Present wrapping

Anyone else have a huge pile of presents to wrap but can't summon the energy to start?

I have the paper, the sting, the gift tags and the bows, but currently all presents are piled up just 👀 at me- and I'm 👀 at them.

Someone send me some motivation to wrap please!!

I normally dont like wrapping but this year im sad that im all done

Iv wrapped over 100 and could easily do 100 more 🎁🎁

I HATE wrapping! I used to love it, but at some point it just turned into a huge chore.

I have my 'wrapping station' all set up in the sunroom but all I'm doing is giving it and the growing pile of boxes the side-eye and heaving sighs.

I'm thinking maybe I should get a really nice bottle of wine or bourbon and have DH set it on the shelf that is too high for me to reach. I'll then figure a 'per day' number and promise myself that when I've 'done my daily chore' I'll get a little reward.

mrspresents · 15/12/2024 17:40

I've done it!!!! Took the advice- cheesy Christmas movies, enlisted the help of the other half and we wrapped from 10am this morning, just finished!!! I now only have dp's presents to wrap. So happy!!!!

Gift bags isn’t the answer, they only make it easier to group them, as surely you have to wrap the gifts first before putting them in the bags? I do anyway…

Either bag or wrapping here usually

This is me! I used to spend hours making bows etc. this year it was just a chore. But only 19 presents for dp to go and 1 for ds19 (if it arrived in time!!) and I'm finished 😊

I hear you!

I've 'committed' myself to 4 a day minimum. That should get me done by next weekend if I stay on track.

JustMovingUncomfortablySlow · 16/12/2024 08:04

This is me!

A few years ago I kept seeing stocking type bits for my Grandson (he must have been about 8 at the time) so I asked his parents if I could make him a Christmas Box - full of toot, surprises, silly things, needed things etc. He LOVED it and I've done him one every year since.

Only....... DD's husband is crap at present buying and she loves to unwrap stuff so she asked for a box... then my DS asked for one.... then his GF came to live with us so she got one. This year its Christmas at my house so my son-in-law has one too.

Each box has a minimum of about 30 little bits. Thats a fib lol, my SIL has about 30 bits in his but DD,DS etc all have about 75 things in theirs.

All of which need to be wrapped. Think badges and nail varnishes, SIL has a can of ale, anything small enough for a stocking goes in the Christmas Box, I've been filling them all year with charity shop finds and special offers.

Last year most of my late term Uni lectures were online so I wrapped whilst learning but this year sees me with my ironing board laid flat on my bed and hundreds of bits of tape ripped off and stuck on the edges of a giant saucepan lid.

I HATE wrapping - but they love their boxes and this year - I get one too!

Sunshineandrainbow · 16/12/2024 08:16

It is a chore, I find the best thing to help me is my sturdy sellotape holder which saves time and stress.

Just put in the carols/Christmas songs, pour yourself a large seasonal drink (I find a mulled wine and mince pie help no end!) and just crack on with it. Apparently the most tiring thing is having a job that you’re putting off - so do it. If you can’t face it all at once, divide it into manageable chunks - say, five presents, or half an hour, or some in the morning and some in the afternoon. You’ll be so pleased when you’ve got it done!

sesquipedalian · 16/12/2024 08:25

@ JustMovingUncomfortablySlow -

May I recommend tissue paper? It wraps small things very easily and you only need one bit of sellotape/sticker to secure it. I have a number of stockings with small things to do every year, and the (now adult) recipients do like each thing to be a surprise, so tissue paper it is. I now have a large box of it that I re-use.

Present in bag, sheet of shiny tissue "artfully" crumpled over the top, piece of tape holding bag shut between the handles.
Extra points if bags can be reused for birthday presents.

I'm sure one of ours last year has done about 10 different occasions.

Our family is a bit tight (I'd like to say "environmentally conscious ", but ...mmmm) and refuse to spend good money on the unimportant bit that would go straight in the bin.

snoopysnoooper · 16/12/2024 10:27

I used to love wrapping but hate it now. It's dd's birthday a couple of days before Xmas too so we have double wrapping to do!

