At the end of the fourth paragraph here it say that OPKs can give a false positive if used too early.
One of the replies here says that if the lines are equal then you are ov-ing.
I Googled this - peruse at your leisure

Hope everyone is well and happy

makecakesnotwar · 31/10/2007 15:51

I was told not to use OPKs with PCOS as they weren't accurate. I had to rely on ewcm as temping was completely off with PCOS too. But it worked. 10 weeks and counting.

Hello Awen- can't believe you are 30 weeks already. Too excited!!!!
