Thread 13 - the one where I'm dashing for the school run!

1000 replies

Reastie · 22/11/2024 07:25

Apologies for the rubbish title - I'm trying to get the kids ready and don't want my daughter to miss the bus!

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

If you have any voucher codes to share (or want to check for any) then have a look https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212144-sharing-voucher-codes

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes here . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

I have a request for you wise MNers. DD8 has asked for a digital watch but she doesn't have a phone so doesn't want any of the smart/connect with your phone stuff. (Though I do think she'd love a pedometer but not essential). Does anyone have a suggestion of a kids brand of watch that will be reliable and not die after a week! Amazon is full of random brands and I've no idea where to start! thank you!!

The kids Fitbit ace 2. My DS has worn his for about 3 years non stop and no issues. Long battery life between charges. It’s been a great buy.

Anyone interested in the Deans shortbread, I received an email saying this is the “Final Black Friday Bargain” so it doesn’t sound like they’ll be making another one once these are sold out!

It's slightly cheaper instore, but if your friend orders online, there is another little bonus:
When you spend over £100 at Costco this week they will get a £10 voucher off their next online purchase (not that there's much you can buy for £10 at Costco, but might be handy if they do intend making a purchase. I think I ended up just ordering dishwasher tablets last time I got the £10 voucher)

does anyone know if/when the PLouise advent calendar will come back in stock? Or any of the budget boxes? DD has been dropping hints that she likes PLouise now

I bought DD a plouise mystery box on tiktok shop for £10. First time I’ve bought anything on there but it’s arrived. Just need to work out a way to break into it to check the contents

Karlkennedyslovechild · 25/11/2024 18:08

@dramalamma i second the fitbit ace for what you need. Mine got them 2 years ago and still going strong.

Thanks woodwaj - I've been given a code plus we don't have Sky these days but thanks so much anyway Grin

Just as an FYI, you don't need Sky to use free film codes, just access to Sky Store on your smart TV, which is just another app.

endlesscraziness · 25/11/2024 18:16

Thanks all. I got the Deans hamper. Perfect to split for gifts for my daughter's coaches.

MammaRoly · 25/11/2024 18:16

@dramalamma bought both of mine the Pthtechus smart watch from Amazon and this went down very well and neither had a phone. Has functions to monitor sleep and steps plus a few games

Typical, I can’t afford it until Friday and was hoping they’d have at least a similar offer on then!

tankee · 25/11/2024 18:30

Don't think I've seen this posted yet.

Regatta have their Black Friday sale on with some good deals. I got DH this heated jacket reduced from £220 to £88 that will do him well for watching the football.

They also have a 10% off code - XMAS taking it to £79.20, free delivery and Regatta is currently sitting at 7.5% on Top Cashback - very pleased!

IlovePond · 25/11/2024 18:37

Hi, Can anyone recommend a bargainous, not too garish, reflective woolly hat for DH as I worry about him walking DDog in the dark. (DDog has a reflective coat, but DH won’t put it on him, as he thinks it’s embarrassing 🙀).

Possibly relevant: DH has an absolutely huge head, so any hats have to be stretchy!

Thanks

mummyof2boys30 · 25/11/2024 18:42

Provis is great for reflective items. They definately have beanies as i was looking at them. We have a lot of their stuff

IlovePond · 25/11/2024 17:27

Apologies if this has been asked already- has anyone actually received their Deans hamper yet?

I am trying to convince myself that I do NOT need industrial quantities of shortbread with no one to gift any to, but those tins are lovely!

I think there was a picture on a previous thread - it looked good. I may have just caved ... not sure who I need it for, but always good to have emergency gifts in!

jocktamsonsbairn · 25/11/2024 18:47

Oh man I caved and became a shortbread 🐑!! We do love Dean's though so it will get eaten, will be wee extras for some presents and can take boxes when we go a visiting n over the festive period!! Not sure if I can part with the coo tin though!!
Thanks to all who posted the deal then reposted the restock(s)!!

winewolfhowls · 25/11/2024 18:49

Jess26385 · 24/11/2024 22:23

Does anyone know where or how to get cheaper heelies??? They are so expensive

I'm not intending to be Mrs grinchy buttocks but I'm sure there was a thread once about how heeleys are bad for you, maybe here but maybe on Reddit. Would they accept proper skates instead?

flumposie · 25/11/2024 18:50

Also caved and bought a Dean's hamper 😄🐑

I never noticed that - maybe as they’re from a 3rd party Turtledoves they can’t apply the code. I’ve not ordered from Turtledoves before but I know they are popular on the Christmas threads.

If you are looking for recycled cashmere fingerless gloves then I can recommend seabeach on ebay - quality is as good, half the price and you get to choose exacty which pair of gloves you want. https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/seabeach2012

If you are with Octopus, they have just released codes for a free movie on rakuten, you can find it on the app in the Octoplus section.

Thanks. Can I ask what Ratuken is? Is it a streaming service??

Londonmummy66 · 25/11/2024 18:56

Went shopping IRL today. Lovisa have a black friday offer of 5 pairs of earring for £10 on the ones that are normally £3 each.

Also don't know if this is allowed so please delete if not but my daughter has made some lovely (or so I think) hoop earrings which she is selling for £3 plus postage with all proceeds going to our local foodbank. A number of designs so if anyone wants budget friendly stocking fillers or secret santa gifts DM me.

Dreamingofwalden · 25/11/2024 19:02

Anyone else queuing for White Fox ?😂

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 25/11/2024 19:03

Can someone remind me of the Deans hamper please? I am a 🐑 that loves shortbread!!

kpfragglesrock · 25/11/2024 19:03
