First GP appointment

We've been TTC since October last year. I'm going to the GP on Monday, what can I expect? Is she likely to do any tests? My cycle is all over the place ranging from 26-38 days. My partner has already been and his GP recommended he takes A-Z vitamins and advised I wait on the outcome of my appointment. I'm worried my GP will just turn me away as it's not quite been 12 months. I am 31, partner will be turning 35 this month. What's everyone else's experience of seeing the GP?

@MrsF88 we did, had an overnight stay in a lovely hotel, spa day the next morning and fish and chips by the sea before home! Was lovely.

Yeah it's defo a good thing, and October isn't long at all to wait! I was able to check again when I needed my next test done and it definitely is day 8. On the fertility clinic website, it says it's to explain why the cycle is irregular. I think it will be another 2 weeks until I have that one (roughly)!

@BewilderedBee sorry to hear about the BFN hun. Hope you're ok!

You're right Oct isn't far at all and at least the ball is rolling on that front :)

Your weekend away sounded lovely 😊

I totally know what you mean on timelines. We will be married two years next month and in my head I was due to give birth this month as I had wanted to be pregnant in Jan when we started... now I realise how naive I was!

MrsF88 · 03/09/2019 08:27

@BewilderedBee your weekend away sounds lovely!

We are lucky to live quite close to the sea & although we rarely go in the summer - way too busy - in the autumn & winter it is lovely to wrap up & walk along the beach. Definitely relaxes me & helps blow away those cobwebs!

@Coastaldreamer I know exactly what you mean...I at least expected to be pregnant by now if not already had our baby - we started trying in June 2018 I was expecting to be pregnant by Christmas 2018 at the latest, and now another summer has gone.

I am going to pick up a FRER today to take first thing tomorrow before we head off on holiday. As we’re away with a pregnant friend, I feel I am better off knowing from POAS in my own home rather than period tuning up with her in the next room. Gives me chance to manage my emotions!

Coastaldreamer · 03/09/2019 09:04

@MrsF88 it truly sucks :(

Let us know how you get on with the FRER x

MrsF88 · 03/09/2019 14:11

So I’ve had some acupuncture sessions recently to help with TTC & also to try and help me relax about it all a bit more. Had a session today & the acupuncturist has basically told me my period is going to start soon from taking my pulse & looking at my ears?!

Unfortunately I’d already been to Boots to pick up the FRER’s so do I still do one?! I feel like I want to but also feel like I’m peeing on a £5 note 🙈 oh they joys of the craziness that surrounds TTCing

Please tell me I’m not the only one this crazy?!

MrsF88 · 03/09/2019 14:54

Update. Have POAS - negative as expected.

Coastaldreamer · 03/09/2019 15:50

Oh @MrsF88 sorry to hear that :(

How is the acupuncture going for you? I was literally talking to DH about it today saying I should start as it will help me to relax and destress... naturally he is skeptical but I've only heard good things about it

MrsF88 · 03/09/2019 15:58

@Coastaldreamer I started the acupuncture beginning of August & it’s definitely helping me to relax - today aside...I wasn’t prepared mentally for the not pregnant bit so that completely occupied my mind during my session! At least next month I’ll be prepared it she says that!

All other sessions have helped me relax & the acupuncturists I’m seeing has a history of helping with fertility issues so I don’t think it’s hindering!

Tried to phone the GP re my blood test results but can’t get through so will wait now until after my holiday!

BewilderedBee · 03/09/2019 19:40

Thank you both for your lovely comments @Coastaldreamer @MrsF88 and sorry to hear about your BFN. I have debated having acupuncture myself but would need to travel approx 60 miles (return journey) and to be honest, I'm nor sure if I have enough confidence in it to invest time and money in travelling that sort of distance.

I've also really struggled the last fortnight, my sister in law is due in October, she's having a diabetic pregnancy and was completely gutted and upset about it. Did my best to empathise but all the while I was thinking - I'd give anything to be in her situation! I also feel all my in-laws ever talk about is this baby arriving. And it will be the same once it has arrived. I'm happy for them, but at the same time, it's horrible coming across it in conversation all the time.

MrsF88 · 03/09/2019 19:54

@BewilderedBee the acupuncture is helping me relax but it does sound like an epic journey for you so might erode the relaxation!

With regards to your sister in law, can you remove yourself slightly so you don’t have to listen to it all the time? Maybe just get really busy so you don’t have to listen to the chat all the time? Not in a horrible way but to protect yourself as it’s so hard to hear sometimes about everyone else’s pregnancies. Someone I work with everyday is 20 weeks now (unplanned) and I hear so much about how difficult it is / expensive / bad timing & to be honest I just want to throw something at her sometimes. Easier to take yourself away!

Coastaldreamer · 05/09/2019 15:50

@MrsF88 @BewilderedBee @Blossomingflower94

I'm thinking whether to test tomorrow morning, I will be 11 DPO but I have another GP appointment tomorrow morning to discuss the next steps for us after I was checked for ovulation etc.

Wondering whether I should test before the appointment?

What do you ladies think ? Or is it too early and I should just wait... the original plan was to test on sat morning

BewilderedBee · 05/09/2019 17:05

@Coastaldreamer ahh, I don't know! If I were you I probably wouldn't, if you get a BFN it will just give you a negative mood before the appointment. I try and keep positive thinking about appointments etc. But up to you. I can't talk at all and have no will power. Some days I have no intention of testing then I just test on impulse. Think I'll test tomorrow, feel AF is coming but will be drinking tomorrow night so would rather know for sure! I'm 13dpo today.

