Thread 13 - the one where I'm dashing for the school run!

1000 replies

Reastie · 22/11/2024 07:25

Apologies for the rubbish title - I'm trying to get the kids ready and don't want my daughter to miss the bus!

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

If you have any voucher codes to share (or want to check for any) then have a look https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212144-sharing-voucher-codes

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes here . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

@dcadmamagain tricky isn't it. I think the staff would prefer a cash bonus to food. Is there any way to get the management to set something up?
I think hampers sound like trouble. When are people going to get to eat stuff? From experience nothing is worse than a load of half eaten cheese and chutney, often left out for hours in warm room for people to help themselves.
Individual cans of something festive perhaps for staff to grab? Cinnamon coke that sort of thing.
Or at work we had mini smelly candles in a tin at a training day. They were nice and coukd be regifted if not to ones taste.

I know it's hard as I want to give them something to show their work is appreciated

Great deal on pooch & mutt. The advent calendar and then you get to choose 2 free gifts (choice of beanie hats/dog treats) and it works out £4.35! Then just £1.99 postage so £6.34 for it all

Thanks for this!! Dd was just saying we haven't got an advent calendar for our pup. Was just looking on Pets at Home and this same calendar was £9.99 but I got that and two packs of chews for £6.34 instead Grin

YorkshireFelix · 24/11/2024 20:50

@TheGriffle make sure you do open and check the P Louise order as they have a reputation for sending orders out with missing items!

I need inspiration and bargains...I feel this is the place :)

My best friend and her 7yo are visiting for Christmas, they live overseas and are combining the visit with selling the house they used to live in here. They'll be with us for a few days over Christmas and then will be at her (mostly empty as tenants just left) house for about 3 weeks after.

I want a few gifts for them to open but they are limited on what they can take back with them so ideally things that can be used within the time they're here (e.g. food or bath products), or a small present that's so good they're happy for it to take up space in the suitcase - and can keep the 7yo entertained.

I'm not worried about budget particularly, but friend won't be pleased if I've spent a lot, and I don't want her to feel as if she needs to reciprocate.

I'm beyond excited to see them, and I'd love for them to have some thoughtful gifts to open Christmas morning:)

I am a bit late in replying but any version of UNO maybe a hit for the 7 year old and give them all some time together

sianimac · 24/11/2024 21:10

Long time lurker here. I’m a nurse and I’m sure care home staff would appreciate any sort of snacks or drinks. Tea and coffee is what my team always request if we’re asked.
How about one of those bird feeders that stick on the outside of the window as a Grandma gift?
Eastpak have some good discounts if anyone needs luggage. My girls have these bags for school and they’re still going strong after 4 years.

I hope this is useful to somebody, I love my silentnight squishy pillow, so bought two silentnight squishy body pillows from la redoute for £22 each - they are huge, size of a double bed bolster and can be folded as v pillow or used as a body pillow. Have a super soft, washable cover, so a massive squishmallow experience. I was lucky and got free delivery on the day but there are usually offers floating about on la redoute.

Most staff rooms have fridges though so it doesn't take much to pop things in the fridge. We've always been intelligent enough to do that and those types of presents have been enjoyed at my work which is why I suggested it!

Could I have recommendations for a camera for a 10 year old? She’s had the ones that instantly print and variety of other more kid friendly ones like kidizoom but now would like a more grown up one. She doesn’t have a phone and we are holding out on that a bit longer but would like to get her a nice camera. Has anyone got any recommendations please? X

Seatheviewfromthekitchen · 24/11/2024 21:34

Can anyone help? My 10 year old has asked for a White Fox suit but the website only has adult sizes. I have seen kids in them, are they wearing adult ones? She’s average size so I think adult ones would swamp her? TIA

Yes I did notice that! Wasn’t sure if I’d wear the green one though… so opted for treats for our pug instead 🤩

We’ve not done bottoms for this reason and stick to xxs/xs hoodies. They are huge but both DDs and friends like that.
