Old Fred here

Here we go Brookers, it's been a long year with lots of BFPs and newborn snuggles for the Brookers. We're just a sleigh-ride away from 2013, when the rest of us will get our get our 12 week scans (because of course we will all have BFPs under the christmas tree this year!)

So come all ye brookers, it's tinsel and baubels all the way!

cartoontrickster · 19/01/2013 20:20

god what a lot going on keep hope it all goes well.
sweetie glad af arrived. hope you all have a fun evening/day tomorrow.
we could do with a new thread couldn't we. Xmas is so over.

keepitgoing · 20/01/2013 07:21

Quick one. Sperm has gone from3-4% morphology in the last three tests, last one in July, to 10%!!!!! Grin this means ivf rather than icsi. And better natural / iui chances.

We have to choose between
-long protocol starting in mid Feb
-iui in Feb, then long protocol starting mid march
-iui in Feb, then short protocol in march

He recommended ling protocol for us if poss, due to risk of premature Lh surge in sp. Does anyone have any thoughts? We are slightly worried dh will have to be in the UK for an interview some time in April, so that's why I wouldn't just go with option two no questions.

He recommends one emby put back on day 5, 35-40% success, but would put two, 55% success but 10% chance of twins... Dh wants two, but I've suddenly got cold feet. Anyway, we have time to think, and need to wait and see what we get anyway. Aiming for 5-10,eggs.

Feel v excited, as if it might happen for us. But planning three cycles...

Love to all, esp face.

sweetie good luck with hrt. How weird...

Am off to the airport now....

SweetieTime · 20/01/2013 08:30

Wow keep a lot to think about. Well done MrK for his improvement, it just shows what a difference a few lifestyle changes can make. I only had short protocol, which I found ok for me. I have to down reg this time which I am not looking forward to. But you have to go on the advice you are given. With regards number of embies put back I would wait see what you get and how they look at the time. The less embies you get the sooner they like to replace them but if you have a good selection it sometimes is better to grow them to see which grow well & stand bestest change. We hope to have 2 put back this time if we get that far, but I am old gimmer so this will be our last chance - - maybe--

Solars forgot to ask what tests have they recommend for you this time?

Hope everyone is ok

Solars · 20/01/2013 13:15

Keep good luck with your sister being there Thanks You have a lot to think about there, in terms of number of embies really depends on what develops so you can make that decision later down the line. Hope you and DH manage to discuss it all while your sis is there.

Sweetie good luck with the hrt too. I don't have my list to hand but it included as well as the usual lh, fsh, progesterone etc, a full blood count, AMH which they use to decide which protocol they want you on and a few other bloods I'd never heard of or haven't been requested before. Hoping to get as much done on the NHS.

We've had loads more snow again today so we're not going to a birthday party which is about an hour away :(

ControlGeek · 20/01/2013 14:14

keep wow that's a lot of info! It's always good to have choices though. Huge congrats to MrKeep on getting those swimmers up to speed - what on earth has he been doing?? What's your deadline for making your decision on which of your options to take? Do you have time to wait and see how this IUI turns out, before deciding between having another IUI or going straight to IVF? Sweetie and Solars are right about waiting until you see how many and what quality of embryos you end up with - no point making a decision about that now, go with what is best for you at the time. Congrats and good luck!!!

More snow here today, have just had to do the weekly shop on foot, dragging a shopping trolley around with me

MrG's D&V is so bad. GP has said there is nothing we can do but try to keep dosing him up with dioralyte and lucozade, and keep an eye on his blood sugar every 4 hours. I've bleached the house from top to bottom, and had to run out to argos for more sheets as the last set is on the bed at the moment. All the rest are in the bin Sad

cartoontrickster · 20/01/2013 15:26

poor you geek hopefully it won't last long and Mr g will feel better very soon.
wow keep that's good news. well done Mr k. I have no advice as I know nothing on the subject. but it all sounds really promising. your baby isn't far off now! hope you have fun with ur sis.
I think I may have felt slightly nauseous today. could be worry could be wishful thinking but there you go. I swing from one extreme to the other positive then negative. you've all been so kind. Thanks

Solars · 20/01/2013 17:08

Feeling nauseous sounds like a good thing Face and I hope the spotting has stopped for you too.

Oh no Geek poor MrG, how awful for you. Hope this is the worst of it and he starts to feel better soon.

I'm getting a little concerned about sending our registration now, we've got all our paperwork together now so just needs posting but DH is saying we should wait until we get a copy of the referral the gynae wants to send to the clinic. It's just all too much waiting for me now and I just want to get on with things [frustrated]

keepitgoing · 21/01/2013 07:59

solars there is just too much waiting, isn't there? Couldn't you send that referral later, or ask them to send a copy direct?

geek poor you and mrG, also sad to get rid of the sheets. Just keep up his fluids, it can't last forever...

