We have been trying since May 2004 with no joy 2 early mcs.and a bit of a break for me,we have charted, temped, and used persona for 2 mths after that i had to give myself a break after a lot of tears and feelings of emptiness i at last feel ready to try again,so any tips old wives or otherwise will be very gratefully accepted.I have just booked my first appointment to try reflexology. We have both had all the fertility tests and both of us are fine so onwards and upwards for us again.Until our beanie baby makes a long awaited appearance and i at last see the 2 blue lines that dont disappear after a week or so.

We tried for 18 months and then went to Foresight which promote pre-conceptual care. They do a hair test on you and find out which nutrients and minerals you are missing and then put you on lots of pills! I did that, plus reflexology, plus cut down on working hours, plus had a lap & dye and was pregnant within 3 months. For no 2 I just bought the pills from Foresight again, had more reflexology and it took 2 months. Don't give up!

Debbsy, if you use lubricant, there are people who say saliva (TMI?) or KY is not spermfriendly. Suggested egg white (only gave me a rash) or pre-seed, which I understand you can can buy off the internet. In the end, KY worked for me. But if you are willing to try something different ...

Grapefruit juice - 1 glass a day.

There is some scientific reason why it helps but can't remember what it is. My friend says it worked for her and after trying for a while I drank it and fell pregnant that month. Did it do the trick? Goodness knows but certainly won't do any harm. Good luck.

Hi just saw this and thought id add my two pence worth you never know do you? Id advise going to a herbalist first but black cohosh is supposed to be good if ttc. Also where i use to work we use to do something called a theraputic hysterosalpingogram. Basically it checks the patency of your fallopian tubes with a dye under x-ray control, but we found that many women conceived straight after as it use to dilate tubes and clean them out a bit. So ask your gp if they will refer you.

blueshoes · 09/03/2006 13:46

robin3, I have heard of grapefruit juice as well. I think it is supposed to increase cervical mucous

sandyballs · 09/03/2006 13:58

Easier said than done I know, but try not to get too stressed and anxious about it all. Me and DH tried to conceive for 4 years, had one miscarriage, then decided to give up and concentrate on other things. A few months later I was pregnant with twins. Good luck.

relax · 09/03/2006 15:40

hi
i think i have read somewhere that green tea is supposed to be of benefit (? antioxidant) and brazil nuts are good for selenium which i think help sperm formation .

lorre · 09/03/2006 16:35

After trying for over 3 years, I decided it wasn't going to happen so concentrated on other things - nights out, booked a nice holiday etc - two months later I was pregnant. I think there is definitely something to be said for relaxing so the reflexology may help. Good luck !

newkid · 09/03/2006 16:43

yeah, book a really nice once-in-a-lifetime holiday and then you'll fall pregnant within weeks and not be able to go on it. Was trying for more than two years to get pregnant, then we booked holiday and we couldn't go because I'd had bleeding and also wasn't too comfortable about going to a malaria zone while preg. Took dd on rebooked (and slightly changed) luxury holiday at 5 months old.

Actually we are trying for number two and i really am not the best one to give advice as I'm stressing about it already (only a few months in). I thought I had it sussed but we are equally hopeless at timing it this time round as well! Good luck and I think fertility monitoring is worth a try (we also did that right before dd).

Orlando · 09/03/2006 16:44

I've got a book called Fertility by Dr Elizabeth chubb and Jane Knight, which helped us make dd2 happen. It's mainly about temp and cm, but is quite thorough and I'm very willing to pass it on to you Debbsy or anyone else who wants it.

