Just wondered if anyone else is like me and DH and have been thinking about baby names?? We can't agree on girls, but boys we find easy... we could have a bunch of boys and agree on every name!!

I know I shouldn't be thinking of names when I am not even pg, but I can't help myself!!Anyone got any cool name ideas?? Promise I won't steal any of them I'd love to hear what other people are thinking... or am I the only one mental enough to think this far ahead??

Greedy, a friend of mine's little boy is called Ellis. Cute. And Kiki is just a pretty girly name!! I bet your dc are gorgeous!

LargeG&T - Had to laugh at your list... I thought "Oscar Scarlett?? What the?? Oh I see"

From the list on the link I posted (yay me!) I love:
Olivia (DH likes)
Chloe (DH fave but are there too many??)
Sophie (DH no)
Grace (DH likes, but concerned it is an OLN?)
Mia (DH says too continental for our surname)
Freya (DH says FreyaBentos )
Amber (DH says v. footballers wives)
Scarlett and Sienna are my faves (DH FIRM NO )

you will end up with twins ready! sienna and scarlett! you are a woman.....we ALWAYS get what we want!
and dont tell me you know another ellis! i wanted it to be unusual and APPARENTLY that old slapper from eastenders (think it was just her character!) called her daughter Kiki too. how dare she copy me!

Natty1806 · 14/11/2006 15:34

Yeah that's right Charlie Brooks daughter is called Kiki someone i know is called Devon Ellis.

MrsMcJnr · 14/11/2006 15:38

Good link Ready . Seeing as your DH is a footballer I guess anything from "Footballer's Wives" is banned! No Chardonnay's in your house then? Joking apart, DH quite likes Merlot for a boy - I don't think I'm brave enough for that!

Have to say, I do like some of the other names posted and I hope you don't mind any of you, I have added the following to my list:

Ava
Innes
Aidan
Luke
Ethan
Austin
Oliver
Anthony
Alisdair

Greedy - I like your names. Sorry to say, I do know an Ellis but he is my age. Don't worry can't call my kid Ellis as it's my Aunt's surname. How do you pronounce Serien?

Largeginandtonic - can I not just call my kid that?! I was a bit worried when I saw your names, thought poor Wilbur (and I like that name, remember the very noble piglet in Charlotte's Web?) would be slagged at school for having a girl's middle name! An old boss had a son called Monty but he was Montifiere or something like that - they also had a Crosspatrick and a Lucretia!

I went to school with a lot of Chinese and as the kids themselves often got to choose their British names there were some absolute classics - Cinderella and Sunshine being two that spring to mind!

Also, an adoption I did once, the kids, 5 and 7 or something had bad names and the parents wanted to change them so they asked the little boy what he'd like his name to be, he said Buzz - so, so cute!

ready4motherhood · 14/11/2006 15:55

Greedy - Sorry about the Ellis I know but 2 is still rare!!

MrsMc - Exactly, no Ambers, Chardonnays, Shannons, Tanyas - you get the idea
I love Aidan by the way!!
Oh and used to work with a really cute Scottish fella called Alisdair and I used to comment on the spelling all the time (sure I did his head in!)

This thread has prompted much conversation in our house... but DH is very firm with his dislikes I don't think I will get my own way I tried the "I will have been through all that agony, I should get a name I want" He just laughed and said "I don't think so!"

ready4motherhood · 14/11/2006 15:56

Not sure about Merlot... sorry. Lovely word. Just not sure if it works as a name.

MrsMcJnr · 14/11/2006 15:58

PMSL exactly - very nicely put! I'm just lucky that DH hasn't started on girls' names - they'd be Chenin and Semillion no doubt!

PizPizPiz · 14/11/2006 15:58

skytvaddict, my daughter's called Elise . For #2 we're thinking about Olivia or Gabriel. But our list is till open !

Peridot30 · 14/11/2006 16:30

My niece and son have very unusual names and when brothers wife and myself were pregnant the 2nd time my gran used to joke about what unusual names could be next.

I like names that are a bit unusual.

Liking Rhiannon for a girl and Finn or Harrison for a boy. Boys are much easier to choose

ready4motherhood · 14/11/2006 17:37

ooooh liking Rhiannon. Is it Welsh??

PMSL @ Chenin... how about Vouvray???

OP posts:
greedyguzzler · 14/11/2006 17:52

hey mrsmcjnr - you are classy! merlot, semillion, chenin!........if it was my baby it would be called ' cheap box of red!'

twelveyeargap · 14/11/2006 18:31

I booked a Eurostar ticket for a french guy in my company and his family. His baby girl was called Margaux.

comebacksummer · 14/11/2006 18:40

ooh, keep listing everyone... am preg with no 3, have 2 girls and find girls' names easy, no idea for boys though- need inspiration!!

comebacksummer · 14/11/2006 18:42

love that - had a french friend with a daughter Manon- absolutely my fave's girls name but DH wouldn't even consider it.. we don't agree so both dds' names were the first on our individual top 20's that coincided Iyswim

comebacksummer · 14/11/2006 18:43

sorry typo.. fave girl's name I meant to write.. sigh

megandsoph · 14/11/2006 18:47

Well I know people will larf at the name I want if I have a boy, but I LOVE it and think it's quite retro and also its my dads name.

Douglas-Jack

And for a girl

Ava
Bethany
Brianey
Emma
Natalie
Rose

Why is it that girls names seem to be much easier to chose or is that just me??

megandsoph · 14/11/2006 18:48

comeback summer in exactaly the same boat hence nicking my dad and grandads name for a boy hehehe

honeyapple · 14/11/2006 19:14

when i was pregnant with my DD, we lived very near to a lovely old cemetery- we used to go for walks there and get the ideas for names from the gravestones! We had a few names, but only decided which one when we had a first look at her. And Matilda was the one. And my DS chose her middle name- Honey, because it was sweet, like her

Bodkin · 14/11/2006 19:32

Minor hijack alert... One mistake we made when naming DD was using our 2 favourite names for her first and middle name. Now we're wishing we had saved the middle name (Rose) in case we have another girl!

Frenchsmallfry · 14/11/2006 19:36

Comebacksummer, Manon is a very popular French name, but it is unisex. Very often used for a boy.

Peridot30 Harrison is the best boys name. Hehe only joking, I am just bias. My ds is Harrison Jacob

largeginandtonic · 14/11/2006 21:08

Glad you posted your names greedy, they are lovely. I felt like id exposed myself too once i ahd released names, keep looking at people in thr playground suspiciously! LOL

Ready is it your Dh who has to get fat get stretchmarks, not drink, eat pate, cheese, liver etc etc for 9 months and then get to scream in agony (40 mins if your me, hee, hee) for 10 hours and push something the size of a watermelon out of something the size of a lemon....no? Hmmmmm, i think we should get the bigger say dont you

MrsMc i love the name Merlot Dh would too, he is a wine fanatic. You could have a Jacobs Creek?

TYG i love the name Margaux its sooo cute, may add it to my list.

Peridot30 · 14/11/2006 21:56