Thanks for your wise words, girls. Yes, will have to decide about the embys at the time. The main choice now is what and when. I think we want to give iui one more chance, so in that case I guess I've got about a month to decide. I just don't get the benefit of LP (though I do for you sweetie, as you have to synch up with the donor), so just started a thread.

10dpiui. Slightly sore boobies, as normal for this point. Don't feel different, so assume not preg, but you never know...

Not had The Talk yet, as the boys are always there.

SweetieTime · 21/01/2013 08:21

Solars i agree it is the waiting between things happening that is so difficult. I find these times really tough, even harder than the dreaded 2ww. At least when something is going on you have something to focus on.

keep glad they all arrived ok, and it is just finding the right time to have a chat. I am not sure I understand why anyone has to have long protocol either. I think there is no real evidence that it is better so a lot of clinic switching to short.

geek sorry MrG been so poorly, it must be difficult to regulate his meds when like this. Hope he is on the mend.

Snow day here, it is about 15cm thick & expected to snow all day. DH is not going in either, you not worth driving. Am going to ring clinic later to let them k ow af has arrived, if any of the egg donor team are in.

Keep warm ladies and take care out there.

RubberBullets · 21/01/2013 12:20

Hope MrG is on the mend

AF turned up here this morning. I think she is trying to avoid the snow so I'll tell her about all the snow you lot have and hopefully she will keep away from you.

cartoontrickster · 21/01/2013 14:08

are any brookers snowed in? its a bit quiet around here. I havent been to work since tues and am starting to go a bit stir crazy.

ControlGeek · 21/01/2013 15:18

solars there is so much waiting and hanging around in this TTC malarky isn't there?! Can you not send the paperwork, with a note that a copy of the referral will follow? Will they need the referral letter at this stage?

keep I must check out that thread you've started, I also want to know what the benefits of LP are. I have been told I'll be on SP due to high AMH but if I go ahead with the ovarian drilling that will affect my AMH levels so may end up on LP. Can you remind me what MrKeep did to soup up his swimmers? Was cutting down on alcohol part of it?

sweetie so jealous of your snowday. I'm in work and it's even dared to rain a bit! Glad AF is finally here for you, you can now get on with your BFP cycle. Do you know when your donor's cycle is due to start?

cartoon it is a bit quiet, but it is also a Monday. Not generally a day for high wit and sparkling repartee.

MrG is off work today and under strict instructions not to touch anything not on the 'hot zone' list, but if he does he needs to make a note so I can bleach it tonight. I refuse to catch it!

Still no news of my op date. I last chased it by text with my consultant two weeks today, and got a reply saying he was 'looking into dates now you will here from us soon'. Is it too soon to chase again? I'm getting really anxious about it fitting in with the 16 week NHS pathway timeframe, and also fitting in around work. Apparently I have to have a nurse's appointment a week before the op, too, so that's even more time off work. Scrub my last, I've just sent a chasing text. He only works there Monday afternoons so might be able to get something moving today if I am really lucky.

Withalittlesparkle · 21/01/2013 16:48

No snow fun for me geeks just muh sulking that the snow has ruined our birthday/anniversary activities!!! On the plus side I've just baked myself a birthday cake!!!

Promise I'll catch up with you lovely ladies this evening, there's so much going on and even though its taking its time you're all sneaking towards that elusive BFP!!!!

SweetieTime · 21/01/2013 19:24

Happy Birthday Sparks what a lovely way to spend your birthday ThanksThanksThanks Hope you have had a nice day.

Geek I am bad at sitting on my hands too, i think you have done the right thing following up on the appointment. Did you hear anything back?

Cartoon How are things, apart from the stir craziness?

Face can I perhaps broach the subject of POAS? How many days post IUI do they suggest you test?

Solars good luck with getting those tests all on the NHS, I know my PCT will not do AMH tests but not sure what other PCTs will or won't do. I think it cost me £70 in the end.

Well I managed to speak to the clinic today and have some good news. Firstly we will be charged the lesser 2013 price. And secondly I will remain on the HRT for the next 2 months when I will then be lined up with the donor. This will be all managed by the HRT so I don't need to down reg, so no more jabbing for me - WOO HOO. The timing means I should be starting mid to late March, which is later than I would have liked but we are where we are and it is all for the right reasons.

