Well I fell off another bus and rather than wait around for the next one I thought I would get another going myself. So have stocked it up with cake, Wine - for the first 2 weeks and Brew - for the 2ww'ers :)

Hoping it will be a lucky bus for lots of us - and I might have a birthday baby :)

Liliana (31) ttc#1 ucl 28 af due 26th March

(I have left out the CD as it is never up to date and all we really want to know is when are people testing!)

Hi Byrnsie! I've got some OV tests on order too... hope they get here in time (on cd 2 at the mo).

Can anyone answer a question about ovulation tests?

From what I know about ovulation (very little!), you're supposed to SWI in the 4-5 days running up to ovulation, then the day itself. No point SWIing after ovulation as the egg will be kaput by then.

So... if the sticks only tell you the day you are ovulating... isn't it pretty much too late by then? Or are you meant to use the knowledge for working out when to SWI in the next cycle? (Assuming you always ov at the same time each cycle).

Does anyone understand what I am rambling about...?

Liliana1 · 07/06/2011 19:27

Just a quick reply as running a bath!
minipie as far as I understand the okp's tell you when you have a surge of some hormone (can't remember which) and your egg is released a day or 2 after that surge so it basically tells you an egg is about to be released go go go Grin

Hi everyone - hoping AF finishes tomorrow. Just spent £25 in supermarket buying: thermometer, pg tests, vitamins, tampons and pantliners....so all bases covered for June!!!! Let the SWI commence - can't wait need a good session anyway seeing as haven't had any for a couple of weeks due to bad pmt then af! Good luck everyone :)

minipie · 07/06/2011 19:43

Ahhhh thanks liliana!

Jebel · 07/06/2011 21:07

Thanks charming for adding me.

minipie - I am seeing a gynae (am not in uk) on my baby-making mission. I use opk but also see her for ultrasound around time of ovulation. I had positive opk on mon am and she told me from ultrasound I would probably ovulate late at night and to swi mon night, tues night and weds. I know that goes against Zita etc who say several days before but my doc says there is still a chance as sometimes ovulation is slightly later than even ultrasound would suggest. When I saw her the previous month 3 days before she thought I would ovulate I asked if I should be swi that night and she said if I wanted to but wasn't necessary. Hope that makes sense. I think the best advice is to swi a few days before and the day you get positive opk and the day after if DH can manage. There are many healthy babies amongst my friends who see the same doc and have a range of fertility issues so I do trust her advice. I am only in my second month of seeing her so fx she is that good!

minipie · 07/06/2011 21:50

Thanks Jebel! Agree that if DH is up for it (so to speak Grin) then there can't be any harm in SWI'ing a day or two after supposed ovulation date as well as before...

will be interested in any other wisdom your gynae has to offer!

Well, after a break from Clomid for PCO I am back aboard the bus. DS1 is a Clomid baby (50mg), DS2 was a miracle. I am on 100mg of Clomid. They've closed the fertility clinic at our hospital now though, so when my lovely fertility nurse left she prescribed me 6 months' worth of Clomid, which I will use without being monitored (have previously done 7 cycles in total so should be alright). Just took first tablets today.

Welcome to the bus twolittlemonkeys, make yourself comfortable. Can you explain what clomid is/does? Sorry ttc #1 and have seen it talked about but never too sure what it is. Whatever it does I hope it goes well for you - we've already had 1 BFP so fx for a lucky bus :)

AmandaCooper · 08/06/2011 07:16

Welcome twolittlemonkeys! Hope this thread's lucky for you.

Jebel · 08/06/2011 07:22

Hello twolittlemonkeys I am on my first cycle of clomid.

Liliana clomid is used for various fertility issues, particularly for people with PCOS. My gynae has prescribed it to me although I don't have PCOS or known fertility problems. For people with irregular cycles, it helps make them regular and force ovulation to occur. Doc says that for me it will just help the follicles open and release the egg and I think also helps stimulate hormones to thicken the endometrium ready for implantation. I am also new to this so am not an expert!

I'm now in 2WW. FX for all.

mrsbullseye · 08/06/2011 15:19

Hello Everyone

Jebel good luck with the 2ww, i'll be there with you from Saturday. I know how frustrating the wait can be, any tips on how you are going to fill in your wait?

I have a quick question regarding SWI. I'm TTC#1 so not that experienced, but always thought that when ttc you should SWI every other day. However I've been lurking in some other threads on here and some people are advising to SWI every day.

Any advice/experience would be appreciated.

Readynow · 08/06/2011 15:27

I thought the same! The NHS websites & others about conceiving just say SWI every other day throughout your cycle will give the best chance, however Fertility Friend seems to suggest SWI every day around ovulation time.

