Advice re OPK please-very early smiley face

StrawberryMojito · 02/06/2013 09:49

This is my second month using an OPK (clearblue digital that tells you when you are both high and peak fertility). Last month I didn't get a high fertility sign at all (flashing smiley face), it just went straight to peak fertility (fixed smiley face). This was on day 12 which was a couple of days earlier than expected but still seemed normal.

I only finished my period a couple of days ago but started using the opk straight away as my cycles vary a bit (26-30 days). Today (day 8) I got a high fertlity sign. Surely this is too early?

So, we had sex last night just for fun rather than baby making but now I'm thinking should we do it again tonight as I got the high (but not peak) fertility sign or shall we just start doing it every other day until I get the peak fertility smiley face. I don't want to exhaust DH and his swimmers but don't want to miss the window either.

Thanks BNmum, think we'll give it a go and see what happens. Wondering whether to ditch the opks and temping next month to try to take the pressure off. Smile

I found that eating little and often helped ms a bit. Ginger biscuits are meant to be good, but I think anything with a bit of sugar in helps. Think I had fruit pastilles on the go at one point. Peppermint tea is meant to be good too, although it was the first thing that made me actually be sick. You might be different though, so might be worth a try?

StrawberryMojito · 26/07/2013 09:58

BN, ready salted crisps and bacon sandwiches helped me. All I could stomach was salty food which was strange as they are not normally foods that I'm mad about usually. I found that ms was worse when I was hungry. Ginger tea/biscuits etc were useless.

I got another bloody flashing smiley today. It was number 4 and I am on CD14. Really annoying. We dtd last night and I was hoping that we'd do it a couple of times over the weekend and could relax. So, we'll probably skip tonight now.

Bambi, have a great time at the wedding. Try and forget about baby making and just enjoy yourself.

Charley, I am finding that the smep is probably great if you ovulate early ish but its easy to get really fed up if you start early (as DH and I did) and then still haven't ovulated a week later.

Business - that definitely sounds promising, keep us updated!

Hi tea, I have been using the food tactic, it usually works!

blueamber · 26/07/2013 10:04

BNmum, sorry you're feeling so rough. Hopefully someone will have some tips.

Business, fingers crossed! Let us know if you managed to test this morning.

Charley, I can understand the pressure can get to the men. It's diffcult to just get into it when there is no 'natural' start to dtd. It's frustrating for women as well. The men need to do the work right in the beginning, after that it is just us doing it all for 9 months!

Fixed smiley for me today! The oestrogen line was darker than yesterday, meaning that the levels have dropped, which is exactly what happens just before the LH surge. Really hoping I'll ov this time!

blueamber · 26/07/2013 10:08

I meant to say - Bambi, it could be that you just didn't ov this month. If that is true, your body might just skip AF and start again with the cycle. I agree with strawberry though, try and not think about it at the wedding and have some nice champagne Smile

Tea1Sugar · 26/07/2013 11:52

What does o pain feel like? Just had a weird never-before pin prick type feeling but enough to be startled by it on my right side. Dissipated within 20 seconds though so tell me to shut up Grin

BNmum · 26/07/2013 14:33

Thanks guys, have try some of those tips out.

Congrats blue, that's great news!

When I've had ov pains before tea, they've felt similar to a low down stitch, sometimes a dull ache and othertimes a stabbing pain (not really helpful as that describes just about every pain).

blueamber · 26/07/2013 15:03

Seems I got the wrong end of the stick this morning, literally. I got the lines wrong and the dark one which I thought was oestrogen is actually lh! It never got that dark last month, so it must be a good sign my hormones are getting back to normal!

Tea, the pains usually last from an hour to a day, but saying that it is also possible to feel pain as the egg bursts through, which would not last long. I got pains all day last month, but never ov'd, but this time nothing so far. Symptoms can be different every time though.

Tea1Sugar · 26/07/2013 16:00

That sounds very promising blue!

Need some advice on my shag timetable: today is cd9, had flashies since cd7 when we dtd, haven't since. Is it worth doing it tonight or hold off for a fixed hopefully tomorrow? Dp can only manage every other day really and don't want to waste his energy!

BNmum · 26/07/2013 16:10

It's a difficult one tea but I'd dtd when you can, if DH is keen tonight then I'd go for it just incase something happens e.g. He gets manflu, he falls asleep, can't perform etc etc and then you also miss the next slot too.

Also if your fixed doesn't arrive tomorrow you'll be thinking the same again. If you do get your fixed and DH can't be persuaded to dtd, you'll still be 'covered'. Good luck!

Tea1Sugar · 26/07/2013 17:26

Very logical blue thanks Grin plus we have a two hour train journey to bournemouth and back tomorrow which will tire us out

businessadmin · 26/07/2013 17:54

I Done PG Test with this morning urine, negative again Sad.

Ive ad a little bleed on tissue, so think AF is coming Sad.

Ive think ive done IUI too early on Day 11 instead ov Day 15/16, Il try
next time, im gona do it on the proper day.

BNmum · 26/07/2013 18:55

I'm sorry to hear that business Sad

Would you try IUI next cycle if af turns up or wait abit? Do the clinic offer any advice?