Also info for those of you with the lighter AFs who have been concerned by this. I had my lining measured this cycle and it was 13mm, which is considered very good for baby to settle into. When AF has arrived it has been just normal for me, really light flow for 2 days and today, day 3, just spotting. So I was expecting something much heavier but this must be just normal for me, I am not sure if lining is somehow absorbed or what. But this is very reassuring for us light ladies. Thought i would pass it along.

NoMaybeAboutIt · 21/01/2013 20:02

Ah, that's great Sweetie. How are you feeling about it all?

Geek how is MrG tonight? Feeling better I hope. If the sickness is still bad, I swear by Motilium. It's fantastic.

Keep so pleased everything's moving along so quickly for you. There isn't that big a chance of a premature LH surge with the short protocol. But far fewer eggs are normally retrieved from it.

Face how are you feeling?

Sorry you couldn't get to your party Solars.

Sparks making your own cake?! That's the sort of thing I would do!!

Hello to everyone else, I am loving the snow. But that's cos I don't need to struggle to please twunty boss Grin

Solars · 21/01/2013 20:25

Happy Anniversary & Birthday Sparkes any chance of some of that cake?

Sweetie good to know about the lining, my acupuncturist thinks mine is on the light side. Yes I agree I don't think the gp will do the amh but just hope they'll at least do some of the others. Great to hear about the costs of your cycle and that all is moving forward. How is the hrt?

Geek hope MrG is better and that you've heard back from your consultant. These consultants can be so frustrating! brooking you hear from him asap, feels like a long time that you've been waiting. DH is worried that they won't match the consultants referral with our registration papers and thinks it will be better if we send things altogether Hmm I said that if we don't get the letter by the end of the week then I'm sending off our paperwork.

Keep I was told that lp is supposed to yield more eggs.

Mmmm chorizo and chicken bake sounds lovely, Maybe

MotherOfCleo · 21/01/2013 21:09

thanks sweetie as a fellow light lady Smile that is very good news. Thanks

Loopyhasanotherbean · 21/01/2013 21:30

As a graduate of this thread who has 2 ds's, I thought it would be worth mentioning that I've never had particularly heavy/long periods either, never had any MC's and was v v v v fortunate to fall pregnant first month of trying both times, so if you have light/short periods it doesn't necessarily mean bad news.

Good luck to everyone, sounds like with all the treatment that's happening/ about to happen, there will soon be a lot of BFP's being announced! Hoping to rejoin this thread a year from now, and sincerely hope that none of you are here to welcome me!

cartoontrickster · 21/01/2013 21:41

hi cleo how are things with you?
sweetie sounds like things are moving along well, although sorry its a longer wait than you wouldve liked. good news about the cheaper price too. have u had the sticky bloods etc done now?
I think it must be time for keep to poas!
happy birthday sparks hope u had a lovely day.
all seems to have been well here today. the midwife advised against having blood tests or an early scan as both will cause me more worry at this stage (probably because she knows I won't go there for either and they want my money but there you go) so I guess I shall just continue to sit tight.

NoCupcakesOrCocktails · 22/01/2013 09:55

Morning, god I've missed a lot!
I've barely had a minute to myself over the past few days. My grandad is in hospital, he is not doing too well so I've been there a lot. I'm the only relative that lives near him and my nan (I'm still 25 miles away!). My mum and sister got here last night thank god as I'm working for the rest of this week so will only be able to go in the evening.

Sparks happy birthday/anniversary! Hope you had a lovely day.

Beedle I missed your post about MrBs results, how is he doing? It's so hard on them when that happens. My DH was very down when we found out his % of normal motile forms was lower than normal.

Keep wow that's fantastic about your DH's results. That's a lot of info from your appointment, as everyone has said you can decide about the number to put back much later on. How are things going with your DSIs?

Sweetie it all sounds great, apart from the fact you've got to wait! The waiting is the worst but it will all be worth it in the end.

Solars and Geek hope you get your appointments soon. I'm resisting chasing mine up at the moment. I would have expected my appointment by now but I think things are probably still delayed due to the clinic being shut over Christmas.

Cartoon I've been thinking of you a lot, hope your feeling ok.

Maybe how are you? Any news on the job front? I've got an interview on friday (its not a proper job as its only to fill in for sickness etc but it would give me experience in that area) and one on Tuesday which I need to do a presentation for. I'm not prepared at all & god knows when I'm going to do this presentation.

NoMaybeAboutIt · 22/01/2013 10:00

Oh Cups I'm sorry about your granddad. I really hope he makes a speedy recovery. Well done on the interview!! That's great news. Are the two interviews for the same job? You'll be great, im brooking no argument. I've had a few interviews and have sat a test. Just playing the waiting game at the moment!

