People who do the "make your own" Yoto cards - is there a nice way to label them, add a picture or something for a non-reader?

Ewock · 02/09/2024 09:13

Bogginsthe3rd · 02/09/2024 00:05

Dear God. My fault for clicking on the wrong link, but people are buying for Christmas... from August??! Mental.

Dear God imagine not all people are in the same financial position and need to spread out what they spend and find as many ways to save money as possible.
If its not for you really no need to write anything, just rude.

Yeah . I used Boots to print stickers of photos of who was reading the story.

Ewock · 02/09/2024 09:18

Hi I've seen Yoto mentioned a few times my daughter will be 8 just before Xmas. Would it be a good age to have one do you think? She loves books and has what we call a mini library in her room 😏

chinupoldchap · 02/09/2024 09:29

Keep an eye out on Vinted for Lego sets, most come with boxes, leaflets, etc. I've managed to get a few bargains before, also other toys are on there too. I find using the bundles the best way to maximise delivery charges

VeruccaSalty · 02/09/2024 09:38

The pack of make your own yoto cards comes with nice stickers that you can write on.

I watched loads of videos of how to make the stickers and then couldn’t be arsed and wrote the name of the book on masking tape instead 🤣

I would definitely do this for an older one, but Small Boy will only be 3 but very independent, so he'll want a picture of some sort so he can find it himself. Stick Man might be within my drawing skillset, but that's about it! 😂

Was it expensive, and do they last or do they need replacing regularly?

They’ve last really well.

Can I ask if anyone has any ideas for 20~22yo men?

That’s my dcs and, as it is more and more the case since they are at Uni, I’m struggling to find ideas (bar a few very expensive items that might make it to the list). Not socks - apparently that’s for old people 😂😂

Sideorderofchips · 02/09/2024 11:19

Some I heart revolution stuff half price at superdrug

Does anyone know if the Lego retro sets will be on sale? Looking to buy the radio one but don't fancy paying full price

rhubarbhandsoap · 02/09/2024 11:43

@MtClair what about a panini press or toastie maker? This one is on offer on Amazon and has a waffle plate too.

MyStylish40s · 02/09/2024 11:46

Not sure if it’s still a big thing this Christmas, but there’s 30% off everything on White Fox.

virgocatlover · 02/09/2024 11:48

Do Whistlefish ever do free delivery codes? Or do you always have to spend £25?

ALovelyCupOfNameChange · 02/09/2024 12:29

I’ve just bought a gas pizza oven (we have wood pellet but it’s so Smokey I hate using it) from Robert dyas for £99 with free delivery. You have to sign up to their loyalty card and use the code PIZZAOVEN1

Im really struggling for my eldest this year. He's an adult with autism and likes various things but because he's liked them for over a decade he already has most gift buying options.

I used to go with a few foodie gifts too but he's piling weight on lately 😭😔 (but I need to tread carefully there or he could go to the other extreme) so I'll buy a couple of food gifts but not lots. He's tonnes of toys, figures, mugs, t-shirts, caps, Funkos, etc. He doesn't drink alcohol, doesn't go to concerts, isn't into designer brands or aftershave etc.

The other problem is he never throws anything away so I'm also aware he has an ever increasing collection of "stuff". Toys, books, and items related to his interests (mario, Lego, smg4, Mickey Mouse, Ghostbusters, Marvel, Splatoon, etc)

I usually spend the bulk of his budget on a big fancy Lego set, but he's still at that you get stage where he likes presents to open, and has a much you get sibling who will have lots of toys to open.

It's so tricky!! Anyone else have a similar situation or have any ideas?

SuburbanKel · 02/09/2024 12:33

I make up 11 x ' Toiletries hampers' every year for family - it's just the practical stuff, but gives 'em all months worth of supplies. I get the lynx sets and FCUK sets from Boots when they are half price (not 3 for 2 as they are still more expensive than other outlets ) - Was surprised to see the 3for 2 on Boots this weekend and both Lynx & FCUK at half price (online only) - so £170 lighter I am sorted! December me will thank August me hugely. However, ordering from Boots rather than picking up in store has left me with some damaged packaging multiple times in the past which is an utter PITA - so wish me luck tomorrow when it's delivered!

MsBubbles85 · 02/09/2024 12:33

Any ideas of what to get my SIL (BIL's gf)? She is studying a PhD, likes photography, Uniqlo (already got her things from there last Xmas). Besides that I don't know what else she likes!

Glitterandmud · 02/09/2024 12:33

My 10 year old loves her yoto, listens to a story every night. She's a reluctant reader and it's really benefited her being able to read along to books. DS7 enjoys reading but likes listening to a story at night. They both enjoy the radio!

We got minis for travelling which were cheaper than the main player and do the same so might be something to look into if you're not sure.

For those asking about make your own stickers, I ordered Avery 50x80mm stickers from Amazon and print my own, just save a pic of the book cover and use the Avery app. Stick great and peel off when we want new stories.