If you go for IUI again and given how sensitive the adv OPKs are I thnk you could wait till you get your fixed and then go in as this would usually be 24hrs before you would get an smiley on the normal OPKs. Given how tight your window is, it would give you a good chance. If you ovulate on the same day every cycle you should be in a good position to know when this will happen too.

charleylarlie · 26/07/2013 19:25

Sorry to hear that, Business, I would do as BNmum says and go in the day after the first fixed smiley. Also, def do something nice this weekend to cheer yourself up!

yep, def a good idea to dtd today, Tea, esp if you think DP might be tired tomorrow.

Hopefully your opk line is a good sign, Blue, even if you did misread it.

Hope we get our fixeds tomorrow, Strawberry. It's so hard knowing when to start dtd. Think I'll hang fire a bit next month if no bfp.

Enjoy the wedding, Bambi!

Hope you're not feeling too queasy, BNmum.

The good news is that DP was feeling less stressed today so managed a quickie when ds was having his nap. Had a nice afternoon book shopping, so I'm feeling much more positive now, even if I do have to work tomorrow! Smile

StrawberryMojito · 26/07/2013 20:06

Sorry to hear about the negative test business. Better luck next month.

Glad you managed that quickie Charley, hopefully it will take the pressure off your DP. I'm on CD13 not 14 as I said earlier, so it think it maybe a couple of days before I ov yet. I think we will have a night off tonight. Please let us get a fixed smiley tomorrow!

Have a good weekend everyone.

Sorry about that, business. It's Difficult to predict when you have flashing smilies when you'll get your fixed one. But when you do get the fixed one and the lh surge, ov usually happens 12-36 hours after that, with the egg surviving for 12-24 hours, so you should have enough time. Would you be able to go to the clinic on the same day or do you have to wait a day?

The ov pains have started. Ouch. Really hope it'll not be for nothing.

businessadmin · 26/07/2013 21:44

Hi,

Thanx BNmum , charley, strawberry and Blueamber Smile.

My bleed alittle light at the moment, just ave to see, if it get heavier .

Im goin to use the normally OPK with the lines, the smiley fixed advance OPK give me the wrong impression.

Bambi27 · 26/07/2013 23:19

Ah business I'm sorry really had fingers crossed for you :( sorry it's a bfn and af seems on her way!!

Enjoying hearing all your flashing/fixed stories I would suggest Dtd when the mood take you, don't worry about tomorrow, hopefully the mood will take you again :)

No af still for me but hey ho I'm going to enjoy my weekend!!!

StrawberryMojito · 27/07/2013 06:07

Aghhh! I could kick myself. I have just got my 5th flashing smiley, I'm now CD14 with no sign of ovulation which is really unusual for me. I think it's my own fault, I read up on these vitamins I was taking for lengthening luteal phase but now I've read that a side effect of B6 is that it can delay or even prevent ovulation, why didn't I see this before? I'll stop taking it now but I think I may have really screwed this cycle up. Am so annoyed as we have been dtd every other day, I haven't had a drink in weeks, I had started to chart my temp, was using the opks, basically was doing everything I could and it might be a waste. Rant over.

Hi ladies this is my first month using the opk I had my period 16 July (gutted) my cylce was 23 days so it said to start testing day 6 or 7 can't remember the first day I got O then last Tuesday I got my first flashing smile and I have had one every day since, I had sex on mon tues and last night and plan to over weekend, for I have had 5 flashing smiles in a row. I don't no if I will ever get a solid smile. Confusing

Sarahmains40 · 27/07/2013 07:42

Also this morning my breasts are beginning to get slightly tender see what tomorrow brings.

BNmum · 27/07/2013 08:53

Welcome sarah, don't worry about getting so many flashing smileys that's normal just keep testing. It's just unfortunate that clearblue don't make that clearer on there info leaflet.

Good work charley, hopefully that will help put DH in a better frame of mind Smile

Good for you bambi, I hope you have a great time at the wedding.

Ahhh! strawbs what a nightmare! I hope you've picked up on that quickly enough so it only delays things by a few days.

I hope that the pains have subsided blue and you catch your egg. Good luck!

Any change business?

Tea1Sugar · 27/07/2013 08:55

Feel your frustration strawberry and sarah. Got my 4th flashing smiley this morning. Dtd last night so think will have a night off tonight. Cd10 for me.

Tea1Sugar · 27/07/2013 09:54

Strawbs what vitamins are you taking? I'm taking seven seas Trying for a baby which contains b6, should I be avoiding it? Shock

businessadmin · 27/07/2013 11:25

Ty bambi x Af came Sad BNmum hopefuly try next cycle x

blueamber · 27/07/2013 12:55

Ah that's crap, business. Hope next month will be better. I suppose that is a disadvantage of the advanced opk, it tells you ov is coming, but you just don't know how soon it'll be!

Tea, the amount of b6 in prenatal vitamins will not change your cycle, so you're fine. It's only if you take more you might lengthen the lp. I didn't know it could delay ovthough, but hopefully, strawb, it won't be long.

To everyone waiting for their flashing smilies to turn into fixed ones, don't worry, it will happen! Mine did eventually.

I went to reflexology today and it was quite good. She stimulated all the areas on my feet for my hormones and ovaries. She also picked up on a few other issues that I never told her about, so I was quite impressed. I am usually rather sceptical, but think there might actually be some truth in this reflexology. Fingers crossed it worked! My pains Have subsided now and I am now waiting for a temperature rise of my bbt.
