First GP appointment

We've been TTC since October last year. I'm going to the GP on Monday, what can I expect? Is she likely to do any tests? My cycle is all over the place ranging from 26-38 days. My partner has already been and his GP recommended he takes A-Z vitamins and advised I wait on the outcome of my appointment. I'm worried my GP will just turn me away as it's not quite been 12 months. I am 31, partner will be turning 35 this month. What's everyone else's experience of seeing the GP?

Hey @BewilderedBee that's really quick! Esp when I've heard the waiting lists can be three months plus!

I'm doing well thanks! 5w+1day today so going steady... the exhaustion and nausea has started but I'm not complaining, will take anything it throws at me

X

BewilderedBee · 16/09/2019 19:28

@Coastaldreamer I'm so pleased for you!!! Ha, I'm sure it's also reassuring to have some symptoms. I imagine for those that just get a line, perhaps it wouldn't feel quite real! Although I hope it's all manageable for you and passes soon. I did see your name on the sperm meets egg post that's going. Did you do that last month? I'm tempted to try it. CD9 today and already DTD twice already this month. The thought of it is exhausting but feeling we should at least try it!

Hello

@BewilderedBee that is super quick! I still haven’t had my first blood test results or appointment through for my scan! Can I ask where abouts you live? We are in West Sussex so seems to be a postcode lottery!

@Coastaldreamer great to hear things are progressing well, tiredness & nausea show the hormones are progressing well!

Back from holiday now, it was lovely to get away & actually forget about TTC! I feel more relaxed about it then I have in ages!

BewilderedBee · 16/09/2019 20:47

Glad you enjoyed your holiday @MrsF88, good that you're feeling chilled. I'm actually in Mid Wales, we have no general hospital in the county so my nearest is Shrewsbury in Shropshire. This is the clinic I've been referred to. Onl their website they say welsh patients have to wait longer than English, not sure if that's treatment though - maybe the investigations don't count. How long ago did you have your blood test? My docs take about a week for them to come back. Also made a GP appointment to discuss the results with her, they can't see me til 9th Oct, but can get results over the phone x

Coastaldreamer · 16/09/2019 21:31

@BewilderedBee thank you hun 😘 yeah definitely, although yesterday I had a wobble as kept getting on and off cramps and tested again to make sure it was still positive! Deffo going to have an early scan once we are back from our holiday just for the peace of mind

Yeah so we tried SMEP for the first time, think I felt more relaxed because of my irregular cycles so I was able to track ovulation and then not 'waste' dtd days 😂 although the three days in a row was tiring. I just felt more in control of my cycle which was good and we also used conceive plus lubricant - got it from dr fertility online. Again no idea if these things helped or anything but I'd like to think so
Xx

Coastaldreamer · 16/09/2019 21:32

@MrsF88 it's so great to hear you had a good holiday and are feeling relaxed! Definitely a good approach to the next cycle. Will be keeping my fingers crossed for you guys xx

BewilderedBee · 17/09/2019 13:23

Think we're going to give it a go this month, cycle day 10 today and already DTD 3 times so going to keep going until at very least after a positive ovulation. May try without the lubricant this time and possibly try than as an extra next month if we're unsuccessful!

@BewilderedBee I am day 11 now, according to my Ava bracelet just starting my fertile time as my temps started increasing last night.

Have managed to DTD twice this cycle already. We are planning on DTD tonight & tomorrow, Thursday day off then 3 days in a row to hopefully hit ovulation which Ava is predicting Sunday! Hopefully I do ovulate Sunday as I’m not sure I can keep up that level of DTD beyond that!

Good luck for SMEP!

BewilderedBee · 17/09/2019 19:40

Oooh how long have you had the Ava bracelet for @MrsF88? I had some weird gut feeling to do an OPK today, recently I haven't done them so early as my cycles are usually longer! It's almost positive - gobsmacked as last two months I've had a positive on CD16! So glad I tested, will test again later with my clear blue! Sorry not sure you want all this detail! I just get too drawn in by everything these days! So with the sperms meets egg plan, are you supposed to keep going until end the month?

OP posts:
MrsF88 · 17/09/2019 19:44

@BewilderedBeeI believe from what I’ve read on other threads...SMEP is DTD every other day until you get positive OPK then DTD 3 days in a row, then have a day off then DTD one more time to try & cover all the fertile days!

I’ve had my Ava for just over a month now so this is the first cycle it’s predicted for me! Fingers crossed it works!

MrsF88 · 21/09/2019 08:26

@BewilderedBee how’s your week going?

We have managed to DTD lots this week so hopefully we’ll hit ovulation which according to Ava is tomorrow! Annoying I forgot to put my Ava on last night (after DTD!) but hopefully with tonight’s data it’ll still be accurate!

Actionhasmagic · 21/09/2019 08:46

Hey op - did you stop drinking and change diet to only healthy things? That’s what we both did and then it happened within 2 months of cutting out booze completely. Wishing you all the best

BewilderedBee · 21/09/2019 21:01

@MrsF88 do you just wear it at night? Really well so far, managed to DTD every other day, then tonight have got my positive OPK so going to DTD 3 nights on the trot now hopefully. First month doing SMEP! Week! Kind of excited really as never done it before and so pleased we've got it right so far! Fingers crossed for us both this month! Today is day 14 so positive OPK is sooner than usual for me! X

OP posts:
MrsF88 · 23/09/2019 09:27

@BewilderedBee you wear it just at night. Seems to work well so far & has been good at showing temperature trends etc. I ovulated yesterday apparent, have managed to DTD 5 times over the fertile period so fingers crossed we’ve hit it! Will DTD tonight then revert to every other day!

