TTC following an ectopic pregnancy

Hi, My DH and I have been TTC for the last 8 months and finally found out I was pregnant before christmas. Since then I have been in hospital and have been treated for an ectopic pregnancy. I was given a hefty dose of Methotrexate which has made me feel rotten and should induce a miscarriage soon. We can't start TTC for 3 months now which is really hard to take as it took us a while the first time - but everything will have to be on hold until the summer now. Has anyone experienced this?

LissiLou, Aitch, thanks for your quick responses! I was told that nobody scans before
week 6 and that blood is the only thing you can do before. Aitch, what did the ysee in the scane at 5 weeks? Thanks again!

i had a 5w scan with ds coz i was bleeding, and i lied about how many w i was. and we saw the scan in the womb. i also had a scan with my ep at 4+5 and didnt see anything, but its worth pushing for a scan

well, the truth is that the docs like it to be 6 weeks because by then in a normal pregnancy you should be able to see a sac in the womb so they gt to rule out an ep and send you on your merry way.
what they are not telling you, however, is that it it's an ep you will often be able to see free fluid (blood, swelling etc) around the area where the affected tube is, which obbviously can give a good indication. because i was bleeding and in pain and because thanks to my two previous eps i only have on precious tube left i absolutely put my foot down and insisted that i was scanned. it was every two days from 4 and a half weeks and we saw a tiny glimmer of a sac inside the womb at about 5. but by that time i was already feeling that i wasn't in immediate danger of a rupture just because there was not free fluid, iykwim?
to be fair to the docs, you don't have clear-cut symptoms just yet (for example cervical erosion or implantation can give you the bleeding) so it's fair enough if that's their hospital policy. however, if i was you i'd be banging on about my surgical history and, er, fudging my dates...

Dear Aitsch and Lissie. Thanks again so much for your replies. I guess having as much info as possible is the best way to somehow gain control over that feeling of being completely and utterly exposed to everything. I will see how I feel and the moment I have pain in one side I will insist on a scan. The bleeding itself in not bad, just the worries and my history. There were moments in the last ten days where I had a glimpse of hope that this could be viable pregnancy, but most of the time I was just waiting to miscarry. Hasn't been a happy time at all. Will look up what cervical erosion is. That seems it could be connected with the cervical dammage I had. Thanks again -- I will let you know what it turns out to be.

oh, some people get bleeding from the actual cervix and it's not a big deal. there's a lot going on, lots of blood supplies being set up iykwim? i used to get small amounts of staining after sex, for example, but i knew that this was my cervix bleeding rather than anything internal iykwim?

Hello everyone just start to monitor my temp but the book which aitch recomended still hasnt arrived so I am a bit lost understand basic principle but how much should I expect it to go up by. When it goes up does it mean I have already ovulated or it is going to happen.
Pink elephant how are you? I am getting really nervous about hsg on wednesday I just hope ok for both of us. If my tube is blocked i think it will be ivf for us next Good luck for wednesday. You wont believe when the follow up appointment is for hsg 25 september I told them they can stick it. Hopefully one of the fertility nurse is going to look up results for me on friday if she can but looks like i will have to see the consultant privately.
Lissie isnt your appointment this week to?

that's outrageous, you ordered it ages ago. was it amazon? (and if you go to fertilityfriends.com or .co.uk you can get the free software so that you never have to understand how it all works. i certainly never did but i still temped successfully ).

What a busy weekend on here for you all - how are things for everyone?? Hope you're ok Glimmer and 99?

Cedar - yes I'm a little apprehensive about wednesday but want it over and done with all the same. I can't beleive your follow up will be in september - thats ridiculous. I have nagged and nagged for all my appoints and finally got one in April (friday 13th - hope its not an omen!!) to see the consultant. I'm really hoping they will be able to give me some kind of clue what the results are after the scan on wednesday though

How are you Lissie, Aitch and how are the pregnancies going MissNatalie & Sparkly? {smile]

I;m ok, still feeling very rough, but have my scan next monday been to GP this morning, where I have been booked in at the better hosiptal rather than the one that sent me away when I went to A&E with the EP

Sparkly - thank god you're being looked after by a different hospital!! Does it put your mind at ease a little?
Lissie - Poor thing...nothing like AF to make you feel worse than you do already.

yes, I thought the gp would say no when I asked but she just said yes straight away, just hopes she remembers to book me into the correct hospital lol!!
However.......... she did say that because I am feeling so rough, so tired and had a postive test a week before my period was due, and as I have never had MS in any of my pregnancies before, that something is different with this pregnancy and it could be twins!! DH said that he will cry if the EPU say its twins next week...

right what was your af after an ep like? mine started with spotting (v odd)over 2d and seems quite dry iykwim. is this normal?

Hi everyone, Aitch I did order the book through amazon deliver date 16th!
Pink elephant glad you have got a follow up appointment that isnt to far in the distant future. I couldnt believe it when they said september for mine I am hoping to be able to talk to my consultant on the phone or if not I supose I will have to see him privately. Just to worn you when I had my 1st hsg they werent very keen on telling me what they saw, In fact they told me it all looked ok then I found out 6wks later it was blocked I think they can only tell whats really going on when they sit down and examine the films afterwards. The fertility nurse at the hospital is going to try and fin d the results out for me this friday so maybe you could try something like that.
Sparkley it sound really positive that you feeling so sick etc. My friend who had twins felt the same! very sick and very tired.
Lissie I hope your feeling a bit better today.
I hope 99 rb is ok.

Bloody Nhs expect me to wait to september to find out the results on my hsg I didnt know whether to laugh or cry when they told me. Another £100 to see the consultant for 10 minutes I wish I earnt that much an hour!

I tell you the whole system of making appointments is a bloody nightmare!! There's no wonder we all think oh sod it and just start TTC again. Thanks for the info Cedar - they told me they cannot give me the reults tomorrow but other people have mentioned they might be able to...either way I have an appointment on Friday 13th April to see the consultant. Now whats the betting they will loose my results by then ..... very likley there will be something that will happen to delay my results!! . Getting a bit twitchy about tomorrow now how are yiu feeling? What will you do about your appoint - go private?
