Apparently Wales will be lifting lockdown before England, so my clinic may be later. Although they have said they want the post mortem results before treatment anyway, so can't do anything before 3rd July. Would be good to get an appointment booked and ready though.

On another note, has anyone else been advised to ask GP for a high dose folic acid prescription? My clinic has advised that but never heard of that before

lucieloos · 25/04/2020 14:08

@CritterTamer oh that's good! We have had scans etc there before and could be an option for us as previously we have been having treatment abroad which obviously isn't so easy now. I did check their website a little while ago but there was no info on when they might reopen

Rubyroost · 25/04/2020 14:10

Hi @Cleozeta hope you're doing as well as can be. Having high dose folic acid is quite common and is to reduce chromosomal issues I think. My friend took it because spina bufida was in her family. But, I've also read online about it being taken tk reduce things like down syndrome etc, apparently it makes eggs less sticky/more moisturised (for want of a better word) and therefore better for meiosis.

Cleozeta · 25/04/2020 14:19

Interesting. I've been recommended to take it before a donor egg transfer but sounds more useful for own egg

Rubyroost · 25/04/2020 16:45

Oh yeah... Wonder what reason will be then

CritterTamer · 25/04/2020 20:45

@lucieloos no there's nothing on their website yet but I spoke to them yesterday. They said they're either hoping either to be open by mid May, or at the very least have a definite plan for reopening. I can't recommend them highly enough.

lucieloos · 25/04/2020 22:48

@CritterTamer that would be great news! I'm very tempted. The reason I have been going abroad lately is for pgs testing as I just felt more comfortable having any embryos tested before transfer. I hate the 2ww and if it's not going to work anyway I would rather not go through it and just be told but I know crgw don't offer that but I would still be tempted under the current circumstances. I wonder if they would want me to go through all the initial tests again🤔

CritterTamer · 26/04/2020 06:58

@lucieloos I know what you mean about the tww, but i don't set too much store by pgs testing and there are good reasons it's not always offered. I don't know how old you are but I'm assuming 40+ as you're on this thread, and at our age we're unlikely to see perfectly normal embryos - the best we can hope for is some level of mosaicing and those embryos can go either way during the tww anyway. So far every predicting CRGW have made during our treatment has turned out to be correct and the staff (with the exception of one arsehole male doctor who we refuse to see now) are absolutely fantastic.

lucieloos · 26/04/2020 10:58

@CritterTamer that's good to know. I know quite a few of the staff there now as have been going there on and off for the last 5 years and they are really lovely. I'm 40 at the moment but will be 41 in a few months time. I did contact them a while back to enquire about the success rates but it was so low at this age I couldn't really justify the cost but since being on the boards here I've seen quite a few have success so I just don't know now. I would really love another baby.

CritterTamer · 26/04/2020 12:47

@lucieloos What success rate did they give you? When I started with them at age 40 i was told 15-20%. I did have ok AMH at 10.4 though.

lucieloos · 26/04/2020 13:17

@CritterTamer they gave me a live birth rate of 13% but that wasn't personalised just their average success rates for a 40 year old but I just thought it seemed so low to blow £4-5k a time on it. It would be inevitable with those odds we would have to have a few attempts and although I would like another baby more than anything and if it worked I wouldn't care about the money I'm just not sure we can gamble spending so much and coming away with nothing with such poor chances. It's really hard to know what to do. We've just started trying naturally again. DH has low morphology though so I don't expect to have any success with that but thought we may as well do something.

lucieloos · 26/04/2020 13:18

@CritterTamer how many cycles have you done with them? Have you had success?

CritterTamer · 26/04/2020 13:30

@lucieloos are they still offering the multicycle package? It's effectively three cycles for the price of two (no refund if the first or second works though) plus drugs and initial tests obviously. It was very good value compared to some other clinics, and at that time their success rates were some of if the best in the country. In total I would say it cost us around £11k (excludung acupuncture and vitamin supplements, etc.) if you need ICSI I think that would be an extra cost. We had success on our second cycle and have 11mo twins now 😊

CritterTamer · 26/04/2020 13:32

We were due to go back for a FET with them on the week of May 4th, but of course it got cancelled.

lucieloos · 26/04/2020 14:00

@CritterTamer yes I think they still offer the multi package. We would need icsi too though which would mean another £2.5k on top. I dread to think how much we've spent on treatment over the last 5 years. I had a girl at 37 from treatment on nhs and a boy at 39 from a frostie when I was 37. I think I've had around 10 egg collections altogether.

If money were no object I would keep going until it worked but realistically we're probably looking at not far off £15k for another 3 tries 😬 My amh was 7.2 and that was 5 years ago. I know it must have dropped drastically since as even though I only did mini ivf this year which is only meant to get a few good eggs we only had 2 follicles, 2 eggs and 1 to day 5 but abnormal. When I did the exact same protocol at 37 I was getting 8 eggs although still only a max of 2 to day 5.

Russkispy · 29/04/2020 15:57

@Realitysucks massive congratulations! He's gorgeous Smile

AFM, had my 12 weeks scan today. I was extremely nervous. But thankfully everything is going well! Massive relief! I was measured ahead but they stuck to transfer dates as it's more accurate. So I'm 12w4d today.

Booked for 20w in June but will have a private one inbetween.

Hope everyone is doing as ok as can be in these crazy times. I'm rooting for all of you 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Starlight39 · 29/04/2020 17:05

Congratulations @Russkispy!

Hoping all the clinics open back up soon for everyone waiting for IVF etc.

DP and I had decided to not try but not prevent this cycle but he's working away (by himself and still socially distanced) until Friday. I had lots of EWCM this morning, CD13 so earlier than usual for me (and I don't normally get much if any!) and a positive or nearly positive OPK. So I don't think there's any chance of a happy accident unless ov randomly holds off till friday. I'm half disappointed - especially as I am excited about all the EWCM and think it could be a good month to try - but the sensible half of me thinks that maybe it's for the best to wait and not risk another mc before I get tested. It's frustrating though!

Wallaby78 · 29/04/2020 17:07

Great news @Russkispy, so happy for you! x

Thanks everyone for all your messages. It’s been a long road and I’m so grateful for what I have, even if he does keep me up from 4am 🙈🤣🤣

Russkispy · 01/05/2020 08:25

Thank you so much lovely ladies! Last year was truly horrendous! And these 12 weeks weren't easy! Full of worries every time I went for a scan.

I haven't joined birth clubs etc and if it's ok to stick to you lovely lot and support you all along xx

Rubyroost · 01/05/2020 10:20

@Russkispy congratulations, lovely to hear your good news. Its not easy after what we've been through. I really hope the rest of your pregnancy goes smoothly. Mine got a bit rough towards the end and the anxiety really kicked back in, but heres here now and keeping me up all night x
