okay I hope I'm not treading on anyone's toes but as the proud owner of a July AF I'm posting early. Any seconders for a BFP filled August are very welcome.

Is my bday in August so fingers crossed. And by my calculations my ov this month should tie in with dh's 30th birthday.

so paws crossed

Not heard that about soya milk but did read that cows milk in large quantities can adversley affect fertility

WantAbabyNOW · 28/07/2006 11:35

Hi to all,

I hope you dont mind me posting on this thread. DH nad I have been ttc for 2 yrs or so. On day 61 or so. Dont really have anyone to talk to about this as most of my friends have new bubs or are already expecting and they dont seem to get it. Anyone else who isnt in that position that I know doesnt really seem to want to talk about any of this!!

I have been reading up on this website for some time now, mainly the clomid gang thread as am about to be prescribed clomid and am already on metformin. I am not up with all the lingo as live in Australia and have never heard of things like persona.. still not quite sure what that is!

wannaBe1974 · 28/07/2006 11:40

hi wantababyNow and welcome.

persona is basically an ovulation prediction machine. don't personally have one but from what I've read it predicts your fertile time of the month, basically you purchase ovulation sticks with it and insert them into the machine and it gives you an indication of when you are fertile. Trace or someone might be along later with better knowledge of it though.

good luck on the chlomid.

This is a lovely thread for support. there is everything on here, from those who have just started out to those who have been ttc for years. we've been ttc for baby no 2 for nearly 16 months now.

WantAbabyNOW · 28/07/2006 12:03

Hi Wanna,

Thanks for your reply. Someone pointed me in the direction of the persona website. It's not available here so I dont think I would have much chance of getting one. I do have a maybe baby though which is a saliva based microscope. I know some people who have been very lucky with it and were successful first go! We have had two lots of ferns and it is showing transitional stage now.. but I dont think I should get too hopeful as GP said not to rely on it and specialist says we are not ovulating which is why he gave me metformin. Wont get the clomid for another 7 weeks ( earliest appointment).

How old is your baby no 1? I am sure he or she would love someone to play with! Are you seeing a specialist or anything?

Are you in the UK? What is the health system like where you are? Ours is not too bad. fertility specialist has been free so far..

wannaBe1974 · 28/07/2006 12:14

wantababy you should have a look on the sale boards on here there have been persona's for sale on here which I'm sure users could send to you in aus, or alternatively maybe someone could pick you one up on ebay?

My ds is 3.8 now, we started trying for a baby in May of last year but haven't been successful, dh has just been called back to the gp to discuss the results of a sperm test he had a couple of weeks ago so we're not hopeful of a positive result.

Health service here is generally ok, although any treatments such as ivf etc are not funded if you already have a child.

If we can't have another though we don't want to go down road of IVF etc as ve invasive and expensive with no guarantees.

Where abouts in aus are you

WantAbabyNOW · 28/07/2006 12:23

I am in Sydney.

We have to pay for ivf also and i think one treatment is about $3000 aus. My cousin in law is about to have her first treatment and my husbands sister is donating eggs. I thought it would be much dearer than that.

Thanks about the persona info. Any idea what the cost would be? Our microscope was about $90 aussie dollars and you dont have to buy anything else to go with it. Its kinda funny cause dh just brings it out from time to time and demands I lick it. I try to explain to him that its best to do it in the morning and that you cant eat or drink for 3 hrs before but he insists anyhow. Everything is a novelty to him. He is just a big kid himself.

I actually dropped of DH semen sample today. It has only taken about three months to be able to hold him off for the 4 days and be able to drop it off while it was open. Because he had not done sample specialist would not give clomid until he was in the clear.

I am sure that you will get there... Ivf does sound incredibly invasive, maybe more so than internals etc through pregnancy.

I just borrow my nephew when i get too clucky. Had him all last weekend. He is 6 months and we can have him when ever we like. Its been like that since he was about 12 weeks.
Only problem is DH hogs him and I dont get to do anything! Should have known cause i dont even get to push the trolley when we go shopping!

WantAbabyNOW · 28/07/2006 12:31

Wow... was just reading about your maternity leave over there.... 6 months or more???

I get 14 weeks full pay of 28 weeks half pay. Then you can have lwop until child starts school. Plus we get a baby bonus of $4000 per child so I guess that equates to another month to 6 weeks off.

And I thought our government really wanted us all to have more kids.. we should protest for similar maternity leave!!

wannaBe1974 · 28/07/2006 12:39

sidney is nice. we went to aus on holiday 5 years ago and stayed in darling harbour. we were seriously thinking about emigrating there but then I fell pregnant and it didn't happen

still dream about it though and if only someone would offer dh a job there I'd be on the first plane out, lol.

I grew up in South Africa and for me Australia has similar lifestyle but without the political/security issues.

maternity leave - yes you are entitled to six months but that's not at full pay - although I worked for the civil service and did actually get 6 months at full pay.

