First GP appointment

We've been TTC since October last year. I'm going to the GP on Monday, what can I expect? Is she likely to do any tests? My cycle is all over the place ranging from 26-38 days. My partner has already been and his GP recommended he takes A-Z vitamins and advised I wait on the outcome of my appointment. I'm worried my GP will just turn me away as it's not quite been 12 months. I am 31, partner will be turning 35 this month. What's everyone else's experience of seeing the GP?

@BewilderedBee mine told me to do Day 21 and day 2-4 to check I'm ovulating. Must be the same with what they checking for you?

Coastaldreamer · 21/08/2019 21:17

@MrsF88 we haven't tried them properly before. I ordered a bunch months ago and tried it once or twice on odd days but not consistently.

I kind of figure every other day between day 10-22 would be enough to cover the fertile period generally and that's what we did last month but it didn't work so that's why I thought let's change it up this month. Gonna save my conceive plus for the surge days too

MrsF88 · 21/08/2019 21:22

@BewilderedBee I’ve only been referred for day 21 bloods, dr said it’s to check for Progesterone levels to see if you’ve definitely ovulated.

BewilderedBee · 22/08/2019 19:08

@Coastaldreamer im sure my GP said day 8 but really doubting myself now. Will have to check when I go in for the day 21 test! My day 21 test is going to be done on day 26, but it falls on a Sunday so opting for a day later. Hope the result will be ok. Got my positive opk today which is the same as last month so think this one will be a 33 day cycle!

OP posts:
Coastaldreamer · 22/08/2019 21:29

@BewilderedBee maybe they're testing it a different way for you. Ooh nice, so dtd today?

I already have EWCM which is so early but no where near a positive opk so at least I know it's on it's way!

showmethegin · 22/08/2019 21:44

Hi ladies, can I join? Been ttc for a year, went for our first gp appt 6 weeks ago. I've suffered for years with excruciating periods so just feel it must be something to do with that. Had the hormone 21 day tests, DP had his blood tests all came back normal. Have appt at the hospital, Mine on 10 October and his sperm analysis on 23rd.

Never thought it would come to this! Feel broken even though I know that's not necessarily the case!

MrsF88 · 23/08/2019 08:53

@showmethegin it’s hard isn’t it, I’m sure none of us expected to be in the place! I always think to myself why didn’t we start earlier?

Has everyone been referred straight to the hospital? We have to go back to the GP after we have bloods/scan/sperm analysis? The GP we saw the other day was so lovely so I’m going to try & book her again when we go.

Hope everyone has nice plans for the bank holiday weekend!

MrsF88 · 23/08/2019 08:59

@BewilderedBee that’s good with the OPK that it seems a regular cycle again! Have you managed to DTD lots this week?

@Coastaldreamer I always track my EWCM too as my way of sensing when my fertile time is, normally get about 4 days worth before ovulation.

Has anyone tried Preseed or Conceive Plus? We tried Preseed before but need to buy some more so wasn’t sure if anyone had compared them?

Coastaldreamer · 23/08/2019 09:29

@MrsF88 it's good, gives me a sense of relief that what the surgery receptionist told me is right and I do ovulate

Yes we are trying conceive plus this month! First time though and haven't tried preseed yet. Will see how this one goes and let you know ?

showmethegin · 23/08/2019 11:40

@MrsF88 we had our first appt to discuss, then had to go back for our bloods then went back to the gp a third time to discuss the results. (Was totally pointless appointment to be honest as we'd already phoned the surgery and had our results over the phone!)

At that third appt they told us we were referred to hospital, then we had to wait for the letter with the link to book our hospital appointments online.

I don't know whether it was a bit different for us because I had a scan about a year ago to try and rule out endo (which, again was inconclusive!!)

BewilderedBee · 23/08/2019 16:48

@MrsF88 I was away this week, good job I was home for my positive opk, so only DTD last night and will again tonight! Hopefully got it covered then! Last month we did all my fertile week - 4 nights on the trot and still didn't end up with a BFP so not too discouraged that I've missed most it this time! In response to your other questions, my GP has referred us, but also need bloods done. GP doesn't do sperm analysis with us so I'm not sure if this is why it's referred on at this stage! But GP is doing my bloods and the clinic is sorting my husbands tests.

MrsF88 · 28/08/2019 09:34

Hope everyone is having a good week, I am glad it’s cooler today!
I’ve had my blood tests today, the doctor ordered an additional one too since I saw her last week (not sure what for, but guess i’ll Find out when we get the results!) and hubby had his letter yesterday about his sperm analysis so is phoning to book his appointment today! So progress is being made!

Coastaldreamer · 29/08/2019 14:47

@MrsF88 glad to hear progress is being made!! Hope you're feeling ok about it all!

So DH semen analysis came back... he has marginally low motility but the dr has said it's like 1% so nothing to worry about and concentration and morphology are all very good! So it's a relief with that

I'm going on the 6th to follow up on my bits and see what next steps are...

