Is it normal to think/be excited for Christmas this early?

I suspect not but I’m already thinking about Christmas 🫣 not that the general plan ever changes, we always have it just me, dh and dc at home (no one ever wants to go away, which I’m fine with). Do other people also think about it so early in the year??

No not normal!

I feel weird even watching a Christmas episode of something on the telly in mid summer!

RebeccaRedhat · 23/05/2026 19:54

I used to when my children were little. I struggle to find the enthusiasm now, but that could also be perimenopause! It my middle childs birthday next week ans a few yeats ago I would have wrapped by now but ive not even bought everything!

PrincessSassy · 23/05/2026 20:05

I love it when binge watching a series and you get a Christmas special, it makes me so excited. I always look forward to Christmas, well the run up really, from beginning of November once the markets start and lights go up in town. It's just magical, I've got a big smile on my face just typing about it.

I always think that if it is ok for people to wish for summer in winter then it is fine to wish for Christmas in the summer

I’ve never thought about it in this way, but I agree with you so much!!!

In the winter, many people say they are looking heard to summer, and their summer holidays. I bet no one calls them mentalists!

I am absolutely not going to a year round Christmas shop on Monday.
nope.
not me.

EwwSprouts · 23/05/2026 20:34

No. It suggests your ability to enjoy the present is lacking.

chickenss · 23/05/2026 20:35

The only point of Christmas is to make winter bearable.

Squirrelchops1 · 23/05/2026 20:36

We have to think about it on terms of work want to know if we want time off from about now. However on a personal level, no. I start to tentatively think about it after Halloween

Wolverine23 · 23/05/2026 20:40

I put my Christmas tree up on the summer solstice and watch home alone whilst eating mice pie. Never too early

CoudyWithAChanceOfCustard · 23/05/2026 20:43

I’m a huge fan of Christmas…but Christ on a bike OP!! It’s not even on my radar!

I start to think about it some time in November…and start to actually do anything constructive about it once the calendar turns over into December.

Honestly think this is nuts! 😵‍💫

YABU

Fraughtmum · 23/05/2026 20:53

I'm thinking about which cottage to stay in to get away from it! No decs, no gifts, no cards, no traditional food.

Wexone · 23/05/2026 20:59

No sweet lord no. its only May we haven't even had the longest day of the year. I know parts of the UK are getting fabulous weather at the mo but here in Ireland it has been cold untill last week and lots of rain. we have not had a tiniest bit of a boost of any sun or a bit of heat. life is too frigging short and it goes way to quickly stop and enjoy what our lives are currently
just to add I don't give Xmas a thought really untill at least October I hate the fact we will start seeing Xmas stuff in the shops come August

Crushed23 · 23/05/2026 20:59

Absolutely not, no. I start thinking about it very late November, just after Thanksgiving. Tree goes up first week of December usually.

I don’t do most of the shit people (mostly women) run themselves into the ground trying to do and only buy for one person (DP), so there’s nothing to think about / plan ahead.

SquigglePigs · 23/05/2026 21:17

I don't think about it particularly but I do always have half an eye out for presents when I'm in interesting shops so I do have some presents bought already.

EmmaB1309 · 23/05/2026 22:02

In general I never think about Christmas until at least sept/oct. In fact as I get older I find that I’m less inclined to want to wish time away like that. I do think it’s slightly weird to look forward to it this early but it’s not hurting anyone so why not?
I think it makes more sense if you are looking forward to something specific about this Christmas eg first Christmas as a parent/grandparent or in a new home or going abroad or planning a particularly exciting gift for someone.

LassitersLegend · 23/05/2026 22:51

I start thinking about next Christmas on boxing day, I love Christmas!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 23/05/2026 23:17

I have already bought some socks for my adult son's December 1st Box .
Xmas Grin
They get (DD and DS) underwear , pyjamas/leisurwear, toiletris, make-up for DD , nail polish etc.

I was thinking today about the Sainsbury Taste the Difference Limencello Panetonne and hoping they bring it back ( not a fan of the raisins ones or chocolate chip . )

And when I was in the shower , I was wondering if the Beauty advent Calendars were already being planned ?

Nooooooooo

Namechangefordaughterevasion · 24/05/2026 02:36

I've only just finished the washing up from last Christmas.

BooneyBeautiful · 24/05/2026 02:48

ShetlandishMum · 23/05/2026 07:46

I have done quite a lot of my gift shopping.

Me too, but I won't think about it again until about September.

MermaidMummy06 · 24/05/2026 02:57

I thought, just yesterday, that it's almost June... Only 6 months to Christmas. Bugger. I hate it.

There's always a push-pull of which family we go to, which lately is splitting the day to keep everyone else (except me) happy, having about an hour to do our own gifts etc. All gift buying is on me, etc. DM getting worked up about food 3 months out.

I'd enjoy it if it was just is & DC, tbh.

Jstarr7 · 24/05/2026 08:20

Hopefulsalmon · 23/05/2026 07:44

No, defintely not, that would feel like wishing Summer away. I don't think about it at until November.

No I hate Christmas. Consumer hell. Family hell. Let the summer last for ever!

What does that mean - December 1st box?
