Present wrapping

mrspresents · 10/12/2024 18:25

Anyone else have a huge pile of presents to wrap but can't summon the energy to start?

I have the paper, the sting, the gift tags and the bows, but currently all presents are piled up just 👀 at me- and I'm 👀 at them.

Someone send me some motivation to wrap please!!

We should train AI to do this. LOL.

Gummibärchen · 10/12/2024 22:38

I can't relate to this OP, as I love giftwrapping. I enjoy it infinitely more than actual present shopping. I even watch YT tutorial techniques on how to do it even better! 😂 See it for the meditative experience it is and how much it completes any gift.

Fushia123 · 10/12/2024 22:39

Last year I read about a woman who booked herself into a local hotel for a night. She took all of the Christmas presents, gift wrap etc in a few suitcases and spent the night wrapping, having a short dip in the spa too. Next day returned home with everything wrapped and ready!

paranoiaofpufflings · 10/12/2024 22:45

@Fushia123 That sounds amazing! I love wrapping presents so the idea of combining with a spa break sounds epic!

ChristmasIsComing2024 · 10/12/2024 23:36

I’ve just wrapped 19 and realised that there’s one I’ve somehow lost 🙈🙈 It was £26 and one of the Santa presents so I really hope I can find it in the next few days as I can’t afford to buy it again 😫😫

If you're able to throw some money at the problem, and if the look works for you / recipients, you could buy a set of gift bags (search amazon, etsy, etc for 'reusable gift bags'), have them delivered and have the 'wrapping' job mostly done in a few minutes with very little effort.

My essentials are:
Empty house
Sippy drink, sometimes Baileys, this year's is Harvey's Bristol Cream (getting Grandma vibes)
Nice music
Wristlet sellotape dispenser
Getting the ironing board out, correct height to sit on the bed at just the right height.

  • I really miss those packs of flat thin wrapping paper from years ago, so much easier to handle (and rip off). Last year's paper was so thick and the tape wouldn't stick properly 😡 lesson learnt. Happy wrapping! 🎅

My husband takes a day off work and does it while I watch Christmas films and eat mince pies and tell him what labels to put on Xmas Grin

elQuintoConyo · 11/12/2024 08:03

Pay a crafty teenager to do it for you.

I wrap on Christmas eve, with fabric bags and swatches of fabric with ribbon. Been using the same stuff for 9 years now. I get comments from DC of "that wrapped my trainset!" Or "I (then aged 6) remember this bag had ferrero rocher BEST PRESENT EVER", type comments, it's lovely. Like reminiscing on individual decs when decorating the tree.

It takes about twenty minutes to wrap. But that's one child and one adult. Other children get paper as they're more used to it. Plus I don't see them on the day and fabric isn't appreciated.

Fold-tie-fold-tie.
Or open bag, chuck in, close bag. Ta-da!!

I do love wrapping so I'd be happy to do it for you.

ThirdStorm · 11/12/2024 08:30

You are not alone! I had to wrap one in an emergency last night realising today was the last time I'd see someone to pass along their gift. Therefore I am resolved to blitz it all this weekend so I'm not caught out again!

ConsternationStation · 11/12/2024 09:10

Wrapping is one of my favourite parts of the Christmas build up but even I struggled to get started this year. I've only managed to do some of my DC's presents and I've still got a lot to go. Normally I'm much more organised but this year I've found it hard to get motivated.

HolyMoly24 · 11/12/2024 10:22

I love wrapping my kids presents, but all the adult gifts I find so boring to wrap and end up leaving them until last minute!

Oh I hate when that happens! I'd check all the usual hiding places another time, sometimes you miss things the first time you look when you're tired.

I’m mid way through. Ds1 seems to have ended up with a good bit more than ds2 this year!

oh well, ds2 has got a big trip coming up next year so I’ll print some plane tickets and wrap so that he remembers that he’s got that to look forward to as well and that he’s not hard done by in the least!

DilemmaDelilah · 12/12/2024 18:26

@mrspresents I love wrapping and I have some lovely recycled and recyclable paper and LOTS of pretty add ons and tags!

I could wrap all yours for a VERY reasonable rate.... 😁

MumChp · 12/12/2024 18:42

Gifts bags here.

user1471453601 · 12/12/2024 18:49

My lovely cleaner is kind enough to do all mine. It helps that she likes wrapping presents.

If it excuses me, I find any restriction on or around my stomach very difficult.

But the joy of having my gifts wrapped, even if my bed isn't changed that week, is enormous.

Lovemusic82 · 12/12/2024 18:56

I love wrapping….to the point where I end up buying more gifts if I wrap too early 😬. I keep thinking I could start my own business wrapping gifts. I have offered to wrap for friends.

It was in a bag I had already looked in!! 🤷‍♀️😂 I might be going crazy but at least it’s found and wrapped now 😂

Hairgician · 12/12/2024 21:14

Do not leave til christmas eve. Worst.thing.ever.
Getting started is probs the hardest part tbh.
I wrapped what i had last week while dc at school, ironing board out, the holiday to watch and had to make do with a coffee as a tad early for baileys lol.
Next batch will be done at weekend, with a baileys in hand!

I so wish you were my neighbour!! I love wrapping and I'm so disappointed I've finished it all 🤣

this is so funny, the eager wrapper - you could hire youself out ! how long would it take you to get to Oxford ? tomorrow?

ShoAndSew · 12/12/2024 21:30

I sewed a load of reusable gift bags, in various sizes and styles, a few years ago and we all use those, they're in a box and we just help ourselves. And if there aren't enough? we have a load of bags/paper that we've saved over the years (but i still have loads of fabric so i just make more if i need them)

Redkatagain · 12/12/2024 21:40

Can't help for this year but made a rule a few years ago that it must be wrapped within 24 hours of entry to the house. Otherwise would be binned.
As I hate waste and so does DH it works.
Also make him sit down in the garden with a beer in mid summer and write family cards and gift tags.

rhubarbhandsoap · 12/12/2024 23:27

I’m in the love wrapping group, and agree with the empty house, nice drink, Christmas films.

What I find helps is to do one recipient at a time, and cut a stack of paper to vaguely appropriate sizes so I get a bit of a production line going. Sellotape dispenser, sticky label gift tags pre-written (especially for DC) and basically just thrash it out as quickly and neatly as possible. (One year 5 year old DS was opening his hastily wrapped stocking presents and commented on the elves’ wrapping 😂)

Sending motivation your way, you’ll be so glad when it’s done! 🎄🥰
