Ready · 19/01/2007 16:27

Well, Fettle mentioned we should have a general chat thread - and I think it's a great idea!! We could have this one for idle chatter that doesn't have anything to do with actually TTC but just general stuff we want share with our TTC pals... Am I making any sense at all?? Fettle, help me out here

I'll start us off... has everyone seen the public profile that we can share with each other?? It's pretty cool... But I didn't realise how nosy I was, I just keep clicking on everyone's name now

It's ok, I started the baby talk

OOOOOH. I wanted to see The Prestige, but we didn't get a chance to see it, by the time we had time to go it wasn't out anymore ... is it amazing?? I can't wait to see it.

I didn't see Stranger Than Fiction either, I read the reviews and they weren't complimentary. Not that I believe what the critics say!! The premise has so much potential... did it work?? I love Emma Thompson!

Last thing I saw was Babel, and The Last King Of Scotland.

I have only recently got into Woody Allen, but I am truly inspired by him. I long to be even half as good as he is!! Watched Match Point and really enjoyed it (with the exception of Jonathan Rhys-Meyers appalling (IMO) acting)... loved Melinda and Melinda... then recently Annie Hall and Manhattan were on Film4/TCM (I forgot which) and really enjoyed them both... Annie Hall more so.

I have such wide range of tastes (just updated my profile) of movies... I haven't got one genre that I love the most. If I had to choose one film the rest of my life it would be Jackie Brown - Quentin Tarantino! I love him, he is awesome.

Ok... I seem to have waffled on here

The Prestige was good - not as good as Insomnia and Memento (by same director) but certainly good to pass the time - good twist at the end.

Stranger than Fiction was fun but could have well been a Sat movie with a pizza at home kind of thing. No need for the big screen.

One of my favourite Woody Allen films is Everyone Says I Love You. It is very corny (a musical!) but it makes me smile every time. If you are feeling down about you know what, watch it and have a laugh at the silliness of it all.

Ready · 23/01/2007 17:53

I will look out for that when AF arrives!! I'm not aversed to a cheesy musical!

I love Christopher Nolan's work... Memento is a fabulous film... Guy Pearce is brilliant! - I always picture the tattoos!... Insomnia is brilliant too, Robin Williams as a weirdo is always great to watch (One Hour Photo!) and who doesn't think highly of Al Pacino!? Really enjoyed Batman Begins too... He really nails the dark genre!

I feel like such a geek rambling on about films, but other than my DH, no one I know has passion for films like I do... I remember someone at work saying that they thought Lost In Translation was pointless and dull with no plot, and I got most annoyed, and the debate(mostly friendly!) went on for days!

Yay.. My husband has just brought me a new laptop... SOOOOOO happy... It's for my new business...It's white and quite girlie...

gillian1973 · 23/01/2007 18:35

Its OK, I heard someone say that she didn't get the ending of The Fellowship of the Rings and that it seemed unfinished! Didn't have a clue it was part of a bigger story!

Sorry to bore everyone, see what Dirty Dancing has started off?
Has anyone been to see it on stage? I'd love to go!

gillian1973 · 23/01/2007 18:35

is it a mac? They are really smart!

Ready · 23/01/2007 18:41

OOoh rahrah, I have been begging for a laptop for ages.

Your new business?? Is it top secret? Or do you need recruits

OP posts:
rahrah1 · 23/01/2007 19:14

It's really nice.. I'm a very lucky girl!

I work for a bank, but being made redundant, I'm currently on my notice period. I have been aware of the redundancy for a long time, due to some project work I was doing.. so started making plans. My own business also fitted in with having a child, so I could work more flexible hours. I have a partner in the business (my father)..but I boss him around ..hehe
I do miss my minions...but my dad will have to do for now.. I have realised how lazy I could be..even down to putting paper in the printer. Our business is predominately financial planning, workshops, seminars and advisory. But we are quite different from the normal IFA businesses that are out there.

What do you do?

rahrah1 · 23/01/2007 19:16

Oh yer, forgot to mention my husband works for an IT company and got my laptop Very cheap...

