As if ttc wasn't nerve wrecking enough, we like the extra challenge of getting that BFP while still breastfeeding a baby or toddler. While this isn't an easy endouvour, it certainly isn't impossible as many graduates on the previous threads prove.

I'm posting a link here for any newcomers about fertility while breastfeeding.

Am also wonderig if you'd like to have some sort of stats for the tread members. I'll just start myself.

Hugs to Skylark, I really hope you get more positive news soon Flowers Welcome to the other newbies!

So we have some news which is mainly positive - I had a BFP yesterday Smile and an early scan today and I'm 6.5w pregnant Grin. Unfortunately, that means that what I thought was a massive period (11 days of bleeding followed by 12 days of spotting including some bright red blood) was actually early stage pregnancy bleeding, which has been going on until right up to yesterday. So we're finding it a bit hard to be totally ecstatic today, but I'm consoling myself that if the little one can survive 3 weeks of bleeding and STILL be in there and the right size for dates then maybe it's a sticky one. Ho hum.

That does explain my weird charting - my OPKs were positive 9 days in a row, which I'd put down to BF hormones but apparently they can detect pregnancy too, who knew! And my BBT has been higher than normal, it never came down after the last LP but I'd put it down to the hot weather.

It does mean that we conceived the very first month I started taking vit B6, which was also the first month my LP was a good length (it went from 5 days to 11 days). So worth a try...

We're now off for 2 weeks hol so don't worry if it's radio silence for a while. I'm going to try to relax on the beach and hope for no more bleeding. Baby dust to all of you!

Big congratulations to East! And thank you to all for your kind words.. Wild and Eggs, thank you really reassuring to know that re the BF.
Im feeling pretty awful today. One minute i can rationalise it and know that if this happened the pgy wasnt viable, its natures way and if i got pregnant once at 40 whilst BF then i can again. The next im in floods of tears, feeling desperate and wondering if or when my DD will have a sibling. Im so close to my sisters and i want her to have the same. That said i know im so lucky to have her and she has cheered me up hugely today. I dont want her to see me so upset as think it is unsettling so mostly talking to friends or getting family to look after her so DP and i have some time.

Wildwaterfalls · 26/07/2013 22:30

Oh skylark, I won't say I know how you feel because no one ever really does with an mc, but I remember how devastated I was. You are so right though - having got pregnant while bf is so encouraging, and of course it is wonderful that you have your DD, although it must be difficult too to be strong when you are sad.

My annoyances of today are very minor in comparison, but being depressed already due to AF arriving I was made to feel much worse by someone enthusiastically pointing at my stomach and saying: Ooh, second one! HmmConfused Why do people think it is ever a good thing to 'guess' pregnancies?! And I'm nearly back at my prepregnancy weight too, although I guess my stomach will never quite look the same..

AF vibes to you Gherkin
And great news about DS. If grommets are fitted is it likely his speech will catch up then?
Sorry for your news skylark hope you and your dp have been able to have some time together.
I'm still waiting for ovulation- this is my first time using opk so hopefully am actually ovulating and that ds will sleep well enough for us to actually manage any swi when I am as he has been very unsettled last couple of days

junebaby2011 · 28/07/2013 14:40

Sending AF vibes to gherkin.. It was AF that arrived for me the other day (after 25.5 months) so it obviously does return eventually even though I did nothing to encourage its return. Just need to wait now to see what cycle length is like-I'm hoping as it took so long for AF to return it will 28 days as it was before...now to persuade DH that TTC as soon as possible is a good idea!!

mamapants · 28/07/2013 16:37

So have just used the opk and think that both lines are equally dark. Only thing is its cd.20 and due to length of cycle the instructions told me to start testing on cd. 22 anybody know the chances of having a longer than average luteal phase (19days) and the signifcance
May

Wildwaterfalls · 28/07/2013 20:09

AF vibes Gherkin from me as well! Hope your DS is doing ok.

Think I forgot to say congratulations EastBeast, very exciting! There are many explanations for bleeding during pregnancy - I had some with DD. Hope all is progressing well.

