hi, this is probably a weee bit early for some ppl, but im waiting til end of this month to ttc (the desperation, brooding over other peoples babies and feeling jealous of pregnant women , thinking of names and waiting 2 symptom spot kicks in)
so come along and join the journey to motherhood!

My name's Wombat and I'm a poas adict Grin
I use OPK's once a day from the end of AF and then twice a day when I think I'm about to ov so I don't miss it. I've even been known to continue to poa-opk after the :) has come and gone, just in case I get a second high if stress or something prevents ov the first time Blush Obsessed?? Moi??? Grin

I've also been poa-HPT daily since 8dpo (got my first vv faint + on 9dpo - 30/12/10 - my justification was that I was testing early to see whether I neeeded to take non-alcoholic beverages away for new year...) and for the last few days I've been po 1 FR and 1 CB digtial every day Blush

If that doesn't make you ladies feel better about your own poas obsession, I don't know what will Grin Grin

Bumpsadaisie · 06/01/2011 11:00

Bless you my child Wombat, you are absolved of all your sins ... Grin Congrats on your BFP - is it your first?

Bumpsadaisie · 06/01/2011 11:03

Ah yes Wombat, I see you are TTC your first - very sorry to read that you had a mc previously. Wishing you all luck in the world with this baby.

You are not alone - if you look at some of the charts on Fertility Friend there are women who do a pregnancy test every day for about 7 days! It's sweet to see all those little BFPs in a line. Smile

Daisybell1 · 06/01/2011 11:04

Wombat I love you!

Having been holding on here at 12 or 13 dpo but am caving and going to be sensitive test at lunchtime. But know it will be a BFN though, just want to get it over with!

Karbea · 06/01/2011 11:18

Hello,

This is my first post on Mumsnet Shock so please be kind Smile

My fiancé and I decided to start trying for a baby and this is our first month of trying. I "think" (i'm using the P Tracker Lite App)I ovulated on Jan 1st. My period is due on the 15th, so I think this means i'm on the right bus???

We are both 37 and have never had any other pregnancies so we don't know how easy/hard this is going to be for us, but we gave it a good try this month Wink

So... any help/advise etc would be lovely, and lovely to meet you all!

K. xx

Wombat33 · 06/01/2011 11:25

Bumps yes, it's my first. I suspect if I had another child/ren to contend with I wouldn't have so much time to obsess about peeing on sticks! The MC is partly to blame for the obsession this time around - last time I just 'knew' right from the first positive test that things weren't right and the repeated testing confirmed that my HCG levels weren't rising as they should. This time round I've felt a bit sick since before AF was due so I'm feeling a bit more optimistic (after a huge panic initially that it was all going wrong again - such are the risks of finding out at only 9 dpo) but I'm still going to wait until by CB Digis tell me I've gone from 2-3 weeks to 3 weeks+ before I officially graduate on this list if that's okay Grin

Daisy glad it makes you feel better :) Good luck with your test - are you going to wait and use fmu tomorrow or try and do it this afternoon?

Good luck to you all!!

Wombat33 · 06/01/2011 11:27

Welcome Karbea! Good luck to you and your fiancé - I hope you get some 'beginner's luck' this month Wink

Bumpsadaisie · 06/01/2011 11:47

Wombat -

Totally understandable - I was equally obsessed last time round. It didn't stop even when I was actually pregnant, I scoured wikipedia for all possible information about fetal development and childbirth. I don't think it did me much good actually - made the whole pregnancy seem to take forever! This time round will be more blase I think - too tired as much as anything! Fingers and everything else crossed for you.

So, in your expertise, which brand of stick do you think it best for me to buy to test with tomorrow morning?

I am now on day 34 of my cycle. I can't concentrate at work and have just spent 30 mins calculating my cycle lengths over the last year, which include getting back to normal following DD and BFing. The longest one was 33 days (one cycle, a year ago). In the last six months one has been 31 days, the rest 30 days or 29 days ... starting to get quite excited/terrified.... Confused

Bumpsadaisie · 06/01/2011 11:54

Oooh Daisy, do let us know what happens! Fingers crossed for you.

Welcome Karbea - all the best to you both! You can find out if you are on the "right" bus by using a due date calculator (just google it) - you put in date of last period and usual cycle length, and it tells you when the due date would be.

Daisybell1 · 06/01/2011 11:56

Hi Wombat

Am not sure, as I know that FMU is far better, however once I have that tempting little stick in my hands, I may cave in and do it anyway (given its going to be a BFN).

