hello,
am new to this board, am confused over all the acronyms.
Bascially am trying to concieve baby no.2 , no problems last time. This time trying for 3 months , no success yet. I have cycle is a bit irregular, every 24- 30 days. I have bought persona ovulation test - tested today ( 9 days after last period) The lines were different shades. So not about to ovualte. Though had a clear/slightly yellowish muscos discharge this morning. WHat should i be looking for in discharge , I thought thick white meant about to ovulate. Any advice appreciated

Cobweb · 26/08/2004 19:29

Twiga there are 15 children coming to the party, but its at a leisure centre so at least I don't have to do much LOL

I think I will wait and see what happens over the weekend and test on Monday if nothing has happened by then.

Welcome Cori, lots of advice given on here and some lovely people to chat and share your stresses and worries with. I know that just lately I have been all over the place but there is always someone with a kind word or advice that means the world to the other person sitting in front of the screen.

Cobweb xxx

Twiga · 26/08/2004 19:55

Hi Cori, welcome to this thread - don't be put off by all the acronyms, there's a list of the main ones at the top of the screen under the useful stuff list. Ones that aren't on there and ones that turn up on a reg basis on here are:
CM - cervical mucus
CD - refers to cycle day (not compact disc ), count day one of period as CD1.
DPO - days post ovulation, ie CD after ovulation and before AF
AF - Auntie Flo/period
TTC - trying to conceive
BD - baby dancing (sex)
O or Ov - short for ovulation
DS,DD,DP,DH etc - these all stand for various relatives, dear daughter, dear son/sister, dear partner, dear husband etc
That should be enough to get you started. Round about/at ov, cm should be clearish and the consistency of raw egg white, should also be kinda stretchy. As cobweb says there's always someone with a kind word/answer kicking about and you'll certainly get bags of support on here. Ask/talk about anything you want - nothings too silly! Hope you don't have to wait long for baby no2.

cori · 26/08/2004 20:17

Thanks Twiga
so am CD 9
had a small clearish discharge ( egg white consistency ) this morning, but persona test was not positive. What do you think?

Twiga · 26/08/2004 22:02

Cori, not sure to be honest, i think that ovulation normally works out at 12-14 before af due. Like everything ovulation I would think varies as much as individual cycles do and it may be possible to ovulate early/late. I'm not one of these folks who counts things too closely or uses ovulation tests - have been tracking my dates using the ovulation calculator on www.babycentre.co.uk it's under interactive tools - it's based on how many days your normal cycle is, and the date of your last af - it works out fertile days for the month and corresponding due dates if you were to fall pregnant. It can't be too far out - I fell pg 2nd month trying with only that as input re: my cycle - had mc unfortunately, so now trying again. Hope this helps.
Ideas anyone?

Fonzie · 27/08/2004 08:44

Morning All. Cobweb, I had same discharge and AF was due on Wednesday just past. I read in TCOYF that it can be something to do with extra oestogen (don't quote me as I always get stuff like this mixed up) but when my SIL was pregnant with no2 last year she mentioned the discharge too so I'm not sure. Have decided not to test yet and give nature a chance to show me if it's fooling around. Off to Glasgow tomorrow for some serious retail therapy and a break from DH and DS.
Twiga, I know exactly what you mean about lack of affordable flights from Aberdeen. DH and I are trying to get some quality time together and have been looking for cheapy flights from here but nothing so far. Although Dublin is looking good, especially as I'm 30 at the beginning of Nov. We'll just have to wait and see!

Azure · 27/08/2004 09:04

Cori, with Persona you might not get an "O" for ovulation the first month of trying - it doesn't mean you haven't ovulated, just that Persona is trying to work out your cycle. Two lines on the stick indicate ovulation.

Twiga · 27/08/2004 09:20

Good morning! Happy Birthday to Cobweb's DS !
Fonzie, if Dublin's the destination then Aberdeen's as cheap as anywhere with easyjet - we booked our flights last night to Belfast, have ended up going from Glasgow - 65.96 return for two of us, my point being it may just be worth some petrol cost to get to there or Edinburgh for extra routes to other places. Your birthday sounds like the ideal excuse to get away. Enjoy your shopping trip tomorrow.

hester · 27/08/2004 09:21

Cori, I think the most likely explanation is that you have entered your fertile phase but not yet ovulated. Most women get fertile mucus before they ovulate. You'll probably find you get the O symbol on your Persona over the next 2-3 days. It's worth starting BDing from when you start getting CM. If you haven't started seducing yet, start now!

Hi Pamina3, sorry to hear about af , glad you're able to see positives too, although I know it doesn't help. +++++++ sending you lots of baby dust for this coming month !

Piffleoffagus · 27/08/2004 09:40

Sorry to hear about those AF's... it's a horrid time.
This whole Cm thing is pretty hard to assess if you ummme.. when you're bonking all the time, ummm yuk...
according to babycentre ov calc today is the start of my fertile time...
So here goes!!!

sweetheart · 27/08/2004 09:50

Cori, welcome to MN - I am similar to you in that I had no problems conceiving dd but No 2 is proving to be elusive!!! Do u think this means when we do eventually have No 2 that it's going to be a nightmare child!?!?! I hope not

Pamina3 - so sorry about AF - still it's brilliant that you are still feeling positive, what a great roll model you are for everyone on this thread.

