80s Xmas tree

I have bought some colourful Xmas tree lights that remind me of my 80's childhood and it's inspired me to go all multicoloured and retro this year!

If anyone sees any other decorations anywhere please can you post them here.

Also if anyone has a time machine I'd a like a big metal tin full of the old recipe Quality Streets in the old colourful wrappers.

I do have a big old retro quality street tin with decorations in!

Can’t beat a 70s Christmas tree. My tree now is a mish mash of lovely things that don’t match at all.

Jojoanna · 08/10/2024 09:22

Oh I always always go 80s decorations ,, lots of foil ceiling decs and coloured lights on the tree.

Cheers me up

Eddielizzard · 08/10/2024 09:28

Do you have those? They do look really good, but bit wary of LED's.

They look like bulbs rather than LEDs, more likely to get hot.

Eddielizzard · 08/10/2024 09:37

Sorry, wasn't clear. Those lights are LEDs, but have they managed to make them look like the old style filaments? Do they look authentic?

PurpleCoffemachine · 08/10/2024 09:37

@CaptainBenson these might fit with the theme!

I've gone all the way back to the 1920s and have lots of original baubles from that period!

@BoobyDazzler I got these lights last year, they're coloured and really warm, not bright neon and no blue!

Love an 80s tree. Did anyone else used to have like a gauzey kind of floss on their tree. It's hard to explain it was like a fine sheet of floss my mum used to drape it over the tree when decorated made the lights look more twinkley.

Yes I still have this every year. I put it on the ageing nativity scene as extra straw. Our tree is a mish mash of things from over the years, a throw on of nostalgia. Not a tasteful thing in sight at Christmas in our house.

They are lovely.

During lockdown we bought a snowy tree and confetti lights. Our house was built in the 70s so it fits the vibe. We also have lots of foil decorations hanging off the ceiling.

JC03745 · 08/10/2024 10:02

These cheeky fuckers used to fall off and hide under and around the tree till someone stood on one with a loud AAAHHHH!

I'd spend hours going through the string of lights, checking each bulb individually to see which one was out!

Angel hair we used to call it

Threewheeler1 · 08/10/2024 13:20

God, I feel so nostalgic now! Love the colourful lights - we had the same, usually with half the bulbs blown.
I'm all for throwing loads of colours at the tree this year, and some lametta!
I might make some pom-pom decs, or maybe they'd be a fire hazard 🤔

bettytaghetti · 08/10/2024 13:39

PurpleCoffemachine · 08/10/2024 09:37

Love these! Do you think JL are going to be left with lots of the coffee cream ones in the January sale? 😂

waltzingparrot · 08/10/2024 15:34

Were these from the 80s? We had one when I was young. They angels sometimes span manically.

quantumbutterfly · 08/10/2024 15:50

aaargh angel chimes. The frenzied tinkling! It was irritating with 1 candle, it was dementing the more you lit.

Mylittledrum · 08/10/2024 15:57

I found these on Amazon last year. I was very sad to take them down. Instant jollyness!
