Is it normal to think/be excited for Christmas this early?

I suspect not but I’m already thinking about Christmas 🫣 not that the general plan ever changes, we always have it just me, dh and dc at home (no one ever wants to go away, which I’m fine with). Do other people also think about it so early in the year??

No. It’s May.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 29/05/2026 22:37

If I plan now then I can order things , budget , plan.
We go away in early December for a few days . My DS birthday is December .
I have a few days over Christmas usually 24/25/26 off work then I work till NY .

I hear so many stressed people getting annoyed with queues, deliveries , not getting their turkey .

Zov · 29/05/2026 22:38

I love Christmas, but being excited about it in May is batshit. (IMO.)

BiddyPopthe2nd · 30/05/2026 09:57

OP, YANBU.
I am not active on it at the moment as life has thrown too many curveballs recently, but there’s an annual “Christmas all year round” type thread, just focussed on the Christmas spirit. And a “bargain hunters “ thread as well. Both on the Christmas board and have lovely communities with both….i recognise some posters on this one already.

Have a look at the Christmas board on here and find your tribe. 🤶

BiddyPopthe2nd · 30/05/2026 09:58

Sorry, just realised this IS on the Christmas board 🤣. Why all the hate in that case?!

CiderGlider · 30/05/2026 18:31

When I was painting my outside fence I thought it would be nice when I have the Christmas lights up!

When it does cross my mind I feel excited, which is a lot at the moment as I’m plannning a trip to NYC just before Christmas. I’ve always wanted to at Christmas and it’s a big birthday this year so we’re going!

mumofoneAloneandwell · 30/05/2026 20:25

M&s are doing a huge sale, up to 50% off

Just got myself a duvet x

Cherryrainbow · 30/05/2026 22:24

We’re having a new kitchen fitted in Autumn and I’m already planning where the Christmas decs can go! I’m having shelves and an extractor mantle just so that u can decorate them at Christmas 😂.

DaisyDooley · 03/06/2026 16:28

No it’s not normal
Enjoy the summer then you have something to get excited about when autumn hits.

PumpkinSpicedTea · 03/06/2026 20:40

I think unfortunately the way your worded the question and asked if it is "normal" hasn't helped the replies.

I personally get excited at random points throughout the year. I am a summer baby but prefer autumn, and the lead up to Christmas.

I like and agree with @Sideorderofchips point of people who are thinking about their summer holidays in winter don't get the same backlash and it is basically the same thing! Even people who start planning next summer's holiday when they just return from one.

No, it's not normal - but embrace it!

I start planning in July btw! 🤫

Great! Romance TV channel is showing back-to-back Christmas films already! 💝

mumofoneAloneandwell · 04/06/2026 13:23

Op, ive got Miracle on 34th Street on today whilst I clean the living room

Christmas in New York is my raison d'etre (besides my child and dcat ofc!)

BCBird · 04/06/2026 14:17

Nope!!!!

CharlesPetrescu · 04/06/2026 17:55

You have stuff to look forward to before that, I hope OP

ITSSSSCHRISTMASSS · 05/06/2026 00:32

Love Christmas, I start planning the years Christmas straight after Christmas Day. That dosnt mean I don’t love the rest of the year, I don’t see it as any different to booking a summer holiday in advance to pay it off, I like to plan and spread the cost of Christmas too, I’ve already got a few bits put away.

No idea 🤷‍♀️.

They get very cross when you suggest they unfollow this board too 🤔.

Exactly - my DH booked (low deposit , more choice) a cruise for us last year for 2027 .
He loves to plan and research .
At no point do I say "FFS Barry , you are wishing my life away "

  • He isn't called Barry
And he doesn't say anything when I buy Christmas things in March or plan in my Christmas Notebook

I’ve got the sprouts on.

I like mine mushy.

Cherryblossom6754 · 07/06/2026 10:10

I always have it in the back of my mind and look forward to Christmas too. As I think of things to do or buy I make a note.
We have booked a special Christmas trip this year which is a surprise so I'm excited about that and planning things to make it even more fun!
You can plan Christmas stuff and enjoy / be fully present in Summer 🙂
Might have a big Christmas party this year too!

mbosnz · 07/06/2026 14:46

Well, I'll happily sit in the abnormal corner with you! I have to start thinking of it early anyway - to get things and get them away to NZ - well, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

Then there's the fact that we'd be sitting down to Christmas dinner, and Mum would start planning NEXT year's Christmas dinner - so maybe it's genetic!

I've just found out today that not only will one daughter be in China, but t'other one will likely be having Christmas with him and his family - so I'm starting to think ahead to our first Christmas just the two of us in 24 years. . .

ImImmortalNowBabyDoll · 07/06/2026 15:25

I love summer, I'm definitely not wishing it away.

I'm also thinking about Christmas.

Thinking about it now means I can get the best prices and seats at the theatre and other events we want to go to, and also I will start picking up little gifts for stockings and advent calendar as I see them.

That's reminded me that today I want to purchase tickets for The Jolly Christmas Postman at the Lowry, and The North Pole Experience in Liverpool.

I'm thinking that since most of our house is decorated quite traditionally (red, green, gold and white) at Christmas time, this year I'm going to invest in some "dopamine" pastel decorations for my daughter's room. I picked up a mini pink tree in January. Maybe I'll make the baubles part of the advent calendar.

I don't think thinking about the future means wishing away the present. Aren't people already booking holidays for 2027? It doesn't mean we want 2026 over with!

AutumnLover1990 · 09/06/2026 10:39

Not sure why OP is getting a hard time. Do whatever makes you happy. If thinking about Christmas is it,then why not? Life is hard enough so go for it 👍

Personally I start getting excited about August(when the mince pies hit the supermarket 😊),and September when the schools go back. Then I'll start pestering everyone for gift ideas. 🌲🎅😁

Sanguinello · 09/06/2026 10:41

Openmouthinsertfood · 23/05/2026 12:32

Yes, I've bought three presents already, some Christmmas wrapping paper and a Christmas haul of decorations from Temu. Also whilst knitting Christmas projects the other day had Christmas films on in the background.
Those people that moan and say you're wasting the year - Why is it ok to yearn for summer, or look forward to a holiday, isn't that two sides of the samme coin? You're just looking forward to what you enjoy the most.

Yes true