Coastaldreamer · 06/09/2019 09:17

@BewilderedBee 😬 I ended up caving and testing this morning as I wanted to go with full information to the GP. I saw a faint line and took it to him and he saw it too... but I'm still only 11 DPO so he said wait and see what happens

Just before that he said he was going to refer us to the fertility clinic but now he wants to wait

Keeping everything crossed 🤞🏼

Wow @Coastaldreamer that is exciting! Fingers crossed! Keep us updated!

BewilderedBee · 06/09/2019 10:56

Omg @Coastaldreamer !!! That's looking good. BFN for me this morning. Not overly disappointed, being positive that I can drink today and enjoy with some friends! Not that I couldn't if I wasn't drinking but you know what I mean!! X

OP posts:
Coastaldreamer · 06/09/2019 11:01

Thanks ladies. Being very cautious right now

@BewilderedBee sorry on the BFN. I know what you mean xx I hope also the SIL situation gets better x

BewilderedBee · 08/09/2019 10:05

@Coastaldreamer have you tested again since to see if the line is getting darker? Situation with SIL will stay the same, they practically live next door and as she's been quite unwell through the pregnancy, awful morning sickness and now diabetes, it's just made more for people to talk about! Lol, I am ok about it, the whole thing is fine, but sometimes I feel a bit sensitive and when people are saying how awful it is for her, I just want to say I'd put up with it all right now if it meant getting a baby! Lol. AF still hasn't arrived for me. I'm 16dpo according to the positive ovulation test I got! CD33 now and it's looking good in terms my day 21 test being carried out somewhere near right! Unless I go on a lot longer!!

OP posts:
Coastaldreamer · 08/09/2019 10:37

@BewilderedBee hey. Yeah I tested again this morning with FMU. Slowly finally believing it as the lines are getting a lot darker. But still being cautious!

Attached was yesterday morning at the top and bottom was this morning so I think I originally miscalculated my DPO. I'm still on CD28 so praying like mad that it sticks 💜

Ahhh that sucks with the SIL. I totally know what you mean though, like you'd take anything at this point just to know that you're actually having a baby!
So if you're 16DPO and no AF, did you try test again since Friday ? Xx

First GP appointment
BewilderedBee · 08/09/2019 10:49

@Coastaldreamer it's looking good!! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. How long is it you've been trying? I know you said you went to the GP after 6 months.

A minute after I posted this morning I popped to the loo and AF has arrived! It means my day 21 test was done 2 days too late (on day 23). Although hoping as I have a long luteal phase, it may just be ok. Going to ring for my result tomorrow and book in for my day 8 test. Frustrating that my day 8 test now falls on a Sunday will fall a day late as it will be Monday getting bloods done. Argh! Neither will really be done on the right days!!

I'm starting to suspect my cycles might be ok, although they vary in length, I almost always get a positive OPK, and then my period is kind of predictable when calculating my AF from the positive OPK date. But whilst I say that I'm very convinced that something is wrong as I know we are always timing sex right around the positive OPK!

OP posts:
Coastaldreamer · 08/09/2019 11:12

@BewilderedBee thank you hun! We've been trying since January... so weird what the doctor said actually, that the number of people who know they are getting referred fall pregnant before their first appointment because they feel it's out of their hands. So have faith in that too!

That's annoying about the bloods on the wrong day!! With the OPKs are are you testing afterwards too? Apparently sometimes with the positive it can be your body gearing up for ovulation but then it doesn't happen and your body tries again

and sorry to hear about AF!
😘

MrsF88 · 08/09/2019 20:17

@BewilderedBee my AF arrived yesterday too so we’re pretty equal on cycles!

@Coastaldreamer those lines are definitely getting darker!

We are away now on holiday which is lovely & we’re trying to relax & not think about TTC too much. Hoping when we get back I’ll have an appointment for my scan I’m being referred for!

Going to go offline now until we’re home but I’ll check in when we’re back! Have a great week everyone!

BewilderedBee · 09/09/2019 12:34

have a lovely time @MrsF88, it is nice to get a break from these boards, they're amazing support but sometimes a break is good! Our cycles are very similar.

I was taking them after aswell @Coastaldreamer but thought it was a waste of money. Recent months I've stopped the min I've got a positive.

Got my bloods back this morning. Result was progesterone levels of 30.09 which apparently confirms ovulation. But he said 30 down to 15 is uncertain. Slightly concerned I'm on the cusp! But the test was on CD23 in the end so hoping it was lower because of this!

OP posts:
Coastaldreamer · 09/09/2019 13:13

@BewilderedBee oh ok, yeah I was the same. Did it for about a day after then stopped.

I think as it was a bit later in terms of the bloods you're right...

If you're ovulating that's deffo good sign. Fingers crossed the other bloods tell you more

Keep us updated. Still here if and when you wanna chat :) x

BewilderedBee · 16/09/2019 18:15

Hi all, bit of an update today. We've got an appointment at the fertility clinic on 16th October. Had my other blood test today aswell so will get those results soon! How are you getting on @Coastaldreamer?
