TTC First Time - Anyone else?

My husband and I are TTC! I have been off the pill for a month now and have started taking folic acid and calcium with vit D to ensure if anything does happen I'm as healthy as possible. Limiting caffeine and alcohol but not cutting it out completely as you never know how long it will take! All my friends have just fallen pregnant really easily, but I have a feeling this will not be the case for me. I can't remember when my last period was either which is annoying as will need to wait for the next one before I can chart etc. Hmm Is anyone else out there TTC now? We could all share our stories and encourage each other! Smile

Thanks everyone! I'm still in denial I think, can't quite believe it. Fear has also set in (along with morning sickness).

Gem- I initially tested 10 days post ov with FRER and had the faintest of lines...thought it was an evaporation line and didn't think it was a BFP . Tested again Yesterday and the line was still faint but much clearer. Today line is darker.

I really didn't think it would happen so quick for us as we are both 40 yes old.

MrsVonBlack I gave in and POAS last night which was really silly as I was only 8-10 dpo and it obviously wasn't fmu! Wish I had some willpower. Determined to wait until Friday now if AF doesn't appear before then.

Gemerama my DH had a semen analysis a few weeks ago and all was fine. We're on cycle 7 and he wanted to put his mind at rest - fx your DH doesn't have to go though!

Now I have got it out of my system I think I will be ok Smile AF would normally be due today but have been up to 4 days late since we started ttc....sucks!

KelseyandAdam · 09/07/2014 16:33

Hey ladies so nice to share some stories! I have just found out I'm 4 weeks pregnant!!! Can't believe it we only just started trying! I knew pretty much straight away - very in turn with my body and I was getting a few pregnancy related symptoms like tiredness and sickness, sore boons etc! I managed to hold on to do a test until the day after my period was due. That's the only bit of advice I would give really as it can drive you insane if you keep getting negative results if you test too early! Best of luck everyone xxx

spudnik1 · 09/07/2014 17:42

Congrats Durham!

Gemerama, sounds like a plan, i think we'll play it by ear for the first few months, then up it to using opk but i just have a vision in my head of me tackling OH when he gets in from work 'Now now i am ovulating now' and him looking like a scared rabbit.

DurhamRed · 09/07/2014 21:12

Thanks Spudnik :-)

Me and my OH used opk last month and this month, as long as you DTD just before and within 36 hours of the LH surge you should be fine.

I think my initial mistake was believing that the LH surge was the day I ovulated, when in fact its 24 to 36 hours after the surge. So when I got the LH surge I told my oh we had a 36 hour window to DTD...this let him decide when he was in the mood in that time (less pressure on him to DTD asap!)

Strangely, this month we were both quite relaxed about it all, and felt it didn't matter if we didn't catch this month...we were even planning to take a break from TTC for 2 months as we are away in July and Aug.

The reason I tested early this month was I wanted to know early due to the plans we have...no drinking for me on hols (or eating either with the way my morning sickness is going)!

DurhamRed · 09/07/2014 21:14

Congratulations Kelsey! I feel for you with the sickness!

Gem, that's a bummer but at least you know where you are at, I always feel like yes, disappointment at the fact you get AF but then some of the girls are sitting there with no BFP and no AF, wondering what's happening.
Im the same, want to lose half a stone or so, also going to Alton towers mid august so hoping nothing happens for the next couple of months, though we aren't preventing it.
So I've been doing Tesco ultra slim shakes, however I ran out of milk and substituted the shakes for Doritos and popcorn over my birthday! I'm not cut out for diets :P

Hello everyone. Found this thread whilst trying for my first baby but finding all the acronyms being used really confusing. What do they all mean?? In particular "TTC", is it trying to conceive? What about some of the others being used?

Sashiems · 14/07/2014 09:15

My husband and i are TTC and I'm just so inpatient. Stopped Yasmin Thursday and now having my withdrawal bleed but the fact I've been on the pill since 16 (nearly 32 now) with only 6 month break when I was 20, I'm worried it'll take months if not year's to conceive. Good luck everyone

Sashiems · 14/07/2014 10:00

I've been on the pill that long to regulate my periods as they've always been painful and all over the place but the time has come and feel ready

DurhamRed · 14/07/2014 15:18

Hi Pyra and Sash.,

Pyra - just a sample of the abbreviation as are as follows:

TTC = Trying to concieve
AF = Aunt Flo (period)
EWCM = Egg white cervical mucus
TWW = Two week wait
DTD = Do/did the deed

Sash - Fingers crossed all goes well for you :-)

Hi everyone,

Pyra, there is a link to a list of the acronyms at the top of the page, I have to check it sometimes even after being on here for a few months.

AF arrived for me over the weekend so I am on to cycle 8 now (gutted that it is taking so long) on the plus side the acupuncture I have been having seems to have done some good as I only had slight cramping and didn't have to take pain killers for the first time since I can remember! I think I will be following your lead and concentrating on diet and cutting out the booze this month (have three social occasions but will take it easy) Gemerama. Have you thought about temping - works out cheaper than OPKs as you can get a thermometer off Amazon for around £5.00 though that only tells you when you have ovulated...

I would avoid temping then, makes me obsessive towards the end of the month checking to see if my temps drop (indicating impending AF!) so debating getting DH to hide it from me!
DTD every other day sounds like a great plan. We only ended up DTD 3 times last cycle so are raring to go this cycle Smile

DurhamRed · 15/07/2014 12:50

Hi Gem

Things are going OK so far, though am suffering from serious morning sickness (been signed off for 2 weeks to rest) and I'm currently having the feeling of jelly legs. Other than that all is good :-)

Have midwife appointment on 14th August and my dating scan is on the 4th Sept. My current EDD is 19th March...excited but very scared too!

Hello everyone. DH and I have decided now is the time Smile I took my last pill on Saturday and I'm going to start taking folic acid. Other than that we are just going to see what happens, don't want to get too obsessed just yet as I have a tendency to do that with things Grin Although I do need to get more clued up on cycles and the best time to DTD. Been on the pill for 11 years so I need to start understanding my body a bit more.

DurhamRed · 15/07/2014 15:22

Gem - definitely don't want to find out the sex, want it to be a surprise :-)

Phoenix860 · 16/07/2014 13:55

AF arrived today so we are now on Cycle 6 TTC#1 can I just check I am right in that when you get a positive OPK you have roughly a 36 hour window to conceive? We are DTD every other day during the week that I am expected to Ovulate. Does that sound about right?!
Sending positive thoughts to everyone TTC xx
