Advice re OPK please-very early smiley face

StrawberryMojito · 02/06/2013 09:49

This is my second month using an OPK (clearblue digital that tells you when you are both high and peak fertility). Last month I didn't get a high fertility sign at all (flashing smiley face), it just went straight to peak fertility (fixed smiley face). This was on day 12 which was a couple of days earlier than expected but still seemed normal.

I only finished my period a couple of days ago but started using the opk straight away as my cycles vary a bit (26-30 days). Today (day 8) I got a high fertlity sign. Surely this is too early?

So, we had sex last night just for fun rather than baby making but now I'm thinking should we do it again tonight as I got the high (but not peak) fertility sign or shall we just start doing it every other day until I get the peak fertility smiley face. I don't want to exhaust DH and his swimmers but don't want to miss the window either.

Eugh I caved bfn as expected...

BNmum · 18/07/2013 17:02

It's still early days bambi, forget about it and test again on sat when af is due. Don't worry about having a drink on fri, even if you are pregnant there wouldn't be a placenta yet and the embryo will feed off its sac-thing

charleylarlie · 18/07/2013 17:10

Don't get too disheartened, Bambi, like BNmum says, it's still early. And a couple of glasses of wine will do no harm. I'm now on cd3 and will start testing again soon. Have still got a few sticks left in my 20 pack, so hoping the holder's battery will stretch to a third month. Am too much of a cheapskate to purchase a new one!

businessadmin · 18/07/2013 17:50

Gud luck bambi x

I think they shud sell the OPK sticks on there own, instead of aving to buy a new box and getting another holder charley.

charleylarlie · 18/07/2013 19:34

Yes, I agree Business. It would make it soo much cheaper. There's such a price difference between the cb ones and the cheap ones as well, could do with something reliable but not as expensive. At this rate, I'd have been better off buying a fertility monitor instead. Hope you're okay anyway and the wait isn't too bad. Keep us posted with any other symptoms.

Will you wait until Saturday to test again, Bambi, or do you think you'll try again tomorrow?

StrawberryMojito · 18/07/2013 20:27

Hi, hope you're all well and enjoying the hot weather. Sorry about the bfn Bambi, maybe try again at the weekend?
Have you learned any top tips in your fertility books Blueamber? I have been online researching and I spent £14 (!) in Holland and Barrett buying a vitamin B complex jar of vits (50mg) and agnus cactus as both are supposed to be good for fertility and lengthening the luteal phase. I am also going to be back using the cb OPKs this month but like Charley I will be using up left over sticks from my 2 previous packs. I think I have 6 in total so hopefully that will be enough, this baby making lark is expensive!

I have already told DH that we have planned dtd sessions on Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday (I am away on Thursday) and possibly more depending on opk results. He's up for it but he's doing a triathlon on Sunday morning and will be knackered so I've bribed him with a takeaway, he's a cheap date.

How are you BN, feeling tired and sick yet? Any more symptoms Business?

Bambi27 · 18/07/2013 20:30

No more testing for me! Not even a slight line so pretty sure I'm out now so will just wait for af! If she's not here by Sunday ill test! Never mind I have 10 sticks left so hoping they'll last me next month! Eugh another month ttc Hmm never mind wine Tomo always look on the bright side!! GrinGrinGrin

businessadmin · 18/07/2013 20:40

I agree charley with the fertility monitor lol x

Nope no more symptoms charley & strawberry x

Bambi27 · 18/07/2013 20:44

You still have to buy the sticks for the monitors so not sure how much cheaper it works out??

BNmum · 18/07/2013 20:55

haha! Brilliant strawberry, I love the way you are bribing your dh with a takeaway and he thinks that's a good deal! Sounds like you will be rattling with all the pills! I hope they work for you.

I think the sticks for the monitors are about the same price £1/stick, plus the cost of the monitor but I think they offer a bit more info by trying to predict your cycle. I haven't used one just going off info from a friend.

No real symptoms for me. I feel REALLY tired but I cant remember a time when I haven't (the joys of having a 2yo) felt this way and this heat is sooo draining.

blueamber · 18/07/2013 21:09

Yes, strawberry, there was some good info in the books. In the Impatient Woman for instance she explained when to test. The average woman gets implementation at 9dpo, after which it takes 2-3 days to produce enough hcg to show in a test, so the earliest most women could test is 11-12 dpo. But for some it takes longer, for instance the day after AF was due. Still, it does not help that she is giving all these tips, but when your cycle just wont start like with me, then it's very frustrating. I'm not even getting the chance to become pregnant!

