Thread 13 - the one where I'm dashing for the school run!

1000 replies

Reastie · 22/11/2024 07:25

Apologies for the rubbish title - I'm trying to get the kids ready and don't want my daughter to miss the bus!

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

If you have any voucher codes to share (or want to check for any) then have a look https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212144-sharing-voucher-codes

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes here . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Stock informer is a handy site http://www.stockinformer.co.uk/default.aspx?fullsite=1

We’ve not done bottoms for this reason and stick to xxs/xs hoodies. They are huge but both DDs and friends like that.

Thank you - do they just wear black leggings?

Summerdew · 24/11/2024 22:36

Yes black leggings, baggy jeans or trackie bottoms from somewhere else. They’ve never asked for the white fox bottoms though, all about the hoodies here.

Has anyone seen any good deals on beauty boxes? Looking to spend around £10 for someone early 20s. I seem to remember buying some mystery boxes at a really good price from this thread last year but can't remember where from and can't find the email receipt!

Moonshine5 · 24/11/2024 23:12

I know which ones you're referring to, they've not been mentioned this year.

Not sure if £10 will get you a beauty box but you could get a gift set from Boots like Soap & Glory or Sanctuary for that price point.

Givealittlebit · 24/11/2024 23:12

@VolcanicProtectorMan if you have an aldi near you they had this moana set which was lovely and looked substantial for the price!

I'd love the Silent night squishy pillow but La Redoute want £9.99 for delivery which makes it almost the same price as everywhere else!

If anyone needs meat for over Christmas, Musclefood have already started their Black Friday deals - for example buy 1 hamper, get 3 free - I've always had good quality food from there.

Too Good To Go have started doing delivery packages too, might be good for splitting up and using as gifts? They are all on the app so I can't link but there's a Love Cocoa package on there at the moment, for example! more packages info

What are the tickets for ? Might not help but my friend did tickets for her teenagers one year - one was really into horses and she got her tickets to Royal Badminton (?-just remember it was badminton) and she wrapped her tickets in a shuttlecock, her son was a ruddy fan and his was in a rugby ball shaped tin. Could you do something like that ?

It’s for Coldplay. I like the ideas you mentioned, thank you. I’ll have think to see if I can come up with something related

PMAmostofthetime · 25/11/2024 00:10

@whoknows1230

Inside a balloon?
Attached to a helium balloon which is tied with a bow- they untie the bow and then the ticket is at the end with mmm on the balloons ribbon.

I have bought the bands calendar previously and wrote on the date - your going to see......

When opened the calendar- I have said flick what day is such and such date on ( same page as announcement so they see it x

Could you get an empty cd box of one of their cds ?
you could go very cryptic with pretend snow balls and snowmen as in - cold 🥶 play …… but I think that would be too hard.

ZIGGY911 · 25/11/2024 00:39

How about a jigsaw, which on d made reveals tickets.

Not for bulky items, apparently. And it's not suitable for click and collect either.

The Yoto Black Friday is advertised as starting today (not live as I write this though)

it seems that the best prices might be for people already in Yoto club? But I’m not sure what’s been said and offers not confirmed yet. We’re in the club as we love Yoto, use it constantly, and the selection is good.

Yoto - The Screen-Free Audio Player for Children

Yoto Player plays audiobook stories, music, activities, sound effects, radio and podcasts for kids. A safe and secure way for children to explore amazing audio with kids in control. Welcome to Audiotime.

Any thoughts on what I could take a 65 year old who will be in hospital at Christmas. Just a token gift. He’s into motorbikes. Doesn’t drink.

Motorbike mag or des any of his fave bikers have books out? Little snack box with either his preferred or lux Xmas treats that he will miss out on.
It depends. At Christmas in hospital I have one 65 year old that would love just his big box of chocolates he has at home and his preffered tea.
One who would want books.
One a paint by numbers or sew by numbers.
And one who would just want a nice jumper and a subscription to audible.

It is worth keeping an eye on Boots £10 Tuesday deals. They had little Ted Baker and No 7 sets for £10 last week. I bought 2 of the No 7 sets which were half the usual price.

Just seen TU have 25% off until end of 29th. Includes brands.

VladsPants · 25/11/2024 07:20

Any recommendations or bargains for cashmere gloves? DM loves her turtle doves but wants some proper ones. Am looking at John Lewis for £35 so around that price or less?

BoysBagsShoes · 25/11/2024 07:23

@STom2 one of the loveliest gifts I received was a bauble that the pupil had picked out herself. I’ll always remember the look on her face when I opened it and told her I loved it, especially as she told me she knew I would, she chose it especially for me! This was 20 years ago and I still think of that pupil every year when it goes on the tree.
Doesn’t have to be expensive, The Range do a huge selection of lovely glass ones for a couple of quid.

weareallqueens · 25/11/2024 07:27

Start Fitness has savings on Garmin watches. I saw someone was looking for one yesterday.
