hi, this is probably a weee bit early for some ppl, but im waiting til end of this month to ttc (the desperation, brooding over other peoples babies and feeling jealous of pregnant women , thinking of names and waiting 2 symptom spot kicks in)
so come along and join the journey to motherhood!

dualta · 05/01/2011 07:32

Hi everyone
i'd like to join this bus -ttc no1 (just started) and very new to all of this - boards are fascinating as well as the support. Still getting my head around the acronyms but AF due 16/17 Jan. I've read not to get hopes up too much that it can take a while and haven't really done any prep but you never know! We only just made the decision to bite the bullet on new years eve Wink. Good luck everyone it looks as though lots of people will be finding out news at the moment!

MrsHende · 05/01/2011 07:48

Hi dualta welcome aboard! Fingers crossed you have beginners luck!

Back to work today, thank goodness, I'm beginning to obsess...!

jaggythistle · 05/01/2011 08:03

my new year's resolution is NOT TO TEST EARLY!

still negative today at 12dpo.

definitely felt more symptoms this cycle, but my temp went way down today too, so think af is on way. next month there will only be testing if she is missing as i am just annoying myself.

good luck everyone else!

Teds77 · 05/01/2011 09:49

jaggy you didn't last long with that resolution Grin!

Fingers crossed you get a bfp - I think you only get 90%+ accuracy from 14dpo.

Welcome dualta

Greedychops · 05/01/2011 10:02

Just a quick jump on to say - similarly to jaggythistle - starting to go a little mad with the poas and it being ng as I definitely feel very different this month.

If it's not pg, then either I'm going mad, or I am ill. Feeling hot, a little nauseous and sure I have had a metallic taste a few times, but think that's because my gums have been bleeding slightly.

Good to see one or two bros since last time I was on, but hope there are lots more before the bus reaches the depot.

Think I will test again tomorrow. Remember with previous pgs that I used first response and got a bfp well before af due, but this time couldn't justify the expense around Christmas so bought cheaper tesco own brand ones, but am now slightly regretting that.

jaggythistle · 05/01/2011 11:03

haha Teds, i meant to say that resolution starts today. a bit belated!

i got a positive at 11dpo last time so have got a bit carried away this time. :)

Bumpsadaisie · 05/01/2011 12:01

Hi everyone

Have been following this with interest - my AF was due yesterday but no sign so far. Have metal taste, dreadful backache (but could be the painkillers have taken for the backache!)

Plan to test on Friday if no AF by then, as although my period was due yesterday, I won't be 14 DPO till Friday, I don't think.

If its a BFP we will be thrilled and terrified. If a BFN we'll be v disappointed but relieved too! (Had friends with 2 little ones to stay at New Year - I think it could well be hard work!!)

TBH what I dread most is if I had another pregnancy where I was so ill in the first trimester as I was with DD. But as everyone says, all pregnancies are different ... so I will cling onto that thought and remind myself that pregnancy is a blessing whether you feel dreadful or not!

Good luck to everyone
Bumpsx

OutIntoTheBlue · 05/01/2011 15:09

Hello everyone waves

Well it appears I must have nodded off at the back of the bus and have missed all the gettings on and off while I was away in the land of nod no internet connection at the in-laws.

Unfortunately I'll have to get off myself now, Sad AF having joined me bang on time on Dec 29th. I've stopped sulking now, got my internet back (so can now read back through this thread), found some PMA for next cycle so I'll be flagging down the October bus when it passes.

TheCake · 05/01/2011 18:23

Firstly i'd like to say congratulations to Jojay and Jimmijam for their bfps and a big hug to everyone who was not successful this month. I thought I better update as I am moving up to the front of the bus- no symptoms- my breasts feel bigger- but I think all of the food I've eaten over Christmas has gone to my cleavage! As I've just come off the pill and my first cycle was 45 days!!! I'm not sure when I am due on- I did look for and had EWCM (I think) and managed to SWI over those days but am not hopeful I've had success.

I've got a moan coming up but my OH understandably does not want me to use opk or temps as he does not want to make the process clinical and I suppose I agree. It's only been one month but I'm annoying in that once I get something in my head I want it to happen and then can't stop thinking about it- wish I could just chill out!!

Rant over.... will test on Sunday and report back then! Xx

TheCake · 05/01/2011 18:33

By the way that does not mean I think it's bad other people us opk kits- I'd like to if my husband was up for it- at the moment he isn't - which I can understand since it's our first month of trying!

nannyl · 05/01/2011 18:46

jaggythistle · 05/01/2011 19:03

congratulations!

must have been a lovely new year's day.

i got a bfp on hogmanay two years ago so had a due date of 12th September. according to my survey of 1, September babies are great. :)

jaggythistle · 05/01/2011 19:12

please replace the word so with the word and in the above post. obviously the day i did the test has nothing to do with what my due date was!