Anyways, Bambi, the Advanced OPK sticks on Amazon are 21 pounds for 20 sticks. The Fertility monitor sticks are 20 pounds for 20 sticks and then you got the cost of the monitor, about 25-35 pounds second hand on ebay. I got the monitor, but as my cycle has been insanely long and without an AF, I have switched over to the opks. They seem easier, as you can just use them when you want, but if your cycle is regular, the monitor predicts for you when you should use a stick. It will also be more sensitive to reading your hormones.

BNmum · 19/07/2013 08:46

What a nightmare, have you been to see the doc blue? They may give you a progesterone pill to kickstart your cycle again, what cd are you now?

blueamber · 19/07/2013 09:05

Thanks, BNmum, a nightmare indeed! It's cd80 or something today. This last week I have been getting signs of ov including ewcm for the sixth day now! Today and yesterday I got a flashing smiley on the OPK though. I am hoping that ov will finally happen this weekend. I am taking my BBT as well and hopefully I'll see a temp rise. But I don't feel the cycle is establshing itself on its own and might need that kickstart you mentioned. So if nothing happens this weekend I'm definitely seeing the doc this time!

BNmum · 19/07/2013 09:17

Good idea blue, it sounds like it's showing signs of ovulation so give it a chance (it's Friday anyway) and if nothing happens go to the docs next week and see what they say. Keep us posted if you get a fixed

charleylarlie · 19/07/2013 12:27

Good luck for the fixed smiley, Blueamber. Def see your Dr if no joy though. Hopefully you won't need to though - sounds like your body is gearing up to ov.

I never thought about having to buy sticks for the monitor too, so it prob is a lot cheaper with just the digi sticks! The sticks seem to work for me too, it's just that I always feel I ought to try something new each month of ttc.

Enjoy your wine Bambi!

Good luck with the vits, Strawberry, hope your cycle straightens itself out this month.

Bit worried that AF seems to have got lighter and lighter since we've been ttc. It's practically gone now and I only came on on late morning on Tuesday (was hardly any yesterday either). Keep telling myself to get a grip - am only 37 so v unlikely I'm starting the monopause!

Bambi27 · 19/07/2013 13:51

Oh I really hope you get your fixed smiley soon!!

Any symptoms/af/bfp business? I have resisted testing today as not really feeling at all optimistic so will wait until Sunday if af doesn't show tomorrow!! Not looking forward to Dtd next month if it stays this hot!!! Ha ha!!

Bambi27 · 19/07/2013 13:52

And charley I'm sure you are not hitting the menopause!!! Just probably paying lots of attention to af! Probably had always gone through cycles like this!! Shock

businessadmin · 19/07/2013 14:53

No Bambi.

Kind of the same symptom, weird sensations, but still another Negative test today.

Bambi27 · 19/07/2013 20:10

Still early days business!! You hear of people not showing positive until after af is due!! Xx

charleylarlie · 19/07/2013 20:17

I'm sure you're right re: menopause, Bambi. Tbh, I have spent the best part of 10 years on the pill/pg with ds that I can't really know what AF is really like. Am prob basing it all on what it was like in my teens and early twenties. Also, ttc makes us all more aware of our little worries that may have no basis in reality. Here's hoping you have an AF free weekend and you get a bfp!

I know it's tempting, Business, but it would be v. rare to get a bfp this early even if you are pg. It's a good sign that you're getting unusual symptoms though!

I'm going to start with the CB digis again on Sunday morning, which will be cd6.

Bambi27 · 19/07/2013 20:39

Defiantly over analysing cycles, think we all do!!!

I hope I get a bfp to but I am having wine due to bfn yesterday! Will wait til Sunday to test! Will prob have af by then!!

I will use cb adv digital again if af rears ugly head!! Xx

BNmum · 20/07/2013 07:57

Menopause! Shock. charley I totally agree that we overanalyse our cycle/body when trying to conceive and worry about things that would normally pass us by unnoticed if we weren't POAS, pant diving and symptom spotting every month. Keep an eye on it and if you're still worried go see the docs, if only for the reassurance that all is well.

I hope af stays away for you bambi and business!

Any sign of a fixed blue?

How you getting on with the books strawberry?

BNmum · 20/07/2013 08:00

Sorry meant to say......
How are you getting on with the books charley?

How's things with you strawbs?

Bambi27 · 20/07/2013 08:40

Thanks Bnmum! Me2, not holding out much hope tho, she's due today so we shall see, will test tomorrow with fmu if she's not here by then!!

charleylarlie · 20/07/2013 19:32

Hope AF is staying away, Bambi. Good luck with testing tomorrow!

I've got quite into the 'Take Charge of Your Fertility' book, BNmum as it has quite a lot about charting in. Am tempted by the 'Impatient Woman's Guide' now too. Smile
