Anyone else have a huge pile of presents to wrap but can't summon the energy to start?

I have the paper, the sting, the gift tags and the bows, but currently all presents are piled up just 👀 at me- and I'm 👀 at them.

Someone send me some motivation to wrap please!!

I shop for Christmas presents online and arrange for them to be gift wrapped - saves so much time

Humphreyshead · 10/12/2024 18:26

I haven’t started yet. Haven’t found the energy or time!

I’d love to see some wrapping inspiration to get me in the mood!

OddBoots · 10/12/2024 18:29

Is there another adult in the household who can share the job so you can do it together? Otherwise it is a choice of getting on with it with something good on the TV or an audiobook/podcast/playlist or you splash out on gift bags.

Namechangeobviously2024 · 10/12/2024 18:30

If you leave it you'll end up with the Christmas Eve from hell where the kids don't fall asleep until 10.30 and you're wrapping until 4 a.m. and the kids wake up half an hour later.

Get ahead of the game now and your children will sleep soundly 7-7.

Wrapping always takes at least 4 times longer than it should.

ShinyPrettyThings87 · 10/12/2024 18:30

I so wish you were my neighbour!! I love wrapping and I'm so disappointed I've finished it all 🤣

gokartdillydilly · 10/12/2024 18:30

Put yourself in the mood - some festive music, brew up a nice mulled-wine or favourite tipple, something to make the room smell nice, clear your work-space. Afterwards, a nice Christmas movie as a treat.

Or leave it until next week. There's loads of time.

Cattery · 10/12/2024 18:31

Gift bags and tissue paper are the answer 🎁

Wigglywoowho · 10/12/2024 18:33

I'm doing a few gifts everyday. I won't be staying up till 4am doing it this year. It makes me miserable on Christmas morning. I want to be alive and not facking chirpy all day after only having 2 hours sleep.

ShodAndShadySenators · 10/12/2024 19:03

I love wrapping and would also be round like a shot to "help" do it all myself.

In my absence though, is there someone else you can enlist to help? That makes a big difference to tasks you don't really want to do. Especially if they will make hot beverages to keep you both going and they converse well.

Festive music may help? Or it might send you bananas, in which case maybe a podcast or music that you like.

Break it up, so do some today, some another night, maybe the last lot in the third batch (or whatever fraction works for you)?

I see you're using string rather than sticky tape. Get some masking or washi tape to hold paper in place without actually sticking to the paper and ripping it when you peel it off.

Do not, whatever you do, leave it all to Christmas Eve after the kids are in bed. That way madness lies.

Oh god! I’ve had a few of those over the years!!

I’m 40 and even remember my mum yelling at me when I walked in to the living room as a child late on xmas eve! 🙈

My dc are 19 and 24, and I don't live with my boyfriend yet. So it's just me wrapping. I normally love it and can't wait to start but this year have zero enthusiasm. I have bought some of those gift sacks from TikTok so that 20 gifts I don't have to wrap! 😂

Lol at the late night Christmas Eve wrapping.

I remember one year, the dc had some gifts that needing putting together and I still had wrapping to do.

We went to bed about 3:30am and no sooner had we got into bed they woke up!

That was a loonnngggg Christmas Day!! I was hanging my the end of it 😂 my 19 year old just text me as he's at university, and said how excited he was for Christmas. I do miss the years gone by, when they were young and it was all so magical.

Not to be smug but I've tried wrapping them as they arrive or waiting a few days and watching with a good show on TV and a nice supper to look forward to after.
Put a christmas movie on to get in the mood and treat yourself to a mince pie.
Can you do two or three a day perhaps?

letstrythis · 10/12/2024 20:52

What are these gift sacks?

jocktamsonsbairn · 10/12/2024 20:59

I blitzed mine at the weekend - Sat was ok but was a tad hungover on the Sunday which made it worse!! 😂 just put on Christmas films and outed a wee festive wine! 🍷 All done thank god but it was a slog! DD is home from uni this week and will poke so needed to wrap it all before she gets here!

Floralnomad · 10/12/2024 21:01

My husband does our wrapping , he’s not started yet .

BashfulClam · 10/12/2024 21:08

Me! I’ll do it. I love wrapping. I know someone who sues by bother wrapping anything and just leaves the stuff laid out unwrapped it looks so rubbish. Half the fun is wondering what’s inside and ripping the paper off as a child.

unlikelychump · 10/12/2024 21:24

No rel help but I tend to wrap as many as I can on the day I buy them. Saves having to store them as I put them straight under the tree. So I only have the kids ones to do now, which half's the task.

MrsSunshine2b · 10/12/2024 22:05

Just wrap one. If you feel like you can manage another one after you've wrapped one then that's a bonus. But just start with one.

iridescentsnowflake · 10/12/2024 22:10

I have wrapped all of mine (for DC) over the past two days. I’m glad it’s done, I don’t enjoy it at all!

Family presents were wrapped as I bought them as they’re usually handed over in early Dec.

I wish I could wrap the DC’s presents as they arrive, but I like to wait till I have them all, so I can make sure their presents look fairly equal. And I need to check stocking fillers fit in the stockings nicely.

Yellowtrouser · 10/12/2024 22:12

Gift bags!

This is good advice. I'll be back to read it again tomorrow. Got as far as moving all the (non household) gifts downstairs and getting the wrapping paper out this evening but made a bad choice for the TV and ended up watching two episodes of the Crown and doing zero wrapping!!

But at least now they're downstairs...that's something!

Chipshopninja · 10/12/2024 22:15

I make a night (or 3!) out of it, but I won't start until everything has been bought which it hasn't yet. Husband needs to hurry up with his lot!

I make sure the room I'm in is nice and tidy, stick a Christmas film or TV specials on the laptop, few glasses of wine.

But then I really enjoy Christmas wrapping. I haven't even bought the paper yet but that's a whole other thread!

Muchtoomuchtodo · 10/12/2024 22:23

I have 2 days of annual leave.

Today was for shopping - mission mostly accomplished.

Tomorrow is for wrapping.