The list maker returns :o

I've updated, welcome dualta, sorry to see you go OutIntoTheBlue and congrats nannyl, first month trying and everything!!!

I have to say that when we started TTC in early summer I was just going to relax and have sex every other day, which DH was quite happy to go along with, months and months later am temping, using ovi sticks and other various horrible things which I'll not go into!!! Love this website, but it does encourage you to obsess a little, which I undoubtably would do anyway, so best to do it here than constantly let my DH into all the gorey details!!!

dualta · 05/01/2011 21:18

thanks twojackrussells (love the name change!) and Teds and MrsHende for the welcome! Ive just checked UCL its 32 if you want to add to the list. Totally agree with you I can't believe how easy it is to verge into obsessing, hopefully will calm down....PS whats the earliest you can do a test...? UH ohhh

Teds77 · 05/01/2011 22:26

Congrats nannyl what a lovely NY's present Grin

I decided to get an opk in the third month of trying 'just that one time' of course!

I tend to only need to use two or three sticks a month as I'm pretty regular so obviously I'm actually saving money and being totally chilled the other 24 days of the cycle... Ahem.. Confused

Anyway, I decided I would try something new this month and have just booked to go skiing in February. I've never been before so I'm sure that the prospect of me damaging myself on a snowy mountain side will ensure that Mr Sperm and Ms Egg do their business properly this month. Here's hoping anyway!

Teds77 · 05/01/2011 22:46

duelta just spotted your query - it depends whether you are happy to get an inaccurate result and how much money you want to spend Smile

There is a thread that's called something like 'why you shouldn't do early tests' that might be worth checking out for some good stats. Lots of people on it seem pretty deadset against early testing and I can see their points but I don't think it's a terrible thing to do. No one gets hurt - you just risk disappointment and a lighter wallet. I've tested early and am sure loads on this thread are guilty of this crime Blush

The very earliest you are likely to get a bfp (with a sensitive test) is probably 10dpo. That could be roughly four days before your period (depending on your cycle length). However, I think at that stage even if you are pg you are just as likely to get a bfn - i.e. the result is only about 50% accurate (others may want to correct me). So testing this early could mean you get a false negative.

It's only when you get to 14dpo that the accuracy gets up to around 90%. For many people that's the day AF is due. So if AF doesn't arrive it's probably worth a test and you can be relatively confident the result is accurate.

The other thing worth I've read about on MN's is the possibility of a 'chemical' pregnancy, where perhaps the egg gets fertilised (giving you a bfp test) but it doesn't implant. In this case you might get a bfp before your AF arrives but then she arrives pretty much on time and you're not pg after all. Again, I guess it's just a case of whether you are prepared for the disappointment.

Long post - sorry! DH is out watching football and I'm all alone

jaggythistle · 06/01/2011 07:21

Temp even lower today, so despite my slightly raised hopes, I expect to be off to catch the October bus by tomorrow at latest.

I am feeling better about next cycle already though, now that I have decided to behave and leave any testing till it actually makes sense to do it. :)

dualta · 06/01/2011 08:09

Thanks Teds thats great really clear. I'm waiting on some ebay cheapie tests and I know I just won't be able to delay gratification once they arrive(!). Not really expecting much and no symptoms (although starting to think I am smelling things and having weird dreams but I bet that is my mind playing tricks) and trying already to bargain with myself that I will be able to drink on a weekend away when nothing happens Smile
Thanks for all the info, trying not to overwhelm my other half with info and nobody knows so this is a great place to talk to people in a similar boat.

Greedychops · 06/01/2011 09:29

Hi dualta - I have previously been a convert to early testing cause I just can't help myself, but I think I was lucky before as I got early results with my last two pgs, but this time, I feel pg, but keep getting bfns.

Af due tomorrow or Saturday so will try and leave testing till Saturday now. Only have one last tesco cheapy test anyway, and don't fancy buying more.

Bumpsadaisie · 06/01/2011 10:09

Good luck Dualta. I'm going to test tomorrow morning if no AF by then! Gulp ...

Bumpsadaisie · 06/01/2011 10:10

Also good luck to Jaggythistle - its not over till af turns up ...

Bumpsadaisie · 06/01/2011 10:13

And good luck to Greedychops too ...
