Short Luteal Phase

mascaraisamust · 05/07/2015 22:57

So after 6 months of ttc I've worked out I've got a short luteal phase of 9 days, however it could be even less. I get a positive opk on day 19 and 9 days later AF appears. I'm fearing it could be less that 9 days if I ovulate 24-36 hours after a postive opk. No suprises that there hasn't been a bfp yet. I'm thinking this is my obstacle. Seems I've tried everything else. Do I go to my GP? Is there any point? On preconception vitamins with b6 in and have been in them for three months and no changes. Also AF is really painful every month, wondering if there is more to this. Any ideas? Or anyone experienced/ing similar?

If only my cycles weren't so short, like 23/24 days, I get so many AF's. I have been taking the cough syrup this month and think it has helped, and now I'm just waiting with my pineapple ready to get my temp rise.

What is the baking soda finger method?

Mascara, you never know, this could still be your month esp as you are ovulating again. Fx for you x

Sunshinegirl2015 · 03/10/2015 12:17

Not sure have never tried it but read that if you wet your finger with water and dip it in baking soda and then insert a little way in the vagina being careful not to touch cervix, that it neutralises the ph balance or makes it more alkaline which sperm favour.

It's supposed to produce more CF too but I've never tried it. Thought it can't hurt, did some googling and there's success stories.

Will try anything once haha.

mrsmugoo · 03/10/2015 12:36

All good here. Getting clean wipes now, no spotting and still strong positives on the tests (obviously have being POASing like a maniac!)

I seem to be completely symptom free except for a slight metallic taste in my mouth, although I'm not sure if I'm imagining it because I'm so desperate to have a symptom!

I know it's naughty but I've bought 2 clearblue digis to test next week to see if I've progressed on the number of weeks.

mascaraisamust · 03/10/2015 19:22

Haha Mrs everything you told me not to do your doing!

I know (hangs head in shame)

mascaraisamust · 03/10/2015 21:20

Mrs there is no harm in it! Glad you're doing well.

Well I've truly overindulged over my birthday, wined and dined for two weeks now back on the diet tomorrow!

Sunshine if nothing happens this month I'll get some preseed again as I think the ph balance thing has a lot to do with it. So I think there is some logic there!

OP posts:
sunshinegirl12 · 03/10/2015 22:30

Mascara, just wondering, were u using preseed the month you got ur BFP? I've been alternating between that and conceive plus.

Sunshine, i haven't read about the baking soda method before, when would you do it? Just before DTD? x

mascaraisamust · 04/10/2015 08:43

Yeah Sunshine the month I got my bfp. Maybe it was coincidence but can't do any harm.

How is everyone getting on? Mascara, glad you had a good bday weekend.

Flymo, did AF arrive? Fx it stayed away.

I got my temp rise this morning, but then for some strange reason I did an OPK and it was positive, so I'm not sure whats going on. I haven't DTD as much as I should've as wasn't feeling 100% this weekend, only Fri night and Sun morning, so I'm not hopeful this month x

Sanch1 · 05/10/2015 09:42

Morning!

Glad you had a good birthday mascara, lets hope this is your month.

Mrs, good to see things are going the right way.

Nothing much to report here, CD32 no sign of ovulation. Although my chart doesnt show a distinct temp rise the latest ones are higher but not that high? if that makes sense? Anyway fertility friend hastn registered ovulation.

mrsmugoo · 05/10/2015 10:48

CBD is saying 2-3 weeks Smile

mascaraisamust · 05/10/2015 19:43

Yay mrs Smile

Sanch how frustrating for you. Dtd eod seems like the only option when you can't pinpoint it but when you have long cycles that's easier said than done!

Sunshine never say never. But at least you can chill out this month!

5dpo nothing really to report, the wait continues. Usually sore after ovulation but it hasn't happened. Lot of thick cm though. I think AF would be here Saturday latest if I have a short LP. Anything could happen!

Thats good news Mrs.

Fingers crossed for you Mascara.

I've been getting pinching pains that I usually get during ovulation, so I think I've ovulated today, and maybe the temp rise was just an anomoly. I did another OPK this evening and this time negative. Hmm

mascaraisamust · 05/10/2015 20:18

Hmm dtd if you can tonight sunshine?!

I'm not overly hopeful for a BFP this month but at least things are going in the right direction. Anything else is a bonus.

Mrs tips for private consultation Wednesday?

mrsmugoo · 05/10/2015 20:52

What I said was

  • I wasn't there because of length of time not conceiving as 8 months is well within normal bracket of time to not conceive
  • however I had carefully tracked my cycles and with opk, temping and CM data I was confident I was detecting ovulation correctly but getting my period a week to 8 days later consistently for 9 cycles
  • I was aware that a short luteal phase did not mean pregnancy necessarily impossible but that it would seriously hamper my chances and with my age (I'm 35) I wanted to do anything in my power to remove any obstacles.
-I didn't want to just roll with it and leave it to chance as I have another child and the age gap is factor for me.