I will have to do it in my bedroom as we now have a puppy who will probably go crazy at the sight of wrapping paper and presents but I'll only have space to do it on my bed, and it's too squishy a surface to do it properly!

Would love to ship it all off to someone to wrap nicely.

Pay a crafty teenager to do it for you.

I wrap on Christmas eve, with fabric bags and swatches of fabric with ribbon. Been using the same stuff for 9 years now. I get comments from DC of "that wrapped my trainset!" Or "I (then aged 6) remember this bag had ferrero rocher BEST PRESENT EVER", type comments, it's lovely. Like reminiscing on individual decs when decorating the tree.

It takes about twenty minutes to wrap. But that's one child and one adult. Other children get paper as they're more used to it. Plus I don't see them on the day and fabric isn't appreciated.

Fold-tie-fold-tie.
Or open bag, chuck in, close bag. Ta-da!!

I do love wrapping so I'd be happy to do it for you.

This is so lovely that they remember favourite presents being wrapped up in the same stuff!

AcrossthePond55 · 16/12/2024 14:49

OMG, I just had a display frame delivered that DS1 wanted. I swear, it's going to take a whole roll just to wrap it! Ugh!

Deep breath, take a sip of Christmas Cheer. "Keep Calm and Wrap On"

Crunchymum · 16/12/2024 16:46

I did all mine on Friday. Partially as I'd started with a cough / cold and I didn't know if I was going to get worse, partially as it was my last non working child free day and partially as I cannot bare wrapping too close to the day itself. I know it is silly but I feel it's much more worth my while if they are wrapped 12 days before Christmas than 2 days before Christmas!

Londonmummy66 · 16/12/2024 16:58

Fabric gift bags are a game changer - pop the gift in add a name label and you're done. No messing with paper scissors and tape.

Tinaforshort · 16/12/2024 17:30

Ugh I HATE wrapping with a passion. Over the years DH and I have come to the agreement that I buy it he wraps it. It’s amazing! I’m also rubbish at it, I don’t think that helps.

It’s why I order presents from websites which include a gift wrapping service. I haven’t the time or patience to be wrapping presents.

The4teddybears · 16/12/2024 17:35

Do it on the ironing board. It’s much more comfortable and you can keep cut sellotape strips in the part that holds the iron 😊

ChunkyMonkey2020 · 16/12/2024 17:55

Seeing the comment about a woman booking herself into a hotel.

This is exactly what me and my friends do.

We book a hotel for the night. Have a catch up, Christmas film and a few drinks whilst wrapping.

It's a treat.

Firstshoes · 16/12/2024 17:58

Just a tip...however much wrapping paper you have bought it won't be enough 😭. Thought I'd be finishing tonight for the THIRD time...but no. Ran out again!

My lovely cleaner is kind enough to do all mine. It helps that she likes wrapping presents.

If it excuses me, I find any restriction on or around my stomach very difficult.

But the joy of having my gifts wrapped, even if my bed isn't changed that week, is enormous.

What a gem ❤️

Ted27 · 16/12/2024 18:05

I've done the things I needed to post so 2 boxes winging their way to Liverpool and one to Cornwall
I have a 4 big bags to get through for me (I spoil myself at Christmas ) my son and my foster child. My FC is 11 and arrived 12 weeks ago with virtually nothing so is getting a lot. I've got some posh toiletries for me and my son which come in nice boxes so won't wrap them, or things like chocolate oranges.
My son went to uni last year and came home with a passion for Yorkshire tea so as a joke I've got him a bag of 500 tea bags so feel I must wrap those

Yes this is my game changer too
I put washing baskets on the sofa to put the wrapped presents in.
Presents on the table behind me .
Something good on the telly
Drink ( not alcohol, I don't drink)

Decent scissors, heavy duty tape dispenser , each person has their own paper so no need for tags .
