Positive opk after a miscarriage

Hi, hoping someone a bit more knowledgable than me can help me figure this out! I had a medically managed miscarriage 9 days ago and have had strong positives on opks for the last 2 days. I know that they pick up hcg so presumed that this was just picking up left over hormones from the pregnancy. Today I had a very faint positive on a pregnancy test so looks as though my hormone levels are nearly back to normal, but the opk is still coming up with a strong positive. The pregnancy test is 10 miu and the opk 20 - so my question is this still just left over hormones when the pregnancy tests are getting lighter and the opks aren't?

I do remember Mel saying it's possible to ovulate with HCG still in your system. It's strange that you would get a negative and then a positive so close together! I guess it's just hard to tell whether it's old or new. Perhaps test again tomorrow and see if the line is getting darker? fingers crossed!

Some people do get pg straight away after mc so def possible!

Do you guys still follow SMEP? I can't help thinking that dtd on cd6 and 8 is a waste of sperm when I ov on cd11/12. It says start on cd6 with a 26 day cycle. I'm on cd5 today.

Im def gonna start opk on cd8 which I didn't last cycle. I started on cd10 which was positive.

thatsnotmybear · 28/07/2016 10:44

I was going to ask that question Allium! How many times does everyone DTD and when, in relation to OV? We've been sort of following SMEP by DTD for 3 consecutive days just before & during a positive opk, but I'm wondering if we're doing it enough?

That's an interesting development Mcbaby... I did a couple of tests after I got a negative hpt to double-check, and they were definitely all negative.

Allium40 · 28/07/2016 10:52

What cd do you start Bear?

Allium40 · 28/07/2016 11:33

Last month we dtd on cd10,11,12,13 and 16 but had a panic on cd10 as got a positive opk.

I think I'll start on cd8 or 9 this month but opk from cd8.

Mcbaby, it's possible. I ovd whilst still getting positive hpt, but equally it could just be you were more dehydrated or something? I'd definitely try tomorrow or the next day and compare - fingers crossed!

Glad all the accupunture is going well, I'm tempted to give it a go.

We're still doing smep, I've been thinking the same about day 8 maybe being too early. However I did read that its best to have sex once or twice before ovulation time as it reduced the damaged/dead sperm so by ovulation they're healthier. I think the one after ovulation is a waste of time though if you're sure you've ovulated and I generally just can't be bothered by then!

It's a bit weird stupid tests I need to call the gp tomorrow as it's still positive to arrange blood tests which is what she advised if they are still positive this week. But I am also getting cramping in my tummy and have that hideous metallic taste in my mouth so my hormones are playing up!

Dd1 was conceived the day after ovulation, no idea with dd2 as hadn't had a period since dd1 and caught the first egg. The last pregnancy we conceived from dtd over 3 days before ovulation! So I would just go for it when ever abs as much as you can it only takes one!

I've been going off this, I'm not sure if its accurate but most of what I've seen seems to pretty much agree with it - www.naturalfp.com/image/54584126_scaled_320x240.jpg

So 1-2 days before ov seems to be the best shot, but as you say it only takes the one and I guess it must be different for each person.

SMM 16th May

Last cycle we DTD on CD11, 12 & 13, but I was slightly caught out by an unexpectedly short cycle of 24 days (was always 27 days before the mc). I'm not sure exactly when/whether I ov'd either, as I didn't get a Peak on the CBFM and only a near positive on an opk before I ran out.

I'm definitely going to be using opk's and DTD earlier on this cycle in case it's another short one. And clearing out all the dead or damaged sperm makes a lot of sense (although I may potentially get DH to deal with that on his own, ha ha!)

Yes I'm thinking the same re 'clearing the sperm' Bear!

May 'clear the sperm' on cd5/6 then dtd cd 9/10/11 or something like that.

I haven't bought the conceive plus yet as I'm at my folks and didn't want them opening it! I presume you can buy it at Boots?

McBaby are you ttc#3?

McBaby · 28/07/2016 21:00

blossom they are 20 months apart but breastfeeding kept my period away for nearly a year.

I am no stressed out I hate not know know I what my body is struggling to relax or think about anything else!

thatsnotmybear · 28/07/2016 21:23

Blossom I have no idea whether a short cycle is normal/expected after SMM but it was the shortest cycle I've ever had! When I started spotting on CD23 I was even hopeful that it might've been implantation. No such luck!

I'm sorry for the loss of your dad, and to be followed by a mc. What a difficult time for you.

Allium40 · 28/07/2016 21:56

Sorry to hear about your Dad Blossom. And then to go through a MC. Hopefully he's looking down on you and sending you some good luck Halo.

McBaby, my 2 are almost the same. 21 months between them and only 1 period before I conceived DD2.

thatsnotmybear · 29/07/2016 07:15

Question for everyone - how long does your AF last? I'm on CD8 and still have brown spotting (not enough to wear a pad, just when I wipe). This is fairly normal for me but my acupuncturist thinks it goes on for too long and interferes with my pre-ov phase - according to Ovia this is the first day of my FW so she has a point! I find it annoying as I can't really check CM and don't much feel like DTD when I'm still spotting. How about everyone else?

jinglebellmel · 29/07/2016 08:18

It's normally pretty short, about 3 days, but has been followed by spotting until ov since the mc

jinglebellmel · 29/07/2016 08:18

Blossom, sorry you've been through such a shitty time :(

OP posts:
Allium40 · 29/07/2016 09:11

Bear, I was going to ask the same. Last month I had 6 days of AF which ranged from heavy to spotting. My acu'ist also said this was too long. This month I had 2 heavy days and 2 light days. My AF is heavier than it used to be and longer. But the last 2-3 days is spotting.

Weird how cycles change. My boobs no longer get sore after ov and I'm worried in case this means I have low progesterone.