For this cycle we tried SMEP so hoping for a BFP on 9th-ish x

MrsF88 · 29/08/2019 15:09

@Coastaldreamer Good that you’ve had an OK result on the SA analysis front, must be a relief.

SMEP - hard core well done, fingers crossed for a positive result! We always try to DTD lots during the fertile time but we struggle with everyday!

Hubby phoned to book his SA appointment - the earliest appointment they have is February! We’re going to discuss tonight researching a private analysis? Have no idea how much that might cost, but not sure I want to wait until February for an initial check!

Coastaldreamer · 29/08/2019 15:30

@MrsF88 major relief... although now I just think I might be the one with the issue but who knows 🤷🏽‍♀️

Oh wow that's such a long time! Are there any other local hospitals you could try ? Really annoying that different trusts have different timings on all of this stuff. Maybe private is the way to go.. I know first hand that the worrying eats away at you so at least you'll know what the issue is/ no issue might be!

X

BewilderedBee · 30/08/2019 10:07

Good to hear things are progressing for you both @Coastaldreamer @MrsF88 ! I didn't anticipate any wait with these kind of initial tests. My husbands doctor have been a bit of a nightmare and only confirmed yesterday they were referring him on for SA. Hope there won't be a delay on it being done. Hate reading about the post code lottery of it all with these kind of things - it's so unfair for those who have to wait!! Fortunately for us if there is a bit of a wait, we do have some funds to pay for some things privately!

OP posts:
BewilderedBee · 30/08/2019 10:10

@Coastaldreamer we have similar cycles! Eek, think I'm 8dpo today but based on my last cycle, with ovulation last month matching the timing of this one I'll have a long luteal phase and be due on 9th sept. My phone broke this week and haven't been able to use the apps etc - it really helped speed up the start of my two week wait!!

OP posts:
Coastaldreamer · 30/08/2019 10:30

@BewilderedBee I know - postcode lottery is such an unfair way to allocate how and when people get appointments!!

Eeek so we should be testing around the same time but I'm only 4DPO :/

will you test early?

BewilderedBee · 30/08/2019 11:37

@Coastaldreamer I think il try and wait it out, but I always say that! August has been a good month for distractions, it's our 1st wedding anniversary this weekend and the following weekend were away for the night so hoping that will get me through from testing early. Now it's approaching 12 months I am managing to go longer without testing. Think it's cos my conscience is telling me there's a problem.

OP posts:
MrsF88 · 30/08/2019 11:48

@BewilderedBee @Coastaldreamer I’m also similar! Somewhere around 8DPO today based on my historic data & observing CM. Period due next Thursday 5th! Normally I’m not usually an early tester because I hate the disappointment but I’m off on holiday on that day so might just so I know re alcohol consumption!

The postcode lottery does seem unfair & I was definitely a bit jealous last night when I know your appointments have come through much quicker! Hubby & I are going to enjoy our holiday & then decide what we do next with regards to testing. We could afford to have some testing private but would obviously prefer not to. We think we’ll wait until we have all my results before we decide.

BewilderedBee · 30/08/2019 13:59

@MrsF88 @Coastaldreamer saying that, I'm going to watch a footie match on the Friday (6th) so should probably test before that as will be drink involved. However, if I do have BFP it will be impossible to disguise the fact I'm pregnant by not drinking! So part of me feels like testing after that. Is that an awful mindset to have? Won't drink loads as I'm driving the next morning but there will def be drink involved!

OP posts:
Coastaldreamer · 30/08/2019 15:17

@BewilderedBee hmm you could say you're on antibiotics if you do get your BFP! Or just have a few drinks.

I always stress about having a drink even though I rarely drink but I guess they say "drink till it's pink"

I feel like the days in the TWW are going soooo slow! 😬

MrsF88 · 30/08/2019 15:48

I don’t drink a lot but do appreciate a nice wine so we have got a lot of nice stuff ordered ready for our hols. Even if I do get my BFP I might still allow myself a very small taste of the very nice champagne we have waiting!

The couple we are going away with are having a baby in February, when I found out a few weeks ago I was heartbroken about the thought of going away with them but I’ve accepted it now & just hope it’s contagious 🙈

BewilderedBee · 02/09/2019 15:35

I caved and did a test this morning (10dpo), BFN! Cross with myself now for bothering! It was our 1st wedding anniversary yesterday so think I thought it might bring some luck. Had a lovely weekend but struggling today, I think it's because I always thought we'd have a baby on the way by now, it's hit home that we've reached that 1 year landmark. I think our celebrations over the weekend kept me distracted and today i feel really down in the dumps. Just been for my day 21 blood test. Phoned the fertility clinic and they haven't received my referral yet, said it can take 2 weeks to show up on the system. They said once it's received I can expect first appointment 3 weeks after, so can't see us being seen until October!

OP posts:
MrsF88 · 02/09/2019 17:42

@BewilderedBee sorry about your BFN! It’s so hard isn’t it when you reach different milestones when in your head you thought you’d be pregnant by now! Glad you had a good wedding anniversary though, did you do anything to celebrate?

At least the ball is rolling on the tests now for you, try & take encouragement from that!