He 100% on board with me from the get-go and the only thing he did say to me was that I should stop 5:2 dieting (which I had anyway) as that was not going to help me.

I really hope my 5:2 dieting wasn't the underlying cause of my LPD but the month I got my BFP I had been super relaxed (but healthy) with my eating and I ovulated on day 15 which is very early for me! So I could have gone on to have a natural 12 day luteal phase? We'll never know ( hopefully)

I'm not going to diss the 5:2 diet though, I lost 28lb on it and went from a 12 to an 8 and to my pre- pregnancy size. I always said I would reach pre-preg weight before getting preg again!

mascaraisamust · 05/10/2015 21:54

Thanks Mrs, that's helpful. It'll be interesting to compare the two experiences and this is the first appointment DH will be with me.

I'm back on my 'health kick' (trying not to call it a diet). Cut out drink as it's the tww anyway so that's one thing. I'm a size 12 currently, I used to be a 8/10. Since I've been off the pill it's piled on Hmm

I don't eat badly generally, I've just had lots of birthday treats with going out for meals and such - I ate out all 5/7 last week Blush at least the kitchen was clean

Mrs hope the pregnancy is going well so far!

mascara where are you in your cycle?

I'm on day 3 of my luteal phase. Didn't try the baking soda thing in the end as had a temp shift.

Took a very relaxed approached this month, ate what I wanted and drank coffee everyday (I do love coffee and have been treating myself to one only on the weekend), didn't opk but I didn't notice any CM either. I was waiting to see some either in undies or on tissue.

Ovulated on day 18 again like last month (before taking EPO I always ovulated on day 20) so will be interesting to see what LP is this month (so far it's been 9 then 10 and last month 11 days!).

Really want BFP this month (well I want it every month) but next month DH is abroad for work the week I'm due to ovulate so next month we won't be in with a chance :(

Sanch1 · 06/10/2015 12:07

Mrs, I was just wondering, given you already have one child, what your experience was TTC the first time? How long it took? Same issues as now?

I just cant believe I could have DTD once the first month of TTC and get a BFP last time, to be having such weird stuff going on now!

mrsmugoo · 06/10/2015 12:08

Fingers crossed for you sunshine

Yep everything going fine so far, no symptoms to speak of but time is going sooooooo slooooooowly.

I think I will be getting an early scan as my doctor at the clinic apparently recommends them for all his patients. Makes sense given that I'm on progesterone.

I'll be a lot happier once I've had that and seen its all real. Still half feel like I'm making it all up!

KittyandTeal · 06/10/2015 14:30

Hi all. I hope you don't mind me asking some more questions, you were so helpful last time.

I seem to be on the boarderline of slp. My LP is around 10 days although I generally spot for a day or two before af arrives (does that mean my progesterone has dropped already) last months LP was 8 days before a temp dip on day 9 and af turned up later that day.

I have a gp appointment tmrw. We've only been trying for 6 cycles but I am on a time limit. My last pregnancy we lost dd2 at 22 weeks to a chromosomal abnormality. We have been told it was chance and bad luck which I understand, however, my risk of it happening again has gone up and rockets once I get to 35. I am 34 in a month.

I feel like if there is an issue with my cycle I need to get it looked into and sorted fairly soon to give us a chance of getting pregnant before I'm 35 (this is my deadline, after this I cannot risk it, it would be a 1:100 chance of a trisomy)

My question, after that long winded post, is what do I say to the doc to get my point across? I am fully expecting to be shooed off and told there is no problem with a 10 day LP and to come back once I've been trying for a year.

mrsmugoo · 06/10/2015 14:43

Kitty - that is exactly what they will tell you! Either lie about how long you've been trying or lie about your LP (tell them it's even shorter) or do what I did and go private. It's honestly the best money I've ever spent.

Sanch1 · 06/10/2015 14:53

I'd lie. I wish I lied when I first saw by GP about non- return of periods after the pill. Now he knows how long we've been trying and I can't get around that now.

Mrs, how did you go about finding a private specialist and what was the cost? Do they charge you on top for tests etc

Sanch1 · 06/10/2015 14:54

Kitty, I'm also 34 next month and feel exactly the same as you in terms of increased risk. I really dont want to concieve once I'm 35, and dont know what happens if it takes that long :-(

mrsmugoo · 06/10/2015 15:28

I was recommended by a friend but it's at the main private hospital where I live.

I got charged a fee for the consultation, a fee for the ultrasound and obviously a private prescription for 2 months worth of cyclogest pessaries.

I haven't actually had any other treatments but yes I think you get charged individually for bloods etc...

mrsmugoo · 06/10/2015 15:29

By the way, I'm 35. The risk doesn't magically go through the ceiling the morning of your 35th birthday!
