Another vote for I Believe in Father Christmas by Greg Lake. It's my fave song ever . It just sounds how Christmas should be.

GetOrfMoiLand · 01/12/2009 15:44

Christmas (W)rapping by the Waitresses - the ultimate Xmas song, I love it.

I LOVE it when they start playing Christmas songs on the radio.

Plus, I love Christmas Carols. I am not religious at all, however I am planning to go to Gloucester cathedral this year for the carol service and sing my heart out, god rest ye merry gentlemen etc. I will get evicted I excpect, my voice isnt the best.

RockBird · 01/12/2009 15:46

Fairytale of New York here too

TinselinaBumsquash · 01/12/2009 15:47

I always listen to Fairytale in New York before going to bed Xmas eve, it makes me all tingly and Christmassy!

AttilaTheMeerkat · 01/12/2009 15:53

"Stop the Cavalry" by Jonah Louie.

For me there ARE only 3 xmas songs -

Fairytale of NY - amazing how one song be so funny and yet so moving.

Santa Baby - but only the Eartha Kitt version (it's soooo good)

and the other one which I don't have because I don't know what it's called or who sings it... can anyone help? it's the one about (American) girl going out to get cranberry sauce. Any ideas?

InmyheadIminParis · 01/12/2009 16:35

But I will run out of any shop playing Slade's I Wish It Could Be Xmas tearing my ears off.

cakeywakey · 01/12/2009 16:38

I love Silver Bells by Jim Reeves, or pretty much any Christmas song by Jim Reeves. Dear Senor Santa Claus is fabulously cheesy

The exception to my rule is Old Christmas Card. It's crap.

pofacedandproud · 01/12/2009 16:41

Faiytale of New York.
The Coventry Carol.

TinyPawz · 01/12/2009 16:43

funniest xmas song ever I be in wrinkles every time.

IMoveTheStarsForNoOne · 01/12/2009 16:44

Fairytale of NY here too.

Isn't there a Killers xmas song?

Raychill · 01/12/2009 16:59

The Snoopy one & the George Michael one
(I think "Snoopys Christmas" and "Last Christmas".

Oh & the Eagles - Please come home for Christmas - good for slow dancing

MadameDuBain · 01/12/2009 17:24

Ooh I love the Mariah Carey one - also hate her stuff but love that song.

Also the Ricky Tomlinson one, Christmas My Arse. I find it strangely moving too - no really! It really sums up how annoying it all is and yet how you get kind of schmaltzy as well.

Christmas comes but once a year,
Loads of laughs and loads of tears,
Close the door and kiss the year goodbye!

Come on in, sing loud and clear,
Have 1 mince pie, 12 pints of beer,
Raise your glass, say christmas, My Arse!

borderslass · 01/12/2009 17:28

fairytale of new york
wizzards I wish it could be Christmas every day

TillyMintSpy · 01/12/2009 17:29

Fairytale of N Y here too!

bellissima · 01/12/2009 17:29

Inmyhead surely its Roy Wood and Wizard who did 'I wish it could be Xmas'?! Slade are 'So here it is, Merry Christmas.."
(And I am very old).

Rather like Mud's Elvis rip-off 'It'll be Lonely this Christmas'. Merry Christmas Les, wherever you are...

bellissima · 01/12/2009 17:31

borderslass - you are right it's wizzard with two zzs. oops. I'm old and losing it.

Last0rders · 01/12/2009 17:33

Christmas Rapping - The Waitresses. Fantastic reference to cranberry sauce

&

Driving home for Christmas - Chris Rea. Makes me think of my mum!

I second the Phil Spector album - it's a work of art and should have a place in everyones cd collection

Sibble · 01/12/2009 17:38

4 categories

feeling child like - little donkey in very loud voice

feeling sentimental - white christmas (wipe a tear)

from childhood or want to act stupid at a party etc - Slade or Wizzard

just like because it's blardy good - fairytale of NY

strongblackcoffee · 01/12/2009 17:39

Mary's boy child!!!

And another vote for fairytale.

And sometimes Mariah Carey...

Linnet · 01/12/2009 17:45

Fairytale of New York and a Slade song, not sure what it's called though the one about looking to the future now it's only just begun.
Also frosty the snowman

ImSoNotTelling · 01/12/2009 17:51
  1. simply having a wonderful christmas-time by paul mccartney

2&3. slade and wizzard

  1. stop the cavalry

Then play the same 4 songs in the same order again and again and again until someone goes bananas and makes me stop.

Fimbo · 01/12/2009 17:52

Last Christmas - Wham

When A Child Is Born - Johnny Mathis