Good luck with the SMEP!

I’m cycle day 17 now so into the 2 week wait we go!

BewilderedBee · 23/09/2019 13:14

Had my other blood test back (cycle day8), my LH level is high. Nurse gave the results verbally on the phone. These were my results -

LH - 20.3. They said 14 is the top end of normal

Testosterone 0.7

TSH 2.14

Prolactin 389. (Apparently should be 100-500)

Follicle FSH 9

No idea what they mean but all are apparently normal apart from the LH, which from a quick google could indicate problem with ovaries / PCOS.

Bit gutted. Have felt very fragile yesterday and today. Doing SMEP for first time this month so think I've got higher expectations but just feeling a bit desperate by now.

Just on my lunch time and want to go home and curl in a ball!

OP posts:
MrsF88 · 23/09/2019 13:53

@BewilderedBee sending a virtual hug.

Try to feel positive, if it is PCOS/ovulation related there are things they can do to support that & improve chances so the knowledge could be in your favour too.

Has the nurse suggested any next steps or are you just waiting for your appointment?

BewilderedBee · 23/09/2019 17:20

Thanks @MrsF88 I'm sure it will be fine. Just a bit of a reality check and stunned me a bit. The nurse just said she doesn't understand any of the results and said she can read them out to me but can't explain them. So I just noted them down and looked to google and other people's posts. I'm seeing the GP to discuss the results on the 9th so hopefully then I'll find out a bit more. Glad I've got the results to take to my fertility appointment too, so I can get their expertise on them too.

OP posts:
MrsF88 · 23/09/2019 18:39

@BewilderedBee The 9th isn’t too far away & You've got your positive OPK’s so know something is happening! Try not to let it play on your mind!

MrsF88 · 26/09/2019 07:33

@BewilderedBee I hope you’re feeling OK & having a good week x

BewilderedBee · 26/09/2019 08:10

Thanks @MrsF88 I am! Completely over my bloods on Monday, not too worried now! I've ovulated earlier this month just positive that I'll get the cycle over with quicker and if it's a BFN I've got our GP and fertility appointment in the next cycle which is still progress! How are you doing? We've just finished SMEP!

OP posts:
BewilderedBee · 28/09/2019 17:09

Hope you're having a good weekend @MrsF88! When are you going to test? I'm considering testing on Monday - I'll be 8dpo! Will try and hold longer if I can!!

OP posts:
MrsF88 · 28/09/2019 18:38

@Bewilderedbee sorry I didn’t reply to your first message! Been one of those weeks!! How’s your week been?

I’ve had an up & down week - had an emotional day when I was just fed up with the whole TTC thing! Had just had enough! But am feeling better over the last few days, hubby took me out for a lovely date night as a surprise which really made me remember how happy we are & that we shouldn’t be letting the pressures of TTC distract us from that.

I’m not going to test until after next weekend if AF hasn’t arrived! I’m not normally an early tester. My period is due next Sunday & I have a baby shower that I’m joint hosting that day :-( timed that one very badly!!

I’m feeling relaxed at the moment, we DTD a lot at the right time so have given it our best shot this month! Fingers crossed it worked! How are you feeling?

BewilderedBee · 30/09/2019 10:37

@MrsF88 this TTC malarkey is such a roller coaster isn't it! So lovey to hear of your date night. It's important to remember how lucky we are to be in happy relationships.

To be fair I had a really good week. Managed to keep myself distracted. On Friday I visited a friend who told me she's recently had a miscarriage. Put things in to perspective a little - she took 14 months to conceive her first, and then this happened with her second.

Then sat had news of a pregnancy - they got married in August and already must have had their 12 week scan. Ive heard of about 5 newlyweds get pregnant recently. Even my other half if saying to me, can you stop telling me everyone's pregnant. It's even getting to him and he's so laid back.

Yesterday had our nephews birthday party - babies and toddlers everywhere! Parents comparing parenting stories and I had little to contribute to the conversations. Then last night I couldn't sleep til half 1, today is 8dpo, and I'm on a day off, I think i was just so overly anxious about testing or not. I've held out. FMU is long gone and working rest the week so hopefully won't feel the urge to test until the weekend. Not sure I can make it that long tho!

SIL is likely to be induced soon. So got that news coming.

Don't envy you with the baby shower! This TTC brings out a horrible side in me. Although I genuinely am happy for others, just struggle with my feelings about our own TTC journey! X

OP posts:
MrsF88 · 30/09/2019 14:32

@BewilderedBee I completely understand what you mean, I am happy for other people but also have that raw emotion that makes me want to stamp my feet & say it’s just not fair, I want that too!

I’ve had a few friend recently pregnant first month of trying or accidental, just want to know what I’m doing wrong!

Sorry you didn’t sleep well but well done for holding off testing! Hope you have a great day off!

MrsF88 · 30/09/2019 14:47

I also finally got through to the surgery about my blood test results, all normal apparently so one thing off the list. Waiting for my scan now x
