SlartyBartFast · 01/12/2009 22:32

fairy tale of new york.
merry christmas - slade

i am sure i will think of more nearer the time.

when i first clicked i was going to post
In a Bleak Mid Winter, but that of course is a carol,
but i still love it

shockers · 01/12/2009 22:34

Fairytale of NY... saw the Pogues live at Christmas... it always brings a tear but was especially poignant at that moment.

Driving Home For Christmas reminds me of an ex boyfriend that used to work away a lot... I had a Christmas job at Next and it was one of the songs on their Christmas tape... brings back feelings of excitement and anticipitation that are peculiar to that relationship.

The new one by the Noisettes makes me think of my new house and new town (which I'm not in yet) so more anticipation of happy times with my family

Band Aid....

The whole of 'A Christmas Gift for You from Phil Spector', esp. Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer, Frosty The Snowman, Sleigh Ride, Winter Wonderland, and all the others.....

The Jackson 5 Christmas album is pretty good, even better is 'A Motown Christmas', which includes half-a-dozen off the Jackson 5 album, some choice cuts by Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, and Diana Ross & The Supremes.

HappyChristmasFromKimi · 02/12/2009 08:19

Fairytale of New York
Merry Xmas War is Over by John Lennon
Bruce Springsteen singing Santa Claus is Coming to Town
Alien For Christmas by Fountains of Wayne
(and The Shepherd's Farewell from L'Enfance Du Christ by Berlioz if you want something more traditional - feeling all festive now )

alana39 · 02/12/2009 09:34

Oh yes EverythingCounts had forgotten about the Waitresses, Christmas Wrapping also one of the best

AttilaTheMeerkat · 02/12/2009 10:34

Christmas Wrapping by the Waitresses. Good Christmas song that.

Guess when it was originally released?.

1981!!!!!

Has stood the test of time well,

MamaGoblin · 02/12/2009 10:53

I have a huge fondness for Let It Snow, because it makes me feel warm and cosy and safe, and wishing fervently that I lived in a 1940's wooden house in Vermont with an open fire.

Love Fairy Tale too, of course.

Also secretly admit to loving the Maria Carey one!

But my absolutely favourite, best Christmas tune, the one that always puts me in the mood (and I've even been playing it in the car the last few days ) is Sleigh Ride.

Bomper · 02/12/2009 11:00

Last Christmas - Wham
Fairytale of New York - Pogues/Kirsty MacColl
I Believe in Father Christams - Greg Lake

WeThreeNinks · 02/12/2009 11:11

"When a Child is Born".

My little cousin was born on the 8th and it was on the radio. I was only five but I remember getting the news of the new baby and looking out of the window at the North Star and thinking how wonderful and miraculous life and everything was

Also "We Three Kings" because I like songs in a minor key, but hate it when it's played too slow. It's a galloping tune and sounds really dirge-like otherwise.

hatebeak · 02/12/2009 11:25

I Was Born On Christmas Day - St Etienne.
The Low Christmas album is wonderful as well.

Nancy66 · 02/12/2009 11:30
