Short Luteal Phase

mascaraisamust · 05/07/2015 22:57

So after 6 months of ttc I've worked out I've got a short luteal phase of 9 days, however it could be even less. I get a positive opk on day 19 and 9 days later AF appears. I'm fearing it could be less that 9 days if I ovulate 24-36 hours after a postive opk. No suprises that there hasn't been a bfp yet. I'm thinking this is my obstacle. Seems I've tried everything else. Do I go to my GP? Is there any point? On preconception vitamins with b6 in and have been in them for three months and no changes. Also AF is really painful every month, wondering if there is more to this. Any ideas? Or anyone experienced/ing similar?

I'm thinking of buying that book too, did you find it helpful? x

Sunshinegirl2015 · 18/08/2015 18:37

Yeah I read the whole thing in a few days and feel like I understand what's happening in my body more now.

Going to try the ttc method this month. It relays heavily on fertile signs such as cm and the feel down there as well as position of cervix and temps but it explains so much so I feel I am armed to tackle this month even better.

sunshinegirl12 · 18/08/2015 19:05

Oh I haven't heard of that before, I'll have to get the book so I can get myself clued up x

mrsmugoo · 20/08/2015 07:37

Cd16 and still a circle on the clearblue opk.
Not looking good Confused

Sunshinegirl2015 · 20/08/2015 11:45

mrs do you track CM? Have you been stressed recently? Your body can temporarily put a hold on ovulation if you're stressed (both physiological and psychological stress) - perhaps it could be that? Then you may ovulate later than usual. Feel like a sales person for this book but it explains in more detail how stress can affect the 'hypothalamus' gland which is responsible for a lot of the reproductive system.

Tracking your CM can help you know if your body is getting ready to ovulate.

Good luck x

mrsmugoo · 20/08/2015 12:21

Yeah I've read that book.
I do track CM, it's sticky atm.

I think I'm permanently stressed tbh! My husband runs his own business which I also work for as office manager so we do bring a lot of work politics and stress home, even though we try not to! My husband works every waking second of every single day - no exaggeration! It's not exactly conducive to TTC on a lot of levels!

mascaraisamust · 20/08/2015 13:02

Hey ladies! Mrs it's no good being stressed, I think that was my problem too at times as DH kept telling me to chill out a bit (easier said than done)! Maybe your tent break will be a good thing?!

Sunshine you sound like a wealth of knowledge!

sunshinegirl12 · 20/08/2015 13:49

I don't know how to stop getting stressed, the more I focus on trying to stay calm the more it seems to stress me out that i'm getting stressed, although my situation doesn't sound anywhere near as stressful as yours Mrs.

I had a positive OPK on tuesday and this morning my temperature had gone up, so assume I ovulated yesterday. But didn't really have the usual ovulation twinges or same amount of CM (barely nothing) so just got a feeling this isn't my month. Gona get back on the B Vits tonight just incase, do you think its worth me DTD tonight one more time?

Mascara, how are you feeling now? x

mascaraisamust · 20/08/2015 16:53

Sunshine I would do it tonight and tomorrow. Dont presume that your out. Our bodies do strange things... I felt the only thing that de-stressed me slightly was keeping busy! I was considering taking up yoga/Pilates before I conceived too.

Pretty symptomless here! 2-3 weeks on the CB (conception date). I'm supposed to be just over 6 weeks now (from last missed AF). I'm really envious of people that have symptoms as at least they are reminded they are pregnant. Waiting patiently for the nausea to set it (then I'll probably wish it wasn't here).

Sunshinegirl2015 · 20/08/2015 17:35

Oh mrs sounds like you need a break! I hope you get a positive opk soon.

sunshine I would dtd you never know!

Mascara every month I get a BFN I end up learning even more. I'll be a walking encyclopaedia by the time I get my BFP ;)

I know what you mean about symptoms - I've said to DH I would love to be sick from being pregnant as I'd be pregnant! I look forward to the symptoms. Bet I won't be saying that when I'm throwing up haha.

mascaraisamust · 20/08/2015 18:25

I know, nobody gets it! Threads keep saying 'I'm so lucky'... No, I'm terrified to why you all are and I'm not!

DH did say I could write a book, you can see why people do!!

Hi everyone
I hope you don't mind messaging. I found your post when I was searching for other women that had short luteal phases. I am 36 and TTC no. 1. We've been trying since November and since charting I had noticed that whilst my cycles varied, every month my luteal phase was 9 days. I had read that this would mean it was hard to conceive and because I read your post I booked an appointment to see the doctor today.

Crazy as it seems I became pregnant this cycle, confirmed by 3 tests, I found out yesterday so no trip to the doctor required. My husband has a look of a startled rabbit right now!

I wanted to write to say thanks for giving me moral support when I was struggling and also to say that it actually seems that a short phase might not mean you are out of luck entirely.

