TTC following an ectopic pregnancy

Hi, My DH and I have been TTC for the last 8 months and finally found out I was pregnant before christmas. Since then I have been in hospital and have been treated for an ectopic pregnancy. I was given a hefty dose of Methotrexate which has made me feel rotten and should induce a miscarriage soon. We can't start TTC for 3 months now which is really hard to take as it took us a while the first time - but everything will have to be on hold until the summer now. Has anyone experienced this?

cedar, im sorry.

clomid boosts ovulation, so it may be worth discussing with your specialist. totally understand your decision to start ivf. think i'd do the same in your position, are you going thru the nhs or private (sorry if im being nosey)

PE, how are you doing? had you got a hol booked? if so you can transfer it til next year.

hi 99rb, hope you're ok.

PinkElephant · 27/05/2007 12:20

Cedar - I'm sorry too honey. Hope the referral goes well. Woking isn't far from me!
My friend's on clomid in tablet form as she wasn't ovulating, now she has to wait a while before going onto the next treatment. Really don't know too much about clomid, but it sounds an idea - do you think you are not ovulating?

Lissie - yes we had a holiday booked in canada for a friends wedding. I decided last week that as much as I'm desperate to go, I'm more desperate for this baby and don't want to take any chances at all. Our friends getting married know about the ectopic and have be fantastically understanding. Dh is going anyway as he is an usher and doing a reading, he's really sad about going alone but we'd never forgive ourselves if anything went wrong. You just never know with these long haul flights...One week to go until second scan to see the heartbeat and then I'll relax a little. Feeling generally knackered and am in bed by 9pm with either morning or evening sickness

och that's a shame, cedar. still, a fresh slate for this month and all that... onwards and upwards etc etc. i got pregnant the very month my IVF appointment came through, as it happens.

do you know, it occurred to me that when i was ttc dd i even laty at night on the side of my one remaining tube, to try to let gravity boost my chances if i'd ovulated from my tubeless side... lawks, i was a bit nuts, wasn't i? (bet you all try it now ).

lissie · 27/05/2007 15:30

you're doing the right thing PE. don't take any unnecessary risks.

aitch, think i do that anyway

cedar12 · 27/05/2007 16:59

I already thought of that Aitch as well!
Lissie we are going privatley we are very lucky and my mum is going to pay. Otherwise I think we would be adding even more to are mortgage.

cedar12 · 27/05/2007 17:00

Pink elephant I am pretty sure i am ovulating so not sure if clomid would really help.

lissie · 27/05/2007 17:02

wow, wish my mum was like that! seriously, i know what it must've taken to make that decision. {{hug}}

cedar12 · 27/05/2007 17:05

Glad I have made it now maybe we will relax a bit. Finding the 2 week wait awful after 2 1/2 years of ttc.

Aitch · 27/05/2007 20:05

i think that's what happened to me, cedars... two ectopics and one tube... no matter how hard you try, it's hard to stay 'relaxed'. getting the letter, even though the appointment was six months away, gave me mixed feelings, failure, weirdy, why can't i when everyone else can etc etc but also 'oh thank God, someone else is going to be responsible for all this'. and as i say, that was the same month that i got pg.
i wish you all the best luck in the world, get the appointment, it's something very positive, but i hope you end off not needing it.

lissie · 28/05/2007 09:49

can understand that aitch.

cedar12 · 28/05/2007 15:49

Thanks Aitch, Its just so frustrating that this is so difficult. Never thought it could be this hard especially as we had dd so easily 3 ttc and no problems after that. going back to work next weekend after 2 weeks off dreading it my pg friend at work has just past the 3 month milestone so everyone will just be talking babies when I get back.

Genidef · 29/05/2007 20:39

HSG on Monday. Anyone else been there? Thoughts on what to expect? Couldn't find as much as I thought might be there when I searched...Guess I also partially just wanted to share the news and get good vibes.

lissie · 29/05/2007 22:13

both cedar and PE have had HSGs and if/when af comes i have to book mine. apparently its uncomfortable rather than painful and you should take some nureofen beforehand. how do you feel about it?

Genidef · 29/05/2007 22:27

I hope my husband can make it to the procedure. He missed my drs appt last week and boy was I cross. Probably irrationally so, but it just felt like...he didn't think it was important! I haven't really thought about what I will do if it's not great news. The result comes two days later. In my mind, I will have this test and all will be well. Like, I'll start trying w/e after! I guess there's no harm in having positive thoughts!

I asked if there would be gas and air available -"No it won't be that painful." I'm thinking - you don't understand, any excuse will do!

lissie · 29/05/2007 22:29

lol. where are you? is there anyone else who can come with?

Genidef · 29/05/2007 22:42

East London. Not really. Good friends away or working, MIL in the north, SIL travelling...mum in the US . Seriously, I'll be fine...hopefully DH can get 1 solid hour off from school. THe main issue is it's the first day back from half term...

lissie · 29/05/2007 22:43

understandable! PE's sure that the HSG has helped her concieve this LO, apparently it flushes the tube out!

lissie · 29/05/2007 22:44

did you have a ruptured ep? or do you still have both tubes?

sparklygothkat · 29/05/2007 22:45

hows everyone doing?? any BFP that I have missed?

lissie · 29/05/2007 22:50

SGK how are you hun?

PE got a bfp, shes 7w(?) and beanie is in the right place!

Genidef · 29/05/2007 22:50

No Lissie, lost right tube in December. Surgery - was only 6 wks but was told there was no hope to save it and apparently it was close to rupturing when they took it out! Almost cancelled the scan as from the bloods they told me the pregnancy was "proceeding normally." Yikes!

You?

lissie · 29/05/2007 23:10

wow, sounds like me. i was told that id mc'ed by my gp then after bleeding had stopped still knew i was pg, did a test BFP went for a scan and they didnt check the tubes, just said that there was nothing in my womb. took bloods but my HCG levels doubled, then i started bleeding black stuff, went back and my tube had just ruptured! v scary!

sparklygothkat · 29/05/2007 23:10

Oh I am so happy for PE!!!!

I am ok, 17 weeks now, have started to feel the baby moving, and heard its heartbeat last week (118-120bpm, so everyone thinks its a boy now lol)

lissie · 29/05/2007 23:12

oh how lovely!!!! how are you feeling?

sparklygothkat · 29/05/2007 23:17

I feel ok, still tired, but I think that its running around after 3 kids. have a smallish bump, which means I can't wear my jeans anymore Its scary how fast this pregnancy is going. I have to move my kids rooms around, the DDs will be going into DS' room, DS will be going into Dd2's room and the baby will be in dd1's room, so we have lots of juggling to do...