A bit clueless about longer luteal phases I'm afraid - all I know is that bf tends to cause luteal phases to be (too) short, so in my mind longer is better, but not sure if there is such a thing as too long in this context...

We're on our holiday at the moment but trying to keep up with the thread Smile. Unfortunately had to stop bf for 12 hours yesterday as I got a bad stomach upset, and had to take some medicine to make it through the flight, but we got through that alright..

eggsnbeans · 29/07/2013 05:20

AF vibes by the truckload Gherkins Smile
Glad to hear your DS's hearing loss should be corrected by the grommets too.

Sorry to hear AF got you Wild, but at least you can enjoy your holiday now! Hope you are somewhere nice Grin

Mama, maybe you are going to have a shorter cycle? Mine have shortened over the past couple of months. I've never heard of really long LPs. Hmm The other thing that can happen (I think linked to bf?) is that your hormones can do all the right things to ovulate, but without ovulation happening, then you get another surge and ovulation later. Are you using the 25iu strips or the super sensitive 10iu ones?

DD has disgusting conjunctivitis at the moment. Treating with bm Smile but might have to go to dr tomorrow if still this bad! I'm wondering if she's getting chicken pox/ We have faint red spots around her head and body, but they haven't turned into scabby pox? Dr google is not being that helpful! might just be a viral rash though as she has the snots and a horrible cough (courtesy of DH) Sad Currently sleeping on my chest (and snoring terribly!) so apologies for the gazillion typos!

MB34 · 29/07/2013 08:42

Hi all,
Just wanted some opinions and you seem like the girls in the know! I am bf 8mo DS and would like to be pregnant when I return to work (maybe November but am hoping more for January)
AF hasn't returned yet and don't really want to give up bf totally, I'm thinking night weaning may be the best way to start but is DS too young?
TIA

Sorry if this is tmi but does anyone else find ttc dtd more. .. um... interesting than normal dtd?

Both dh and I seem to have discovered previously untapped wells of enthusiasm despite toddler induced exhaustion and since ds was conceived the first month it's all new to us! Grin

Hi Sunny - keeping us alert with the name changes Smile. I will continue to think of you as Harriet.. Let us know when you hear about DS's op. Is it a big procedure? I really hope it will go well and help him with his speaking. DD had to have surgery at around 15 weeks for a hernia. We were nervous of course but the hospital staff were lovely and I was allowed to go into the recovery room to meet DD there, and bf here as she woke up. Hope all will go well for you too.

Cakes don't be embarrassed!! DH and I are usually very enthusiastic at the start of a new month trying, but get kind of worn out tired towards the time I ov. So this month we are going to try and save out energy for the important days! (How romantic)

Wildwaterfalls · 30/07/2013 21:12

Oh and welcome MB - good advice from Sunny - my AF came back around 9 months without night weaning so hopefully you won't have to yet (unless you want to for other reasons of course)

eggsnbeans · 31/07/2013 06:09

Arghhhh I have the dreaded lurgy too Sad I am aching all over and can't even stand the pressure of the shower on my skin. And to top it off I think AF is going to start tomorrow Sad so LP is still only 8d. Boo. DD not really any better either so off to Dr tomorrow I think.

Cakes, yeah I kind of agree with you Grin DH seems to like the idea of his swimmers doing what they're suppossed to do (or trying to anyway as my body won't let them do it properly!) Hmm

Wild hope you are enjoying your hols Smile

Ooh that's a relief Sunny that it is quite a minor procedure. I still understand it is worrying though! Hopefully you will get a date that's in the near future, so DS can hear better soon but also you can stop worrying.

Eggs any chance the grotty feeling could be pg symptoms? At 8dpo you could be starting to have the first signs perhaps? Keep us up to date!

The holiday is lovely. We are staying with the ILs (who live abroad) and they're great with DD. I do get the occasional 'wouldn't a bottle at bedtime help her sleep better' but it is all very well-meaning and they understand this is what works for me and DD.

The past couple of nights I've sent DH in first during night wakings and he has managed to settle DD so maybe we are getting somewhere re better sleep. Smile My ideal would be bf at bedtime and in the morning but not so many times in between!
