Anyone else have a huge pile of presents to wrap but can't summon the energy to start?

I have the paper, the sting, the gift tags and the bows, but currently all presents are piled up just 👀 at me- and I'm 👀 at them.

Someone send me some motivation to wrap please!!

Definitely going to try and ironing board trick after so many have suggested it here!

My dc are 19 and 24, and I don't live with my boyfriend yet. So it's just me wrapping. I normally love it and can't wait to start but this year have zero enthusiasm. I have bought some of those gift sacks from TikTok so that 20 gifts I don't have to wrap! 😂

Can your DC help by wrapping some of each other's gifts?

pinkksugarmouse · 16/12/2024 19:09

I've just seen. You're done but I think once kids are old enough to do a decent job and keep secrets they can help wrap siblings presents.

Just a tip...however much wrapping paper you have bought it won't be enough 😭. Thought I'd be finishing tonight for the THIRD time...but no. Ran out again!

That's because the elves sneak in and steal it for Santa when he needs more. After all, he can't be seen running into the local store to grab rolls of paper!

I've always wrapped my son's gifts in different papers. Started it way back when they 'believed'. They thought that Santa did that way on purpose so siblings didn't unwrap 'the wrong' gifts. It was really because I couldn't be arsed to write out a zillion 'To X From Santa' tags. Can't remember the number of times I'd have to make a mad dash to Target just praying they hadn't run out of 'Santa paper'. Looking at the size of the display frame I mentioned upthread, looks like I'll be doing the mad dash this year.

We have two DDs and buy two different types of paper. That way nothing needs a label- it's a pile of matched paper each. Makes it much quicker!

Lol at the late night Christmas Eve wrapping.

I remember one year, the dc had some gifts that needing putting together and I still had wrapping to do.

We went to bed about 3:30am and no sooner had we got into bed they woke up!

That was a loonnngggg Christmas Day!! I was hanging my the end of it 😂 my 19 year old just text me as he's at university, and said how excited he was for Christmas. I do miss the years gone by, when they were young and it was all so magical.

I love that he's messaged you saying how excited he is. So lovely!

I am feeling exactly the same as you, I just cannot be bothered 😕

Thankfully my husband can help do it all for me whilst I be in charge of cellotape, just need to find the motivation from somewhere to lug it all out from its hiding place and get on with it.

Family gifts have been being wrapped while I attend online meetings (the massive company wide ones with cameras off).

The kids gifts will be wrapped one evening with dh and wine and a movie at some point.

I find that once I start, I get on a roll and manage to do far more than I set out to do. I also think is it’s helpful to think in terms of wrapping all of a person’s presents at a time- then you get a sense of accomplishment from having ‘finished’ a person. Lastly, I’d leave your wrapping up kit easily accessible for the next wrapping session. I would also have sellotape on a good dispenser- makes a huge difference.

I still need to buy and wrap 2 presents - DD and DS (22 &25) get a Badly Wrapped Present From The Cats.

Something around £10-£15 ;practical, wrapped in the ugliest paper and excess of tape and.....a clump of fur.
That I can find under the sofa or the cats beds ,I don't hoik it out like legwax

pestowithwalnuts · 16/12/2024 21:36

My dining room has been turned into the present wrapping room .
I wrap 3 presents at a time and just leave the paper ribbon etc all over the table.and close the door so I can't see it.
Some things are easier put into gift bags with some festive tissue on the top.

letshavetea · 16/12/2024 21:44

A large gift bag for each person. Tissue to wrap each item before placing them in the bag. Easy.

baddayformeredith · 17/12/2024 23:12

I love wrapping presents. I shut myself in my room with the iPad and watch something rubbish with a cup of tea on hand.
Quite often it only takes a short while but stay in there for ages avoiding chores and yell 'don't come in' to anyone that tries to talk to me. It's my favourite alone time.

Love this!

I’ve just finished mine. Bar the 2 books in my car.

It was either tonight or Friday morning - I’d have better things to do Friday!

Nothelpingishard · 18/12/2024 10:01

Stage 1 complete, the family gifts were done last night whilst watching Nativity with a Snowball!

Friends tonight. DC....at some point.

Definitely need more paper/bags!

snoopysnoooper · 18/12/2024 10:33

BIG thank you to those who said about wrapping on an ironing board!! You have saved me lots of frustration trying to wrap on my too-squishy bed. Smashed through most of it last night and it was a breeze Grin

Topseyt123 · 18/12/2024 10:52

I loathe wrapping the presents up and do procrastinate for a while on it. It's one of the real chores of Christmas.

I usually get going around mid December though because I am utterly determined to avoid the mistakes of previous years with small children (all grown up now, thankfully) and leaving far too much of it until Christmas Eve.

I find that for me the idea of doing the wrapping is worse than actually doing it. Once I have done the first couple I hit a purple patch and just plough on with it. As I said, I consider it a chore, but it gets to the point where it is nagging at me so I just have to do it. I find a sense of achievement and satisfaction when I have finished it - job done again for another year.

I forced myself to do it last weekend.

Will have to mention this to DH. We wrapped on the floor last night and he was grunting and groaning, or moaning about pins and needles and cramps. The man just turned 37....seriously! Might buy him a yoga subscription for Christmas 😂

CoolPlayer · 18/12/2024 11:35

People make videos of them wrapping now a bit like the cleaning ones I saw one the other day an it motivated me ! x

evtheria · 18/12/2024 11:39

I'm in the odd position of being excited and ready to wrap, but I don't even have half the gifts yet. Angry

So if anyone's in the NW, send em round my way so I can cut, tape, and ribbon to my heart's delight.

abigaail · 18/12/2024 12:31

I'm just having a cup of tea then I'm going to wrap all mine upstairs in the bedroom while rewatching gavin and Stacy. I'm thinking I can have it done in 2 hours easily. I enjoy doing it but I'm not looking forward to the stiff back I get from kneeling on the floor though!