Debbsy · 09/03/2006 21:10

Relax and stop all the ovulating stuff( i done this too) and after 18m the only thing i still done was take my folic acid, dp and i booked a holiday for us and our ds because i didn't think i would get pregnant for another while yet and we also started going out the odd weekend and i would have a few glasses of wine(i had stopped drinking any alcohol thinking this would help), just generally having fun and not thinking about my temp in the morning and then going peeing on those damn sticks helped me relax, in the end i think my mind was all taken up by trying to conceive a baby, thats why i stopped going into Boots and buying all the ovulation stuff. A few months later Bingo i was pregnant and we had to cancel our holiday, but hey what the hell we could go on numerous holidays. That was nearly 3yrs ago now and this year our hoilday is going to be with my dp our ds and our wonderful dd who we waited nearly 2yrs for. Good luck and relax and most of all enjoy the time with your dp

BrilMUM · 10/03/2006 13:19

Hi mate...have you tried douching with bicarbonate soda as your environment might be too acidic.

MeerkatsUnite · 10/03/2006 13:55

Would strongly advise that you do not douche at all.

You're well beyond trying this and temp charting tbh with you.

Most doctors and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) suggest that women steer clear of douching. All healthy vaginas contain some bacteria and other organisms called the vaginal flora. The normal acidity of the vagina keeps the amount of bacteria down. But douching can change this delicate balance. This may make a woman more prone to vaginal infections. Plus, douching can spread existing vaginal infections up into the uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries.

Have you been back to your GP yet to get re-referred?

Debbsy · 10/03/2006 22:13

\link{http://uimc.discoveryhospital.com/main.php?t=symptom&p=tea__coffee__and_conception\Drinking tea} can help. I also found that treating myself to new clothes seemed to make a difference in ttc ds. Got pg right away...

mooshetto · 13/03/2006 00:54

Hi,If you have a 28 day cylcle(meaning you get your period every 28 days)You will ovulate 2 weeks from the START of your period.for example:The start of your last period was 2nd March, you will ovulate on the 16th March. So your most fertile time to start trying would be 13-16th March. And when you finished doing the deed, stay lying down for half an hour or so.Idid this and fell pregnant first time, with alittle girl. This is based on if you get a regular period,so work out how often you get them, its more likely to work if you get your period regularlyand I was told it has an 85% success rate.Good Luck.

wabbitintheheadlamps · 13/03/2006 01:28

Grin about the new clothes, I found this too and still can't get into them 6 months after ds was born!

mooshetto · 13/03/2006 01:51

Its me again,I forgot to tell you that it also took me 12 months to get pregnant with my middle child, after finally finding out I had polycystic ovary syndrome.I was given fertility tablets(I think it was clomid) and fell pregnant straight away.So that may be another option if all else fails.Again good luck and I'm sure you will have a child in your life soon.

gothicmama · 13/03/2006 17:21

avoid vitamin a, eat pumpkin, sunflower seeds and give to partner, remember 14 days before your period is most fertily therefore if on 28 day cycle day 14 or 35 day cycle day 21 or wherever it fits inbetween so bd from 4 days before and 2 after as often as possible but atleast once every 24 hrs

MeerkatsUnite · 13/03/2006 17:26

This 14 day thing that people mention is a very rough guide indeed and not always accurate. Women can easily ovulate earlier, later or not at all in any given cycle. It is therefore quite possible to ovulate on for instance the 7th day or even the 21st.

Even if a woman has a 28 day cycle and is regular ovulation does not always happen on the 14th day and even women with a normal ovulatory cycle can have the occasional anovulatory one.

Also enough sperm will get to the cervix from where they will not escape post intercourse so lying down etc is not necessary. That's another fertility myth thats been banded about.

JennyLee · 13/03/2006 17:52

I took 3 year to get my now 6 year old ds and that was from the age of 18 to the age of 21.
I took folic acid the whole time and charted days and cm but was not not untill I gave up, and me and dh had a random weekend of bding, that I got pregnant. I never went to the doctor for advice as I thought we were too young and I would be patronised. so sometimes fertility is low for uexplained reasons and then it just happens mysteriously. I am off the pill agin most of last year and since january and yet agin nothing has happened and nothing has happened over the years when we have not taken precaautions. am off the pill now so maybe be the time I am in my early 30's might concieve agin. am 28 at the moment. Good luck and relax!!!