Cobweb - fingers crossed for you!!! Hopefully this will be your month

Cyndii · 27/08/2004 10:14

Gosh I had loads to read up since yesterday....

Cobweb ~ good luck with af hopefully it will be a positive result for you but your signs seem very positive as long as the mucus is not brownish in colour your on the right track!!

Twiga ~ another lady married to a lovely Irish man!! Love to met up but to be honest girls I've never been to Belfast ~ isn't that terrible but I grew up when everyday on our television screens it was nothing but murders etc so I have to be honest it's kept me away but I would love to travel up. Down here luckily there would not be much distinguishes made on a name ~ thankfully ~ it's not the same as some places up north; both sides live in harmony thank God. Makes no difference what side your from ~ no one cares!

Cori ~ welcome!! *** here’s some baby dust

pamina3 ~ sorry about af but keep positive!!

I'm off to see Madge this weekend in Slane and boy am I looking forward to that!!! Should be a great concert!!

Good luck to anyone who is due their af and again loads and loads of baby dust to all of us!!!

Cyn
P.S. Twiga ~ no matter how tired you are you just have to do the bd!!! Has to be done!!!!!

runtus · 27/08/2004 14:58

Oh my god - I';ve been on holiday for a week and I feel like I've been away forever! I just tried to read over some of the messages posted since I went away last Thursday and I had to give up, just couldn't take it all in......blimey! I'm a bit late I know but hello to all the new people out there and good luck.

Egypt was lovely (if a bit too hot!) and ust the break we needed. Loads of lying in the sun trying not to think about whether I am pg or not.....I didn't do very well there I have to admit. No af while we were away, which makes today day32 of my cycle - last month was 30, one previous to that was 38. So obviously being the impatient obsessive I am I just had to go and buy a test.got a BFN for my efforts

Gutted now to be honest, it's almost worse getting a bfn after I've been so good and waited for ages. Glad I did wait cos it didn't ruin the holiday but I'd managed to build it up in my mind after the time away from home IYKWIM?

Oh well, my best mates wedding is on Sunday so I guess at least I can be a drunk bridesmaid rather than a pregnany one now!

Mirage · 27/08/2004 21:50

Well,no luck here this month, but I have had a 28 day cycle for the 1st time in years.Hopefully this is a good sign.

Good luck to all those waiting for AF/to test.

Cobweb · 28/08/2004 07:33

Morning, thank you for your messages yesterday. DS had a lovely birthday, despite the rain and its his party today, hence being up so early.

I think it's a BFN for me. I did a test yesterday lunchtime and it was a BFN and then when we were out I had some spotting and stomach cramps. So I am waiting for the AF to happen any time now

Good to have you back Runtus

Cobweb · 28/08/2004 11:39

Just been to the loo and AF has arrived

Oh well, at least I am so busy later with party and I have a box of wine on the fridge.

Cheers girls, here's to a very drunken night

Hi all, been very busy and havent checked in for a little. gee its hard to keep up with this thread. CD22 think i ov on cd9. wasn't meant to be ttc this month for a couple of reasons dh 30th b'day on the 13th sept would like to have a few drinks and my best friends hens night on the 25th would like to have a big one and all that lead up to af arriving when you start analising every body function clinging on to the hope of being pg. well here i go.....have sore and bigger boobs, woke up a few nights ago and felt i needed to be sick and....i think i had the implantation bleeding today???? not quite sure though as i cant remember having it with ds. had a slight brownish spotting in my nickers and a little cramping. What do you girls think. iam not due until next friday iam usually a 27-28 day cycle. I dont know what to think i do usually have spotting but it never happens this early in my cycle and only happens in the morning not late in the afternoon. HELP need someone to clear my mind very confussed.

Tania2 · 28/08/2004 12:23

Sorry to hear that cobweb

Cobweb · 28/08/2004 12:32

Tania 2, I don't know what to think hun, could be implantation bleeding.

First response do a test that you can do a days before your period is due, maybe you could try it to ease your mind.

Thanks for your kind words xxx

Tania2 · 28/08/2004 12:38

Thanks for your response cobweb. i think i will be strong and wait and see if AF arrives on time. Dont really want to know yet too early makes it such a long wait until the first 12 weeks are up that you feel alittle more confident that something wont happen. IYKWIM didnt find out with ds until i was 7 weeks and he wasnt planed thats why i feel alittle bit new at this ttc stuff and really cant remember what i felt like B4 af was due.

bluestar · 28/08/2004 15:51

Cobweb, sorry af arrived . I am in fertile time (according to dates) but have been very lapse in the bd department. Trying to recover from hangover today to start practicing tonight!! Really not focused on this bd stuff this cycle, makes a change, and you can bet that I will get pg when I have no job and face the prospect of telling a new employer, oh by the way I'm pregnant and yes I've only been here a week or soemthing like that!! Still haven't managed so far so who knows!

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE

cori · 28/08/2004 20:49

I have another friend who took at least 6 months to concieve baby no.2 , and thats with v.active BD. The baby while very sweet, was the clingiest child ever seen.
Maybe its because I am a couple of years older.
The persona test stick is still not showing two matching lines. am now CD11, dont know what to think. WIll keep testing though, this is getting expensive.
Does CM indicate that you are about to ovulate or that you are currently ovating.?
What are the other signs of ovulation.