$3000 is quite cheap for IVF, here treatment varies between £3000/4000 so that's between $9000/12000 given the ausi dollar is about 3-1 against the pound.

If I get a chance later I'll have a look for you on ebay to see how much the persona machines sell for on there and where you can get sticks for it. I too have a ovulation microscope called an isisscope but it only cost me £19, but I never even took it out of the box so am going to sell it.

WantAbabyNOW · 28/07/2006 12:45

Well I am sure you would just love it here if you decided to move. Its cold now though! We are in penrith which is about 40 mins from the actual city. What doe your other half do for work? Maybe I could send you a link to some employment websites or something.

So do you think the persona is much better thatn a microscope then?

I would LOVE 6 months maternity leave on full pay! Personally I think we should all get at least 12 months. I also think it should double if you have twins. I work for the government as a teacher and I think we get 2 more weeks than your average person. Plus 12 weeks holidays per year (BUT NOT WHEN YOU WOULD WANT THEM) so I guess its not too bad. Only have to work 10 weeks or so to get two off and then 6 at the end of the year.

wannaBe1974 · 28/07/2006 12:50

my husband works in IT. at the time we looked to emigrate he was on the list of required skills so we would have got in on the points system. now he's not so sure although I think if he had a job to go to we'd definitely consider it.

WantAbabyNOW · 28/07/2006 13:03

Try searching on seek.com.au or smh.com.au under employment? I always hear on the radio that we have a shortage in IT.

Maybe you should come out for another holiday and do a bit of job hunting while you are here. There are also loads of agencies tht find jobs for you in a particular industry like choice personnel or hays.

Im sure it wouldnt be too hard.

sallywoo · 28/07/2006 13:58

Afternoon Ladies

Day 13/31 for me. After 12 months of trying maybe this is my lucky month. Plan of attack is BD days 12-18. Normally OV days 16/17. Not taking temps or using OV sticks on gyne advice. Just using preseed, looking out for EWCM, taking EPO until day 15 and trying very hard to drink grapefruit juice. Will also try doggie style after all the BFP's doing this recently.

Good luck to all those OV'ing this weekend, keep similing and think off us all with our legs in the air trying to keep all those little swimmers in!!!!

coggy · 28/07/2006 15:37

sallywoo - sounds like doggy is definitely the way to go for all us TTCers!!
I always thought that they recommended against it but it seems to have worked for most on the past few TTC threads.

SOL - I thought you were going in the tent too??!!!
I know what you mean about taking ages to type a message. When I stayed at my FILs he always came in just as I was trying to read something dodgy on MN. Not really a good plan for your FIL to see you typing about doggy style on his laptop eh??!!

Jomax - I LOVE the phase 'mamas in waiting'.

wannaBe - you sound like a FAB friend to have with your usual wise advice.
Whereabouts in SA did you grow up? Several of my good friends lived there as children and we went along the Garden Route recently on our hols - beautiful.

And Trace (got to you eventually - phew!! what a long list!!!)
FANTASTIC news about your little old egg sign.
WHAT ARE YOU DOING ON HERE???!!!
GET OFF AND GET ON WITH IT!!!!!!

I have come to the conclussion that I am worryingly obessed with knickers!!!
It does appear to be me who often brings the subject up doesn't it??!!!

Tili · 28/07/2006 17:17

thanks everyone for your advice im definately gonna hold out and test when im actually due.
Im praying af doesnt appear!
But if it does I want it out the way quick so i can get busy bd!

OP posts:
Nicki10 · 29/07/2006 10:51

Never used first response before Beccy but a line is a line whether it's faint or not.

Congrats BFP!

Beccy1974 · 29/07/2006 10:54

tks nicki but eeek

i'm not sure whether its the line where the pos line should be (indentation thing) or if i'\m imagining colour

i have the cramps too and af has just felt round corner, had hot flushes through the month (but then has been 100 plus hasnt it) and.. had v v yellow wee this morning (sorry tmi) but then did drink some lemon stuff y/day

hmmm - i feel urge to go buy a clear blue but not sure if that will show anthing yet . any ideas

OP posts:
Nicki10 · 29/07/2006 11:51

Beccy I managed to hold out until the day before my AF was due when I did my test and it came up positive. That was sainsburys and then I went and brought a clearblue 2 pack.

It came up as positive but only extremely faintly more faint than the sainsburys one. I did the other one yesterday which was 3 days later and even then it still came up very faintly so I'm not sure it would show up as early as you are. The Digital one however was brilliant it came up really quickly as I was due my AF. Thats the early one I would recommend you buy and it is so clear (either pregnant or not pregnant!}

Hope it a pregnant result

Beccy1974 · 29/07/2006 11:54

tks nicki

i will go and buy clearblue digital; getting in a flap as dh's mobile off! typical. he's only JUST started using one !! and told parents. am now worrying as line is so faint and is four or five days early (is that right .. weds thurs af due. .have lost ability to count!)

need to have shower & go buy.

how are your cramps? lightended up at all?
