Ready · 19/01/2007 16:27

Well, Fettle mentioned we should have a general chat thread - and I think it's a great idea!! We could have this one for idle chatter that doesn't have anything to do with actually TTC but just general stuff we want share with our TTC pals... Am I making any sense at all?? Fettle, help me out here

I'll start us off... has everyone seen the public profile that we can share with each other?? It's pretty cool... But I didn't realise how nosy I was, I just keep clicking on everyone's name now

Ready · 20/01/2007 15:31

Rod Stewart is a legend by the way! So no need for blushes!
Oh, and I try not to think of MN as a bad addiction. It's good to have others who are going through similar emotions!!

rod stewart is fantastic - i went to see his production in the west end "Tonights the Night" it was brilliant i wish i had gone to see it again before it finished

fettle · 20/01/2007 17:33

Hi all

I'll try and complete my profile page, don't really get much of chance on here in evenings, as DH gets grumpy! Thinks (probably quite rightly) that you girls get more of my attention than he does!!

I also must stop logging in at work, as I find myself checking if anyone has posted 4-5 times per day and someone will notice, if they haven't already! Don't want to be banned from using internet. Think I may be completely addicted!!

I tried last night, but felt very dull when I couldn't think of witty things to put in the boxes and realised that I can't remember the last film I saw or anything like that! I'll try, I promise.

Well, I've done it!! Don't judge me though, and promise you'll still be my friends!!!

Ready · 21/01/2007 15:44

Fettle, I loved your profile!!! Tee hee, the 'z' comment alone deserves a smug grin!! I thought that too, but I thought, if I mention it people might just tut and eye roll... so yay!! I pmsl at your "ttc toddler" - controversial Oh yeah, and for the record... I list Dirty Dancing as one of my "Guilty Pleasures" along with Living on a Prayer-Bon Jovi and Jerry McGuire

Does anyone else know what I mean with "Guilty Pleasures" - and I'm not being rude!!

Went to see Babel last night, I adore Alejandro Inarritu... an amazing director. It didn't blow me away like I was hoping, but still brillianty shot, and the acting - tres magnifique!!

right... well I am off to watch Arsenal v Man Utd... Come on The Gooners!

hi girls - Ready I'm glad someone else admits to liking Dirty Dancing. I just found out today it is on at the West End. Trying to persuade DH to take me next Saturday for my birthday, if he can't get tickets for the Sound of Music - can't think why he wasn't keen??!!!

iwillbepgbydec07 · 22/01/2007 10:41

i am sure we all got 'asked' the same questions! dont panic girls there is no favouritism going on! it was in the tell us a bit about yourself section...they just listed a few examples of things you approve / disapprove of etc! no big deal!

i dont know why fruit shoots are considered so bad really! probably used to be lots of additives and e numbers in them, dont think they are as bad anymore. VERY popular with kids though and seem to have a diuretic effect on my ds so i try to avoid them otherwise all i hear for the rest of the day is ......muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuummmmmmy, i need to do a wee,............muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuummmmy.....i need to do a wee!

Ready · 22/01/2007 14:36

Apologies for starting a conspiracy row (Where's the Daily Express?? I'll take my cut in small denominations please!)...

OP posts:
honeyapple · 22/01/2007 16:16

Fruit shoots are pretty grim- i mean have you ever tried one? Yuck- esp the apple one- that is vile! They annoy me because they pretend to less informed people that they are "healthy" because they are "sugar-free"- but contain disgusting artifical sweeteners. I would much rather my kids had sugar than sweeteners.

Ready · 22/01/2007 16:43

That drives me insane... my DH won't drink plain water and insists on squash... and over the past few weeks I have been trying to get him to drink the sugar only options and he doesn't like them. He only likes the robinsons no added sugar, full of sweetener crap! I seriously think he is addicted to the sweetener!!!

I looked at the robinsons normal (green lid) and even that has sweetener and sugar!! Possibly better than all sweetener!!

Has anyone seen that other thread about the trans fats... I used to think I had a good diet... now I am not so convinced!!

Ready · 22/01/2007 16:44

Never had a fruit shoot though!

gillian1973 · 22/01/2007 19:23

wow a thread were people admit to having Dirty Dancing as one of their favourite films - I'm in heaven!

Working for an art house cinema I can hardley pick that as my fave in public but I am a complete closet DD fan!!

fettle · 22/01/2007 19:43

Gillian, oh no, is it really that bad to admit to liking dirty dancing????

I think I'm just a hopeless romantic at heart and I had huge crush on Patrick Swayze (in that film only!!!)

I know what fruit shoots are now, I've remembered. Won't let DD have them, mean mother that I am. Would rather she had proper fruit juice or just water. Am I a mean mother?

greedyforbabies · 22/01/2007 20:09

no fettle, you are a GOOD mother! i would do that if i were stronger, but occasionally my kids do have them! they seem to be on all the kids menus in the pubs and pizza hut etc, so they normally get one each when we go out for lunch!

greedyforbabies · 22/01/2007 20:13

just read that back and realised i sound like a REALLY bad mother! PUBS?.... PIZZA HUT? ..........? i do feed my kids healthily honestly i do! they do very healthy pasta options in pizza hut and healthy kids meals (apart from the fruit shoots and ice cream!) in most of our local pubs!
OH MY GOD!!! i am frantically over compensating and waffling to try and redeem myself so you dont all call someone to come and take my kids off me!

fettle · 22/01/2007 20:53

Don't worry Greedy - I'm just fortunate that I seem to have a DD who quite happily lets me take her chocolate off her and replace it with an orange, on the understanding that the chocolate comes back afterwards! So on the whole we manage to avoid the unfortunate food discussions. However, the one time she's had a fruit shoot was in a chain pub and the children on the next door table had them and DD screamed for one - easier to give in to the screaming child than causing a scene I say myself!!
I think it was more the drinking bottle with the cool lid that she wanted rather than the juice inside, but they don't often sell bottles of water in those sports like drinking bottles, IYKWIM!

I think I'm waffling now and DH is grumping that I've been on the computer all evening, but I have been working a bit, promise!!

speak tomorrow.

Fettle... I get around the DD conundrum by saying that it's a "guilty pleasure"... it's ok to have those!

Oh Gillian, what a great job working for an art house cinema - I am a total film devotee. I love love love going to the cinema. My local Odeon has started a Mothers and Babys screening... so really looking forward to taking my baby (fingers crossed) along to get them started early

Ready, I do enjoy it though being the fundraiser means it has been really stressful too.

I go through phases of coming every week and when don't for months. I get two comps a week so I have managed to recently see The Prestige and Stanger than Fiction. Now waiting to see the re-run of Pan's Labrynth and the re-release of Casablanca on Valentines Day!Also a big Woody Allen and Almodovar fan. What do you like?

We are planning to start parent/baby screenings and I can't wait to get pg to at least be able to take part (oops! sorry I forgot this was a non ttc thread!)
