Looks like Robutussin is a cough medicine, is it used to make more mucous?

A soft cup looks a bit like a mooncup to me.

Hersetta · 04/01/2007 16:28

Go for it goingfor3 - good luck.

My DH has been ever so funny since we got our BFP - he keeps saying I've stolen his seed!

Actually the BDing that day was his idea - I just chose the position.

JoAndTheBoys · 04/01/2007 16:47

Congratulations Hersetta!

The 'ew' days worked for me too when I conceived ds1&2. Not had any this month so we'll see...

Fingerscrossed2007, have you tried ebay for the OP sticks? I got some cheap early pg tests last week from there and found reasonably cheap bbt thermometers and ov sticks. Was tempted to get them but going to see what happens this month and then get them to use subsequently if I don't get lucky.

JoAndTheBoys · 04/01/2007 16:48

Wondering what these 'soft cups' are...

Fingerscrossed2007 · 04/01/2007 17:36

I first spotted info on robutussin and softcps on the two week wait website (i think

robutussin - the expectorant version helps to thin mucus including cervical mucus. aparently severl consultants advice women using clomid to take it if their mucus s always. you take it for 6 days (as if you had a cough) - your mucus thins and it is easer for sperm to swim through. Aparently it only helps if mucus is the problem and of course you do have to ovulate. No contraindications for the cough mixture harming you or the foetus. The information i found stresses that the active ingredient doesnt make more mucus it simply thins what is there. makes sense to me.

instead softcups Basicall they are a disposale version of the mooncup. They were designed for the same reason but apparently there is a some (NOT a lot) evidence that they can be used to aid conception if you put one in after sex. They have the effect of holding sperm close to your cervix the theory beign that this makes it easier for more to swim through - ie the sperm can be a bit lazy/conserve their energy however you want to look at it. i suppose its a similar effect to elevatign your hips for a while - except you can get up and go staright after BD some wome swear that the time they got a BFP this was te only thing that was different - plus the american FDA have just allowed the manufactureres to refer to it as a fertility aid. who knows though?

Fingerscrossed2007 · 04/01/2007 17:42

Oh I meant to say very many congratulations Hersetta!

Big hugs

goingfor3 · 04/01/2007 17:57

I can see your point that the soft cup may hold in sperm but would it not also block some out?

Fingerscrossed2007 · 04/01/2007 18:42

good point. several days yet before i have to make a decison though. I think that in the end i will try it after one BD and then au naturelle for the rest of the time.

Not so worried about the cost of them as I can use them if AF arrives on the 29th.

My biggest worry (after not gettign a BFP) is the potenial to get really stressed about this. I know that last month was a bit extreme what with xmas/new year but the timing of my cycle meant that I had 2 weeks completely torn about whether or not to drink alcohol just in case - added to the whole plaver of how to hide the lower alcohol intake from frinds and relatives. Now I'm back at the begining of the cycle I'm ponderig about how to make sure that we actually the opportunity to BD when we need to whilst also keeping things spontaneous . Any tips!

MrsBeee CD Day 23 AF due 10 January

Hersetta congratulations on your wonderful news! We look forward to joining you soon!

Fingerscrossed2007 I think its really difficult not to get caught up in the whole TTC thing, trust me, I did a test today at work 8 days early, knowing full well that it wouldn't show up yet but I just can't wait ! (sorry clearblue fairy wherever you are....) (It was BFN BTW) However it is important to remember that the same part of the brain that controls your emotions (stress, anxiety, worry, excitement etc) also controls your menstrual cycle, so if you are getting very wound up it may affect your ovulation. So the more you can chill out, the better. What we have tried to do is plan something at least every couple of days to keep us busy, so we have something else to think about and look forward to. Such as, Cinema, meeting with friends, dinner party, staying with relatives / friends for the weekend, going for really nice walk. You get the picture! i don't know if this would help you? It is so hard though when you want something sooooo much!

Morning all,

Had a good night last night

Yesterday morning I did an OV test and it came back negative. In the afternoon when I noticed that I had some EW I retested and and was it came back positive. If I don't get my BFP this month I won't use the OV test next month as I know now that I'm in tune with my body.

beansprout · 05/01/2007 08:35

Ok, have been ttc for 7 months. Am 37 and it's recommended that you go along after 6 months. I also have a couple of concerns - the first one is that I have an erratic cycle (24-31 days) and secondly that I came off depo a year ago and I am concerned this has affected me in some way as there are some hideous stories out there about this form of contraception.

Although I know what my concerns are, I'm not 100% sure that I am going to ask the right questions and am concerned that I will get fobbed off (come back after a year or something). Can anyone advise?

I know this is still "early days" but I want to make sure I am working with the right info, IYSWIM.

beansprout · 05/01/2007 08:36

Sorry - I meant to start a new thread with my query! But if anyone can advise that would be great. Good luck to you all for this month!!

MrsBeee · 05/01/2007 09:34

Depo is very good contraception and it does ruin or impair fertility long term, it just delays it, but not in a harmful way. I think you need to get some baseline bloods taken to find out if / when you are ovulating as that is the most important thing when you have an irregular cycle.

I don't think your GP will fob you off at 37 and TTC for 7 months, but I would make pains to stress that you have been trying at the correct times of the month, having sex frequently, etc. Lots of people say there are TTC but then are hardly having sex or having sex at the wrong time, and in this case GP's would tell you to go away and try harder for another 6 months!

Good luck today x

honeyapple · 05/01/2007 09:38

Hi Beansprout,
Well, you could be a little bit imaginative with the truth and tell DR you've been TTC for 12 months... might help to speed up any referals.
If you are worried about having not yet conceived, then I think you should approach the DR. Although 37 is not old, you probably feel you don't want to waste time if there is a fertility issue.
Write down as many of your past AF dates as you can remember to take with you- and tell DR that you have been TTC at the right times/ enough times. Often DR will say couples do not have enough sex.

I know that you sometimes need to be quite pushy with DRs, even if this is not in your nature. Good Luck.

More BDing last night! DP still UP for it ().

WinniethePooh · 05/01/2007 10:04

Got into bed last night and kissed DP. His response was "why you jumping on me now, when you have not done that for about a week"

I replied "I was on "

End result = shared a bath and plenty BDing.

honeyapple · 05/01/2007 10:07

That sounds like fun Winnie!

WinniethePooh · 05/01/2007 10:10

It was

Fingerscrossed2007 · 05/01/2007 12:29

Just booked some time away in a hotel during prime BD time as a surprise for DP very pleased with self. That means that even if we don't get a nice surprise I should have some fun memories of this month!

robutussin
On previous post I mentioned some stuff I read about cervical mucus and robutussin. Here is the source. There are two tpyes of the mixtrure and if you use it you have to get the one withthe right active ingredient (which can also be used by pregnant women)

beansprout · 05/01/2007 12:34

Thanks for the responses Mrs Beee and honey (!), v good advice. I have all my cycle dates and can talk about EWCM etc to demonstrate that we have been trying. I know that, but the GP does not, so it's good advice to show that we are serious about this!
