Also the big downer is money, we bring a good amount in but a lot goes out, debt and stuff, is there anybody out there that has four children and no money if so am i doing the right thing and will i cope????.

Well, once a woman hits that "magic" 35 and gets pg a lot of the times more antenatal tests seem to be pushed in order to ensure that teh Baby is right...! Like I said though
I had ms at 32 and turned 34y. 8 days before ys was born....
oh and that was meant to say there seemed to be an increased risk of possible problems...which doesn't mean that this necessarily has to happen...so many other things that a healthy baby depends on anyway.

Good point TeeCee. Sorry, didn't read the OP properly. Hope someone can cast light on the cost of a 4th baby for you.

monkeymonkeymoomoo · 06/02/2007 14:21

Biglips · 06/02/2007 17:02

mosschops30 · 06/02/2007 17:04

jaynel some days you can upset people on mumsnet just by breathing so dont worry about it. They'll all love you tomorrow

FWIW I had dd at 20, then didnt have ds til I was 30. I will got for number 3 in about 2 years time so will be the ripe old age of 34 .

tinytotmummy · 06/02/2007 17:16

My SIL has four DCs, 17,14,13 and 4. She had the last one when she was 31. They don't have very much money, she doesn't work and he doesn't like to be away from the children so most of the time only works the bare minimum 16 hrs and takes most of the school holidays off. However, they are always happy, the kids want for nothing and are always incredibly grateful for anything they get. They do have foreign students over the holidays which helps them out a bit. HTH

I do hope you're not too old! I'm just about to turn thirty and due with my first!

One of the things I've heard said on here is that if you have older children it isn't always more difficult, because they can help out with a baby too.

But personally, I would focus on trying to get rid of some of the debt as well, before you start trying, but that's just imvho.

Twiglett · 06/02/2007 17:27

um is this a piss-take

surely everyone knows that its after 35 that chances of conceiving and risk start to (on average) increase

EllieHsMum · 06/02/2007 17:29

omg i had my first last year at the age of 36!

pinkchampagne · 06/02/2007 17:29

30 is no way too old to be having a baby!!!

auntymandy · 06/02/2007 17:30

30 too old pah!!!!!
thats from a 41 year old having no 6!!!

evenhope · 06/02/2007 17:38

OK. I had my first at 22, my 4th at 28 and am currently 34 weeks pg with my 5th at 43. Same DH.

When we had number 4 I'd just gone back to work and wasn't entitled to maternity leave but I had to ask for my job back when he was 4 mths old because the car blew up. We've never had any money- it runs out long before the month does.

Currently got a 21 year old and 3 teens. Things do get better, despite no money. Only you can decide whether to have another but if you wait until you can afford it you never will.

HTH

Hi i have 2 children and 2 step kids ,money seriously tight, not possible for me too have any more (very expensive fertility needed) if i could i would have more and i'm 33 and consider myself just about ready emtionally to cope with kids .i had fun when i was younger. So i say don't think too long, because no matter how much money you get in more will always go out.

izzybiz · 14/03/2007 14:58

I had my first child at 16, so i have been a mum for a very long time.
I always said i wouldnt have any more after the age of 30 as i felt i didnt want to spend my entire adult life having babies!
I had no 2 when i was 28, now im 30 (nearly 31) I am starting to like the idea of another, but i understand the "old" feeling, when you have been a mum that long it does feel sometimes like thats all you have ever done, IYSWIM?

I think it is different if you are having your 1st in your 30s.