Karbea · 06/01/2011 11:57

Bumpsadaisie Thanks - yep just checked and currently on the right bus... baby would be due 23rd Sept.

Wombat33 · 06/01/2011 12:02

Ooooh Bunps that's sooo exciting!! I now have everything crossed for both of you!! As for sticks - my favs are the FR ones, though I've heard good things on here about the Supeprdrug own brand ones (I don't have a Superdrug nearby so never used one). I'm always terrified of testing with the digitals in case they tell me 'not pregnant', somehow I find it easier to deal with being able to squint at the lines Grin

Daisy You'd better buy a 2 pack then Wink

Daisybell1 · 06/01/2011 13:00

Have POAS and I was right, BFN.

Am ok, I knew I wasn't so its a relief to have it confirmed.

On to the next cycle and next bus now Smile

Daisybell1 · 06/01/2011 13:30

Oh and now I've looked at it again, within the 30 minute window and there's a pale line.

Why did I do that????? Confused

I've spent the last 25 minutes cheering myself up with the thought of eating pate, stilton and brie this evening Grin

Bumpsadaisie · 06/01/2011 13:32

Daisy, when is your period due? Could well not be too late.

Do you KNOW that you are 12/13 DPO?

I think you should test again in 2 days, with FMU.

Daisybell1 · 06/01/2011 13:38

hi there,

Yes, I know ovulation was christmas day because I use a Persona monitor which gives me a lovely shiny egg symbol Grin. Love my persona, and we know its accurate as we've used it for contraception for a long time now.

AF due Monday or Tuesday, but I could do with knowing by Saturday morning if its likely or not as OH need help scanning 600 ewes that day (whilst threatening to scan me at the same time Confused)

Wombat33 · 06/01/2011 13:56

Ooh Daisy very exciting! Did you buy a second test so you can use fmu tomorrow morning? Might be best to avoid the paté, stilton and brie this evening though, just in case!

Daisybell1 · 06/01/2011 14:20

Hi Wombat, now I know why all tests are sold in 2 packs! Once for doing ridiculously early, and once for a little bit later on....

But am not getting hopes up, just in case. A friend has just told me she's 16 weeks along and I'm delighted for her, but its just made me realise how much I'd like this to be a BFP Envy

Damn re the brie - was looking forward to that Wink

Karbea · 06/01/2011 14:44

Hello,

My again...

Should I be avoiding paté, stilton and brie - I thought this was only important after you are pregnant?

What's POAS?
And BFN/BFP - worked out Negative/Positive but what are the BF's for?

xx

Karbea · 06/01/2011 14:45

Me not My... can you edit posts?

Daisybell1 · 06/01/2011 14:51

Hi there Karbea

I'm only just getting my head round it all and especially the terms....

POAS is Pee On A Stick Grin

and the BFs are Big Fat (although for ages I thought it meant Blue For (ie the colour of the line)....

Apparently you're supposed to avoid all the bad stuff if there's a chance of being pregnant as well as once its confirmed....

Wombat33 · 06/01/2011 14:57

Karbea I've never worked out how to edit posts so if you can I'd be interested to hear!

Re paté, stilton & brie - you're right they are things to avoid during pregnancy. Because you don't find out you are pregnant for a couple of weeks after you conceive (when the fertilised egg implants and the hormones get strong enough to show up on a test and/or you miss your period) some women chose to avoid these things during the 2WW (the "two week wait" - the 2 weeks between ovulation and period (otherwise known on here at AF (Aunt Flo) or RTD (Red tide of doom)!). Same goes for alcohol, rare meat etc etc.

Other women decide that a few 'banned' foods at that early stage are unlikely to make any difference so carry on as normal until they POAS (pee on a stick - in this case an HPT (home pregancy test), POAS is also used for peeing on an OPK (ovulation ppredictor kit stick)) and get their BFP (big fat positive) or BFN (big fat negative).

Hope that answers your questions!

Wombat33 · 06/01/2011 14:58

x-posts with Daisy who put it far more succinctly than me!!

Karbea · 06/01/2011 15:52

Aww thanks ladies!

This is going to be like learning another language! Confused

jaggythistle · 06/01/2011 16:20

Hello, as predicted by FF I am off to the October bus now. Hopefully won't see too many of you remaining passengers there ;)

It was actually quite cool to know by the fact that my temperature went right down today, that AF would be right along.

Good luck everyone
