I have 2 children and a step daughter, my dd is 8 my ds is 20 months and my sd is 9, i am longing for another baby and my dh has just agreed we can try for another next year, i will be 30 by then. am i too old and mad, my family think im mad and my sister said its to old more so that i have 1 of each plus a sd. Also the big downer is money, we bring a good amount in but a lot goes out, debt and stuff, is there anybody out there that has four children and no money if so am i doing the right thing and will i cope????.

wow, what a thread to get people going!
30 too old?? No, you are absolutely young. I am 37 and am 14 weeks pregnant with my second. I do not feel old and nor do I have anyone around me telling me I am. Is your partner also being told that he is too old????!!! Anyone who thinks you are too old really needs to get out there and experience a bit more life!!!

Go for it if its what you both want but please realise how young you are and that you have masses more time to enjoy other things in life for yourself after the child rearing bit. I have a massive long list of things that I want to do once my two are at school (if not before).
Good luck with it, hope you get what you want. By the way, my husband and I are currently really struggling for money but it didn't put us off baby number two, its just that things are going to be really tight for next couple of years and so we do things like only doing cash now, no credit cards, not making any financial commitments without going home and waiting a week or two to make sure how we will manage and camping only holidays etc etc. Maybe make an appointment with an independent financial advisor? I do know how stressful money issues can be and so it may help to talk it over with someone who is not emotionally involved.

PMSL at all of the responses I had my 3rd at 31 and everyone kept asking if it was my 1st because it's more"normal" to be starting to have babies at that age now. Agree the money is more of an issue, I'd like to have a 4th but not sure we will.

TeeCee · 06/02/2007 11:12

Too old at 30 What on earth would give you that idea?
I started at 30, am pregnant with no 3 at 35 yrs old and I would say I'm a young mum. Loads of mums older than me still having children and some not started yet.

aquasea · 06/02/2007 11:15

Too OLD at 30?!! I read that the average age for a first baby (in certain areas of London) is 37!! I am pregnant with my first at the moment and I will be 30 when the little one arrives. I can confirm that any antenatal appointments I go to, I am definitely the youngest in the waiting area. I think (as everyone else seems to have said) no, you are definitely not too old!
xx

WinniethePooh · 06/02/2007 11:17

No you are not too old.

I was 32 when I had my DD. I am now 5 week pregrant with my 2nd and will be 37 in July

tinytotmummy · 06/02/2007 11:22

Jaynel, have just found out that I'm pregnant with no 3 and I will be 29. Pregnancy wasn't planned, although I made no secret of the fact that I wanted another one. I have DSD 17, DS 3.4 and DD 2.1. We too have quite a decent wage coming in but lots of debt and I have just given up my FT job as we are moving. I am using my wages for the next two months to pay off as much debt as possible, still be tight though. I'm sure we'll cope, something always turns up

eidsvold · 06/02/2007 11:35

bloody hell - too old - I didn't have no1 until almost 34!!

having no3 next month - now 38!! be 39 later this year.

Gingerbear · 06/02/2007 11:42

Don't worry about the age gaps - having two older daughters will be fab for babysitting!

I think you should think about the money situation rather than be worried about your age.

I had DD at 38, and expecting no 2 at 43 - another oldie mum here.

It would be good to hear from mums with older kids and babies for their perspective (they are lurking on MN somewhere)

beech · 06/02/2007 11:45

You are no way too old! 30 is young, I have ds who is 9, ds who is 7 and have just had another little boy who is now 3 mths old, it's great, I was really worried but he has fitted in well and is lovely and the boys adore him. Go for it.

mozhe · 06/02/2007 11:50

I didn't even start having children until I was 37.....now I am expecting no 6,( there are twins at nos 4 & 5 ). and am nearly 44....HOWEVER I am not short of money,( delayed having kids so I could become well established in my medical career ), so your family are right to worry, just how short are you ? Could you take a better paid job ? Retrain maybe ? Do a complete overhaul of finances and see where you can save money....maybe take a very short mat leave...

Tommy · 06/02/2007 11:54

hope not - I'm 38 weeks with number 3 and 40 next birthday

Biglips · 06/02/2007 11:55

Lullabyloo · 06/02/2007 11:56

TrinityRhino · 06/02/2007 11:57

jaynel · 06/02/2007 12:13

y am i ridicuolus, and y do i need to get a grip, i am asking 4 your opinions, i am NOT asking for you to judge me, like i said i had my dd at 19, there is a big difference in age!

OP posts:
EnidLloydFoxe · 06/02/2007 12:14

well my opinion is it is a ridiculous question (the age part)

Biglips · 06/02/2007 12:15

do u feel you want a another child? as if yes then go for it (even though your dd is 19) or otherwise it will always be on the back of your mind - good luck xx

EnidLloydFoxe · 06/02/2007 12:15

well there is 20 years between my youngest bro and I and it matters not a jot

CountessDracula · 06/02/2007 12:16

goodness me you lot
calm down!

She obviously doesn't need a savaging for this!

In answer to you Q no you are not too old!

Biglips · 06/02/2007 12:16

doh!!!!... im going!!

No youre never old unless youre 60!!

jaynel · 06/02/2007 12:18

if it was that ridicuolus, i wouldnt be asking, like i said ive been told its too old and just wanted some feedback from others, not judgement!

OP posts:
Biglips · 06/02/2007 12:20

who told you it was too old?
