I'm taking a punt here that we won't need another thread before Christmas, but feel free to prove me wrong!

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

If you have any voucher codes to share (or want to check for any) then have a look https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212144-sharing-voucher-codes

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes here . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Stock informer is a handy site http://www.stockinformer.co.uk/default.aspx?fullsite=1

Camelcamelcamel is a great amazon price tracking tool http://uk.camelcamelcamel.com

The following links compare price products including postage
www.find-book.co.uk
www.find-cd.co.uk
www.find-dvd.co.uk
www.find-game.co.uk (as in PS4/xbox etc)

Result @Notlongnow1!

I’m annoyed with myself this morning: I went to amend my Xmas Waitrose order only to find the huge and unwanted Veg Wellington that I had mistakenly put on my order instead of any meat cannot now be changed as it’s a special order 🙈

Waitrose didn’t email to warn of that deadline, so I’m quite annoyed.

DH and younger adult DS hate mushrooms, it may contain nuts so that rules out older DS and I keep forgetting I am supposed to be avoiding products containing wheat, (and certainly don’t want a four person wellington beast all to myself🙀)

As I am pretty sure there’s a rule against plonking unwanted ready meals on eBay, it looks like a result for DDog! 😹

At £12 it’s wiped out any ‘savings’ I might have made with JE 🙈

Hope no one else on here has made the same error with special food orders. It’s an expensive mistake and I hate waste.

One for Olio?

IlovePond · 20/12/2024 18:29

@NoWordForFluffy - I probably wouldn’t really give it to the dog 😹 - his body is - usually - a kibble only temple but if giving him a nibble I would check.

On a related note: we have a print out on the fridge of things dogs shouldn’t eat - some are quite surprising!

@Roundaboot that’s a good idea - but think it’s all tins and packets round here. Will hope to find some resolution. I will probably ending up eating some of the filling, if all else fails as I am a vegetarian and so far, all I have acquired are some parsnips and carrots!

burblish · 20/12/2024 18:34

I'm such a sheep - I have never even worn Converse before but just ordered both the black and the cream for myself! Knowing my luck, they will be too narrow for my flat, wide feet, but I've gone for a size bigger than usual so I hope they will be ok!

fishfingersandchipsagain · 20/12/2024 18:42

Has anyone else had a problem with their Nio Cocktails order? The box of mine smells like cat’s wee 😬.

The outer cardboard delivery box is fine, but the inner box stinks. No visible damage though.

imnottoofussed · 20/12/2024 19:50

Tried the justeat code and it didn't work. Decided to order anyway for delivery tomorrow lunch. The order says preparing order and they've reported one item as out of stock. Do you think they are delivering it today? I can't see anything on the order what day I selected. Hopefully it's not arriving today at 11:45 🤦‍♀️

imnottoofussed · 20/12/2024 19:52

Ok realised they don't deliver at 11:45 at night phew. Not sure why they are preparing the order now though. They might get a delivery of the cancelled item before they send out my order 😂

Restlessinthenorth · 20/12/2024 19:56

Thanks for the pyjama deal. Often need to find short notice gifts for DD's friends for birthdays etc, so these are ideal to stash away

MrsGnome · 20/12/2024 20:14

I can't find the boux avenue pj deal. Can anyone link it please?

Found it! Sorry can't seem to edit my comment on the app

CalliopePlantain · 20/12/2024 20:40

I came off these threads a few back as I’d finished and didn’t want to twitch. Had a little peek and now have 2 little live pets and a pair of converse on the way 🙄😆

Wholetthedogsoutwhowhowho · 20/12/2024 20:41

Tried the just eat code when first mentioned and I was gutted it didn't work for me........only just realised now that's because I was on the uber eats app!! 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

I'm going to try je now and see if it works still!

NoForwardingAddress · 20/12/2024 20:52

Just eat code didn't work for me

I held off all morning on the Converse and finally broke! My reasoning was that I'm a size 8 but they say they run small so I ordered a 9. DP and DS are both size 9 so I figured they'll fit someone in the house! (Or if not, they'll end up on Vinted!)

This is typical of the thread.

Just because something is on offer or everyone is buying something you don't need to get it if you have no plan for it.

I no it's not in the spirit but I just don't get it.

Oreyt · 20/12/2024 21:00

KNOW

4inthishouse · 20/12/2024 21:17

Can someone link the boux avenue please I can’t find it

On the off chance that you genuinely just don’t understand … it’s usually because someone wouldn’t normally treat themselves, perhaps because money is a bit tight, or perhaps because they usually prioritise others, or maybe because they are just usually very sensible. So when they see something that is a great bargain, that others are enjoying, and something they might not normally even think to get because of the cost, they think “that might actually be really nice!” and get it. It’s a treat. Sometimes it is nice to have a treat.

whizpoppingcreature · 20/12/2024 21:32

Does anyone have any codes for cheaper/free postage from Funky Pigeon please? My calendar is good to go but £5.79 delivery is steep!

Yeah this is me. I sometimes see stuff and think wow, I could never have afforded that before and may look and go for it. I usually shop at Asda/Tu or vinted for clothes, if something (like the converse) pops up of course I will consider it! I would never spend £80 on a pair of trainers for myself but £20 to make me feel spoilt at christmas, wahoo. Same with the Etsy code, I'm not jumping in for the sake of it, I'm looking desperately for use to save money on Jan and Feb birthdays. I have 3 kids under 7....I'm always (below) the bottom of the priority list and need to make money stretch.

Hohohopeful · 20/12/2024 21:47

Heated throw £25 at argos. here

4inthishouse · 20/12/2024 21:57

Thanks for the link but they won’t deliver to ROI

Room4onemore · 20/12/2024 22:37

Jumping on the thread, I’m still looking for a couple of inexpensive presents for my 15 year old daughter to finish her off but no idea what to get

I bought the converse. They hadn’t occurred to me before, but they are a gift for DD. She’s mentioned her friends wanting them and they have similar style. I needed to find her an extra gift. At £80 I wouldn’t be confident enough to risk it, at £20 I am. Worst case scenario they get rehomed to one of DD’s (lovely) friends.

I don't know if you misread my post but I actually do have a plan for these which is a) I'll wear them myself. If they don't fit or I don't t like them then b) I'll offer them to DP or DS who have similar size feet and then c) if none of us like them or they don't ft then I'll put them on Vinted where considering that I bought them at 25% RRP I'll make my money back and someone will get a bargain.
Worse case scenario I'll give them to a charity shop and write off the £20 which I can easily afford to do.
I'm neither an idiot nor a sheep. Merry Christmas!