My DH & I are just concentrating SWI around ovulation using OPK & knowledge of my cycles & some months have done every day & other months every other day & still nothing so far!

bridgieboo · 08/06/2011 15:57

Hi all, please can I join the bus.
I've been lurking on MN,in general, for a few months but this is my first post...

Bridgieboo 35,ttc#2,ucl 34ish,AF due 25 June ish. Please add me on as I don't know how to do that Blush

good luck to everybody!!

AmandaCooper · 08/06/2011 17:34

Google the sperm meets egg plan. If I had my way, we'd do that.

mrsbullseye · 08/06/2011 17:50

Cheers for the link AmandaCooper too late this month, but deffo give that a bash next month if not luck this one.

Jebel · 08/06/2011 18:53

mrsbullseye I reckon if DH can manage it, every day around the time of ovulation is good. My gynae tells me every day for 3 days from the moment I positive OPK (manage twice usually). I think every other day throughout cycle is if you're TTC and not tracking when you ovulate.

As for passing the time. Tomorrow I am taking the day off and getting my hair cut, DH and I are spending two nights in a hotel (thought I was ovulating Thurs - doh!) for late anniversary celebration. Otherwise lots of work :( boo

pommedechocolat · 08/06/2011 19:14

Isn't there a theory that every day = less sperm each 'go'??
I like every other day from about 4/5 to 16/17 but something always goes squiffy and then I decided that it's a BFN because we missed that particular day.

Jebel · 08/06/2011 19:37

I don't know for sure but did hear that the less sperm theory was fiction at least for once a day. I have read somewhere that if DP has low sperm count it should be every other day. But caveat caveat as I'm an internet junkie and could be spreading bull!!

ThisCharmingMum · 09/06/2011 00:46

Evening All - or should I say Morning.

I have been at work this evening, got home, had a shower, made myself a toasted bagel and a coffee and got into bed to watch The Apprentice on iplayer. DH sleeping on mattress on floor in other room because of backache so am enjoying being able to bring laptop to bed without disturbing him.

Am wide awake now - probably because of coffee - duh.

Just wanted to welcome all the newcomers. Hope you have brought snacks.

Amanda Totally with you on just wanting AF to come so can get on with the job in hand - ahem.

Just googled sperm meets egg - I kind of planned to do something similar actually, but like pommedechoc says - things always go squiffy. I will be working evenings on the 2 days most likely to be ovulating.

Have done quite a bit of packing for house move today and yesterday in bid to distract self from waitng for AF.

As for supplements modern, I am taking Boots Pre Conception ones. Got them on 3for2 a month ago. DH not taking anything but somebody mentioned Berocca, which he does sometimes take. Need to make it up for him every morning methinks to ensure he takes it.

Right, off to sleep now or I'll end up reading up on making babies till 3am.

melliebobs · 09/06/2011 09:26

Morning all. Good job i reserved my seat early. AF due tommorow, did an early test today and BFN so i'm guessing no Feb baby for us! So much for 3rd time lucky! Cack bags. Ah well, hammer it in the gym tonight, then i'm gonna cheer myself up with a big fat pizza and a couple of beers! Rock on

pommedechocolat · 09/06/2011 10:42

GP very nice to me this am but said that they would no tests or anything until we had been trying for EIGHTEEN MONTHS. That seems a bit insane to me but hey ho.
She def didnt dismiss my endo worries but said will be early and mild if I do have it so won't hinder fertility and only way to confirm is keyhole surgery.
Sperm meets egg says that sperm only live for 2 hours. I don't like it.

AmandaCooper · 09/06/2011 12:59

Eighteen months?? That's mental! How long have you been trying?

stuffthenonsense · 09/06/2011 14:10

hi, is there room for me? first month ttc. af due 5th july, but still breastfeeding and getting old (38). acl 29 days.

Byrnsie30 · 09/06/2011 15:58

Hey all,
I'm still having internet issues so not been able to log on as often as I would like Angry
Welcome to bridgieboo and other new comers.
pommedechocolat I haven't seen sperm meets egg yet but when I watched 'Inside the Human Body' I'm sure it said that the sperm that make it to the fallopian tubes can sleep in there for 2-3 days and are awoken by the release of an egg! (Anyone else remember this? I know a few people off the Feb bus saw that programme)
Think I am still about a week off OV but going to invest in Ov tests. What type and where you getting your from minipie Thought I'd research cheapest Clear Blue suppliers this evening!

Byrnsie30 · 09/06/2011 16:16

Hello again,

I have found Clear Blue Digital, 7 tests, £11.90 on Amazon. Do we think this is a good price? I've not bought them before. What does everyone else think?