Rah rubs salt in the deep wounds of Ready's missing laptop...

Ready · 23/01/2007 19:28

Blimey, that all sounds very clever!!

I've been a civil servant since I was 21. Very dull.

at your laptop.

Least you have a good pension scheme...

I'm playing on my new laptop...yayayayyayay

Ready · 23/01/2007 21:25

OK.... I have a question... ridiculously ahead of myself (but then what is new!) but I have been thinking about what pram/pushchair I would like...

Well, I have to confess I am partial to the bugaboos... but I read on here somewhere they are chavvy? I have never heard this before. Can anyone shed some light on this??

Not that it would stop me. I would just make sure I didn't get it in Burberry swatch

OP posts:
greedyforbabies · 23/01/2007 21:40

ready! stop it!!!!! when you are pg you will have lots of time to decide on what pram you want! you were also guilty of starting a baby names thread weren't you?.....STOP IT! what will you do when you are pg if you have already decided on all this stuff beforehand! 9 months is a long time to fill...........try and save something to do when you are pg!

greedyforbabies · 23/01/2007 21:40

i too got a really cheap laptop, courtesey of my IT geek dh!

Ready · 23/01/2007 21:53

I started the name thread, yes. But I haven't decided on names... DH and I cannot agree on girls names at all.
When (please let it be soon) I am pg, I will spend my evenings doing nothing but making DH make me cups of ovaltine and rub cocoa butter into my belly so any decisions that can be made now leave more time for belly rubs

OP posts:
greedyforbabies · 23/01/2007 21:54

ok! you win! cocoa butter doesn't work by the way!

Ready · 23/01/2007 21:56

You see... all these things need to be thrashed out before a BFP!! I need something that works!! If it's not cocoa butter, then I need alternatives...

Do I sound like a control freak???

rahrah1 · 23/01/2007 21:58

oh..my DH is very geeky too and working in IT..

On the pushchair side....as I did take a sneak preview when I was pregnant. Bugaboos are lovely and are very expensive. The best one to get is around £750 with most of the accessories . However due to cleb's having them they become desirable to all sorts. I have seen some people with them and thought...ummm that does not look good! We also looked at the Quinney but when we went to John Lewis a man said to his wife it looked like a golf cart...that put me off.

But also agree with Ready..these are all things that you should wait for when you are pregnant... it is so good seeing all the things for the first time and getting all the brochures.. Otherwise 9 months will REALLY drag!

Ready · 23/01/2007 22:04

Oh alright... I promise I won't look at another pram until I am pg.

greedyforbabies · 23/01/2007 22:06

rahrah! its me you agree with, not ready! she is the loon already planning what her first ice cube tray of frozen baby food will consist of!

hehe,,,, what names have you come up with so far?

I had this problem with my husband..we really clashed on names. He likes Celtic names or 'superhero names' ...he wanted the first name to match our surname like Peter Parker (Spiderman).
I like names that are traditional, but that can we made into cute nicknames. I love Winnifred...as adore Winnie...

We got Bertie from him being called 'BURT'T'BABY' by my husband from our first scan about 6/7 weeks and it just stuck (Vic & Bob big night out) and then we were considering Albert. Bertie goes well with our surname as well and we have Al' in a few of my family names...my brother is called Alec, my uncle is Alan...
But after Bertie was born he did not look like an Albert..so we just called him Bertie.

rahrah1 · 23/01/2007 22:13

Hehe...sorry for the mix up.....

Ready · 23/01/2007 22:16

I think Bertie is a gorgeous name!! Albert is very manly too!!

Well... I like Scarlett and DH doesn't like it at all and I have always liked Sienna, but do agree with DH that cos of Sienna Miller's fame, it's not a good idea. He likes Chloe, and I do, but it's in the top 5, and I don't want something that is popular. IYKWIM? He likes Leah and I knew a girl who was a trollop so no. It's hard.

For boys we are decided on 2 so no need for arguments there.

OP posts:
Ready · 23/01/2007 22:16

I should have said "agreed" not "decided"... I am not being cocky about getting pregnant. Really I am not.