Glad things are better Face

Lovely to see you Loopy

Happy birthday/anniversary Sparks Thanks

Solars · 22/01/2013 12:57

Cups brooking for your grandad, ever so worrying when they get taken into hospital, and I hope you hear from your clinic soon too. Good luck with the interview and presentation.

Maybe brooking you get that job soon.

I had my appointment with my lovely gp this morning. She says she'll get all the bloods done for me but as I thought she couldn't get the amh done, she said she'd tried before with another patient but she couldn't push it through. So we'll get that one done at the new clinic. She also didn't know what a couple of them were either. She was really sweet and said to keep her informed of my progress as she was genuinely concerned about how I am getting on. She told me to leave notes with receptionist as even though she gets copied in all my letters she doesn't necessarily see them unless I come in for an appointment when she reads through everything. I think I'm in love with her!

Face hope you're still sitting tight.

I've decided on an afternoon of baking chocolate hazelnut cookies...

ControlGeek · 22/01/2013 13:20

sparks happy birthday/anniversary!!! Thanks Sorry the snow has ruined your plans, but hopefully you were able to have some family time instead. I love the idea of baking your own cake!

Sweetie that's brilliant news about getting your treatment at the lower cost, that must be a huge help to you. Have they lowered all their fees, do you know, or is it just egg donation/recipient cycles? I'm sorry it's going to be starting a bit later than you hoped, but if it means you can get all properly synched up and everything then it sounds like it will be well worth it.

maybe yay for not having to struggle in for twunty boss! Glad you're enjoying this great weather we're having. Good luck for the interviews and test you've had - brooking you get an amazing job out of it all.

solars I think you're right to put a deadline on sending off the paperwork, otherwise you'll be feeling like you're in limbo for ages if they don't come through quickly. Your GP sounds absolutely Am. Az. Ing. I wish all GPs could be like that. I had my AMH done through the NHS, but that was at the request of my NHS consultant, rather than a GP. It's so frustrating that there are different rules depending on where you live.

loopy I was just wondering the other day if we had any double-brookers on our list - would be fab to see the power of brooking work for you again. two conceived on first cycle eh? I want what you're drinking...

cartoon hope you are feeling a bit more relaxed today. I saw your other thread about the thrush and remember smegs having very similar worries but, from memory (I stand to be corrected!), her GP reassured her the spotting was from the thrush and wasn't a cause for concern.

cups oh you poor thing, how worrying for you - I hope your grandad is ok. It must be hard when you're the only nearby family, but good that you will soon have a bit of support. Good luck for your interview and presentation, is it in a different field to what you've been working in? Experience in a new area is always good, even if it's not permanent, and you never know what opportunities you might find through it.

MrG is finally feeling a bit better, but is still D&Ving so will be off work until at least Thursday or Friday, if he goes back this week at all. I am so sick of bleaching but it's becoming a bit of an obsession. On the plus side, the house has never been so spotless!

I got a reply from my consultant, but I'm scared to let myself believe him until I see the confirmation letter in my hand. He says my op will be either on Monday 18th or Wednesday 20th February. Hopefully this means that the necessary forms have been completed and sent through to the theatre bookings team.

Ladies, I need your advice. I am brooking with all my might that my current cycle will be the same as my last two - 32 days exactly - because that will mean that the op (including D&C) will be a day or two after AF is due. I'm terrified of having a D&C post ov, pre-AF in case that cycle happens to be 'the one'. If I ov late, do you think it best if MrG and I avoid DTD at the appropriate time, just so that that thought isn't even in the back of my mind? Obvs, if I ov on day 19 like the last two cycles it's a moot point.

Sorry for the ramble, I've not had a chance to discuss with MrG yet, and he will probably say he doesn't know and I should do what I think best anyway.

NoMaybeAboutIt · 22/01/2013 13:28

Oh Geek I'm brooking super hard that the forms are all signed properly. I'm guessing they may advice you to abstain from sex anyway. For a HSG you can't DTD after AF. Plus they won't want to give you anaesthetic if there's any chance of pregnancy.

Solars your GP is immense. I'm so pleased she is doing your tests. It's such a relief to have someone on your side

Solars · 22/01/2013 13:41

Geek what is a D&C? And I'm so glad you have possible dates now! I didn't even think before booking my lap about when it should be in relation to ov I just wanted to get it over and done with as soon as possible my lap happened to be a week before ov and as you recall we decided against dtd that month as I wasn't quite ready for it a week post lap. Also on the day of my lap the hospital made me do a pregnancy test, if that helps in any way. Also looking back it felt nice to have that month off and looking forward to getting AF and the next cycle, if you know what I mean. I'm not sure if what I have just written really helps though.
