We have been trying since May 2004 with no joy 2 early mcs.and a bit of a break for me,we have charted, temped, and used persona for 2 mths after that i had to give myself a break after a lot of tears and feelings of emptiness i at last feel ready to try again,so any tips old wives or otherwise will be very gratefully accepted.I have just booked my first appointment to try reflexology. We have both had all the fertility tests and both of us are fine so onwards and upwards for us again.Until our beanie baby makes a long awaited appearance and i at last see the 2 blue lines that dont disappear after a week or so.

hey
please please please dont take angus cactus. It can make underlying problems with fertiliy worse and can actually cause miscarriages even if you stop taking it when you become pregnant. Asprin a day is better. Sorry

I used Calista which tells you when you ovulate. You put a bit of saliva on the tiny microscope and when it dries you look at it. The saliva has a fern pattern when you ovulate - it is amazing! I only seemed to ovulate for about 24hrs, so could have easily missed it. Even though it costs about £20 you can use it over and over again until the battery runs out (about a year or so)

Sorry if I'm repeating as haven't read all the posts, but I'm another Calista fan. It truly is amazing to see a fern pattern in your saliva.
It took 3 cycles using calista for me to get preg. Another tip, (from a GP practice nurse) was to take some cough medicine an hour or so before getting fruity. (Not sure what terms are generally used on here Blush). The reason behind the cough med is that it doesn't only thin the mucous in your chest IYSWIM. Gives the sperm an easier journey. It might just be coincidence, but the month with the cough med was the month we conceived.

Some good tips as well as some pretty weird advice on this thread!!!
A few interesting things to try out I say!
I'm not sure about agnus castus either actually gemmaseascout - I have heard that it can make things worse as well.
I used it this month for the first cycle and it is the only month since I've been testing (about 7 cycles) that I haven't ovulated. This could just be because I think that most women are supposed to miss 1 in 10 (ish) but it is a weird coincidence. Not worth the risk probably?

(Haven't read whole thread but...) what worked for us was when we took a month off TTC. Sounds counter-intuitive when you're wanting to be pg asap, but it gives you a break from the stress.

coggy · 23/03/2006 23:00

Lots of people say that snowleopard...to stop charting and using ov tests. But I can't forget what day I'm on...having a regular cycle (until this month it seems!!)I find it hard to 'switch off' and still think about the 'best time' etc.
I do agree with you but can never quite manage it myself tho'!!

snowleopard · 23/03/2006 23:03

We actually used contraception for a month ( - on doctor's advice, because I was being tested for rubella antibodies and they said I might need treatment and would need to not get pg until results came back). The month after that month off - when I had not been thinking about dates and temps and OV tests for a few weeks - I got pg.

coggy · 23/03/2006 23:05

That is so cool! How long were you ttc?

snowleopard · 23/03/2006 23:06

Not terribly long - just under a year, but it was long enough for me to have started up with all the testing sticks and charting and all that, which I think really can do your head in.

coggy · 23/03/2006 23:09

I agree.
Last time I got quite stressed when dh wasn't around at the 'right time' which seemed to be most months (shifts are NOT helpful when ttc I found!!)
This time I am much more relaxed but still like to know when I'm ov. because I feel a bit more in control even though I'm not really! If that makes sense! :)

I do believe in trying your hardest not to plan and think too much about ttc. Just enjoy lots of sex!

DP and i had been wanting another baby for well over a year. Had a wait for periods to start after depo, then had a couple of normal periods on regular dates, the third month i was a bit later, so got excited about being pg but turned out i wasn't. Because of raised hopes, i then became a bit obsessive about counting days and thinking lots more about pg, still didn't get pg, so told myself to calm down and forget about cycle etc. This month just had regular sex and hey presto! i'm pg.

I really do feel that the less pressure i had put myself under could have helped. And certainly makes it much more of a surprise to discover you are pg!

Good luck to everyone and sorry for gatecrashing.xx

make sure you have an orgasm within 15minutes of ejaculation. This makes the cervix contract, and touch the pool of sperm at the top of vagina, and helps draw the sperm into the channels that run through mucus in the cervix

fresco · 25/03/2006 11:46

gosh, its becoming a very crude business.hehe.thank god there are people like you who dont ming being down to earth.
Is the safest way and perhaps most accurate way to watch out for position of cervix/charting bbt/cm?
meerkatsunit - if you leek after intercourse, do you not loose lots of fishes? thank god you are here to give all those advice!!

fresco · 04/04/2006 10:54
