We've been ttc for 3 years. 3 failed rounds of ivf. And now this. I'm sure I'll miscarry - I'm bound to, or is it a false positive?
I'm two days late. It was immediate.

Is there a line? False positive?

Thanks!
Have been on edge all day. Even though I'm 'only' 32 dh is 40 and supposedly if the father is over 40 it increases miscarriagr risk by 60%. So from around an average of 20% it puts my risk at nearer 40%. Not great.
I need to back away from google. I know I can't do anything about it but I just think this might be our only chance. If this one doesn't make it that's it for us.

Definitely step away from Google and try to focus on the fact that right now you are pregnant and most people have uneventful pregnancies. ( we all tend to write about less ordinary things on here!)
I was around 40 for both my DC and DH older ( with sperm issues!) and I scared myself witless initially but all was well.
I did so much worrying in the early weeks too am sure it's normal.
It is a shock for you and takes a while to sink in for anyone!
You an always pay for a private scan at 7 ish weeks if you can't bear the suspense til 12.
Honestly Mother Nature is a maniac - she really does do stuff like this to people who have given up hope. Grin

LOVE this news! Congratulations, this bought a tear to my eye, I'm so pleased for you. Smile

Congratulations :)

Just popping back to say thank you again for all the lovely messages. I've reread them and digested them now.
Have taken another (five) pregnancy test and trying to take it one day at a time but it's going so slowly. The last 48 hours have lasted at least a month it feels!
Anyway I know there's nothing I can do expect keep my fingers crossed, I'm not sure if that makes me feel better or worse though to be honest...

Thanks again x x

You need to get use to the wait though as depending on the system in your area, you won't book in with the MW until 8wks at the earliest or up to 11/12wks for some women. However, in your situation I would request an early booking in appointment. I did last time due to severe sickness from about 5wks so booked in at 5.5wks before being bedridden by 6wks. I'm sure they'll try and accommodate you. Some areas offer early scans around 6wks to women who have undergone fertility treatment.

Oh and now is the time to think about what you want to do around 12wks. Are you keen for full and thorough testing for things like DS. If so, check what's offered in your area. If just a basic scan you may want to look at a private nuchal scan plus bloods to give you the most accurate nt results. If in or near London then there's nowhere better or cheaper really than the FMC.
The other option is the new Harmony test. Blood drawn from you at 10wks. Chromosome analysis and results to you around 11.5/12wks. By far the most accurate non invasive test on the market. It's around 99.5% accurate and can also tell you the sex if you want. It's not cheap though but again, cheaper at the FMC.

If you chose a private scan, make sure you book a diagnostic clinic such as at a private hospital or clinic with trained sonographers. A good way of telling is if they also offer a private 20wk anomaly scan. Clinics who do this are qualified.

ItsNotAsPerfectAsItSeems · 04/06/2015 22:08

Just to clarify, the extent of testing is entirely your choice. But if you do want everything going then best to investigate it now.

SweetCharlotteRose · 05/06/2015 20:27

Hi everyone
Just to update I took another clearblue digital and my weeks have reduced so it doesn't look positive and google leads me to believe it isn't great.
I'm more miserable now than if I'd just never been pregnant.
This is the end of the line. I can't keep putting myself through this.

nottheOP · 05/06/2015 20:34

It's not always bad op, your urine may just be less concentrated than it was last time you tested with a clear blue

nottheOP · 05/06/2015 20:35

Fingers crossed for you x

Rudawakening · 05/06/2015 20:36

sweet it does not mean that things are going wrong, digital tests are the work of the devil along with Google. Most people only post on forums when things go wrong so you dont get a clear picture of the people where it didn't go wrong.

Rings the EPU explain your history and see what they advise, although at 4 weeks there won't be a lot to see on the scan.

I know it's hard but try and stay positive.

Rudawakening · 05/06/2015 20:38

Also my first test I took a first response, the line was really dark, then I tested 3 days later and the line was fainter. Like you I thought that was it, but I had my 12 week scan this week and baby is healthy and fine. Tests only really tell you that your pregnant and that's it.

SweetCharlotteRose · 05/06/2015 20:51

How do I contact the EPU? Will they be there over the weekend? I just cannot cope with this, I feel like in going to have some sort of breakdown. Maybe I'm just weak but I honestly feel like this will break me.
We were due to have more fertility treatment and all this will have done is raise our hopes and then cruelly dash them and then throw out our fertility treatment timings.

I should be 5 weeks on Saturday.
Clearblue should definitely be showing 2-3 and not reduced to 1-2

OP posts:
seastargirl · 05/06/2015 20:53

Just to let you know, I did a clear blue that put me as earlier than the first clear blue test had put me, I thought it was bad news, but the outcome of that test is sleeping happily upstairs. I hope your little one sticks

nottheOP · 05/06/2015 21:04

www.earlypregnancy.org.uk/FindUsMap.asp

They mostly seem to be a Monday to Friday operation but there are a couple open on a Saturday morning

SweetCharlotteRose · 05/06/2015 21:07

Thanks

Looks like I will have to wait until Monday.
Someone up there really REALLY hates me.

Oysterbabe · 05/06/2015 21:09

Charlotte maybe you've just had more water this time. Don't give up.

Rudawakening · 05/06/2015 21:14

Don't give up, nothing is confirmed yet. I know the waiting is hard but you've got to think positively, you're pregnant against massive odds.

If you can afford it you could call some local private clinics for a same day early scan, I think where I am they are £150-£200 but if you can't wait until Monday it's another option.

SweetCharlotteRose · 05/06/2015 21:20

Would they see anything at not quite 5 weeks though or could it just be inconclusive and id have to go back?

OP posts:
Rudawakening · 05/06/2015 21:27

I think at 5 weeks they would be able to see a yoke sac and possible fetal pole. The main thing would be that the sac is in the right place and not slipping or anything.

No scan or test can ever tell you that things will be fine going forward but it might help right now to see what's happening.

The only thing that might be an issue is if you ovulated later than you thought and so aren't as far along as you think, then it might worry you more. I chose not to have an early scan for exactly that reason but only you know how much you would worry in either scenario.

SweetCharlotteRose · 06/06/2015 04:46

Ok so I've been awake nearly all night worrying but I've tested this morning and 2-3 again (I'm 4+5 or 6 so I guess this is about right?)
And I can't think it would fall then rise again?

Apparently between weeks 2 and 3 only 75% of women get the correct result so 1 in 4 will not.

OP posts:
lavendersun · 06/06/2015 05:58

Congratulations SweetCharlotteRose - I wish you all the luck in the world. I remember the awful worrying (not IVF but repeated miscarriages, for which there was an identified cause).

I wish there was a magic 'worry not' pill I could send you. Flowers

OhEmGeee · 06/06/2015 07:42

I never found the clear blue digital tests very accurate. And it does depend on the time of day you test, first wee of the day is always best. I had a scan at 5 weeks and saw a sac but not much else. Went back ten days later and there was a hb.

Congratulations btw! Flowers

nottheOP · 06/06/2015 07:45

That does seem to follow that your wee was just less concentrated last night. Do try to stop testing now though as it's honestly just more stress than its worth.

my friend had a scan at 7 weeks at an early unit and she could see a blob with a heartbeat. I had a dating scan at 9+4 and it was more baby shaped.

It was about 6 weeks before I got any symptoms but was then quite sick and tired until 16 weeks. It's quite an odd time again between when the sickness goes until you're showing and feeling proper kicks. I was convinced there was going to be no baby at the 20 week scan!

Basically you never stop worrying for them but it does ease a bit.