In terms of what worked for us...we charted and knew exactly when the peak time was (EWCM and OPK) and we DTD every day for the 3 days leading up and a bit every other day before. Embarrassingly exhausting :)

We're hoping we're lucky and things go well but also happy that we can conceive.

Good luck everyone!

mascaraisamust · 20/08/2015 18:43

Hi luceean! Congratulations!! Thanks for your comments, it's really nice to know that chatting away is helping others. When are you due? You can't be two far behind me. How far gone are you? Congrats again!

We are going away this weekend for DH's bday so I'm going to relax and have a few glasses of bubbly, and hopefully even DTD for fun rather than feeling we have to x

luceeann · 20/08/2015 18:54

Hi Mascara. Many thanks. It is really nice to be able to tell someone! I am 4 weeks pregnant so only just really. How about yourself?

sunshinegirl12 · 20/08/2015 18:57

Congrats Luceean, and thanks for posting. It's so nice to hear another positive story to give us all more hope, I hope everything goes well for you x

SharyBobbins · 20/08/2015 19:19

Congratulations luceeann, its always nice to hear when others get their BFP, gives me hope!

Sunshines- I keep getting confused when you both post! I'm not sure who asked the question but defiantly have sex tonight!

I've bought the 'taking charge' book but I'm avoiding it at the moment simply because it's not telling me what I want to hear (eg. that a 43 day cycle is perfectly normal and doesn't indicate an underlying health issue Wink ). It defiantly looks like a useful read, I'm just going to wait for a few more days to pick it back up again. Does anyone else have days where they feel focused & positive about TTC followed by others where you feel really down & negative about the whole thing? I'm having a sulk today!

Not much to report here, day 21 now and did a test on my (cheated) CBAFM this morning. Got a high after my low yesterday. Did a cheapy OPK this afternoon too and got the darkest line I've seen yet. Hopefully that means things are on the up.

Hope everyone is okay xx

mascaraisamust · 20/08/2015 19:19

Sunshine that sounds ideal. I'm away from this weekend too. Can't wait.

Luceean supposedly 6+4 from LMP but I think I'm more like 5 weeks going from conception as I think I might have ovulated later this cycle. I've got my booking in appointment already which a week on Monday and I've got an early private scan which is a week on Thurs as I can't quite believe it and need a bit of reassurance. Only found out last week myself, total surprise.

mascaraisamust · 20/08/2015 19:24

Shary that's fab about the opk. Hopefully an egg will be there in the next 24 hours, fingers crossed! Catch it!

It's normal to have up and down days. Down days were after AF and up days in the fertile periods and then just worry after that. It's not easy people telling you to keep positive, don't stress and it'll happen. Just take it as it comes, you're doing all you can and I am no doubt that your time will come very soon! Oh and keep busy!!

SharyBobbins · 20/08/2015 19:52

Hi Mascara! I'd love to ovulate in the next few days because it would mean my cycle is shorter this time round but I think that's at least a week off yet unfortunately! Bloody 43 day cycles mean every stage takes forever! Nevertheless we're doing the necessary every other day and will increase to everyday once the monitor says peak & the OPK line is as dark as the control one. Luckily DH has no complaints! My best friend keeps telling me 'be positive' & 'it'll happen for you soon'. I know she means well but she's never had any issues conceiving so as much as she tries I don't think she will ever fully understand. I never thought I'd take solace in a forum but this place is a such a big help full of women who truly get it x

luceeann · 20/08/2015 20:48

Thanks Shary and Sunshine.

It is amazing how different all our bodies are and also how much they vary month on month. I agree that hearing from everyone really helps.

Try not to run out of steam DTD before you get the peak Shary. It is great your OH is taking it in his stride. I really thought my hubby would not be into it or feel the pressure, but he was a very diligent man :) (whilst breathing sigh of relief now that he can relax a bit). Speaking of which he is out boozing tonight and I am eating cake on the sofa. How life has changed already!

Mascara - good luck for the scan, but try to relax and enjoy. I agree it is weird. I have no real symptoms, though I did clearly have implantation spotting on DPO 6-8 and then nothing which gave me the hint it might have happened. I keep checking my temp too to see if it is staying high.

sunshinegirl12 · 20/08/2015 20:53

That sounds positive Shary, are you still temping?

So I got my first temp rise this morning, am I right in thinking it should stay high but then drop just before AF arrives? (Or hopefully stays away) I'm not really sure what to look out for now x

KERALA1 · 20/08/2015 20:59

I had this but never went into the detail with temperatures etc. my tip is to have sex during your period (tmi sorry). We ttc for 9 months mid cycle - nothing- then read something on line and dtd at the end of my period - pregnant. Have two gorgeous dds now. Good luck all

luceeann · 20/08/2015 21:00

Hey Sunshine.
My temp used to come down but sometimes I didn't spot it until after AF arrives. I think if you get 4-5 high temps that are higher than the previous 5 days then you can pin point that first rise as the day after you ovulated.
