So what time tomorrow shall I hit the supermarkets?

Will it be heaving?

When are you going?

Every year I go to Sainsbury’s for 6am when it opens on the 23rd. Always quiet and a fairly relaxing shop! Hoping for the same tomorrow.

Bookworm1111 · 22/12/2023 20:48

I did 7.30am this morning and it was starting to get really busy, but the shelves had been restocked overnight for 6.30am opening so I pretty much got everything.

TheTigerWhoCameToEatMyHusband · 22/12/2023 20:48

Some time around never it's carnage lol

Booboocars · 22/12/2023 20:50

Went to M&S at 5pm - was busy not overly so. Short queues! This was a city centre branch.

googledidnthelp · 22/12/2023 20:51

Just been, left house at 7.30 home by 8.30 and they had everything I wanted
One person in front of of me at the check out so tomorrow night gets my vote

HappyCamperTent · 22/12/2023 20:52

I had to join a queue to just enter M&S this morning!… at around half 10ish

KingscoteStaff · 22/12/2023 20:53

Cheese fiends join me in the queue outside Neal's Yard Dairy in Seven Dials - opens at 7am!

What surprised me today in Sainsbury’s was the number of people wandering around aimlessly. There were clearly whole families on an outing. Personally, I had a list and was in and out in 15 minutes.

It's not humanly possible to do a big Xmas shop in a crowded supermarket in 15 minutes

Powerplant · 22/12/2023 20:56

Just back from Tescos it was busy but not manic. Can you go this evening our Tesco is open late?

Teapleasebobb · 22/12/2023 20:59

Eek, not sure op. I went this morning, got there before 9 and it was chaos! Can't believe how busy it was. I think you've got to just accept that it's going to be crazy and power through. Good luck!

I’m collecting a food order at 9am from Morrisons (just Turkey and pigs in blankets), when I ordered it I thought I was collecting from click and collect (outside) but seems I have to go inside. I’m now wishing I hadn’t ordered, it’s going to be chaos tomorrow morning and the whole point of me ordering was so I didn’t have to join the chaos.

But you won't have to queue up at the tills will you? And if you do need to buy something you can pay for it at the sweet , kiosk at the entrance, if your shop is like mine!

TerrysChocolateOrange · 22/12/2023 21:06

Tesco delivered between 11 and 12 , nothing short.

We then went out to the farm shop and offered a kidney in return for Turkey, Gammon, and a gorgeous selection of cheese.

No panic.

Tomorrow will be given over to sleeping and dossing and then our massage guy is coming to massage DH and I, we have early dinner out on Christmas Eve then the three of us will come back and either watch Die Hard or Love Actually.

Some chocolates for the two savages who won’t have had enough to eat at dinner, one has hollow legs, the other is just a gannet, clue the 22 has hollow legs. 😁

Redmat · 22/12/2023 21:08

I went at 6pm this evening. It was almost empty.
It may well be the same tomorrow. Everybody gets up early. I always used to but actually the late afternoon is better. They had everything I needed..

TeddyBeans · 22/12/2023 21:09

The lot of you a bonkers 🤣 I did mine yesterday and that was bad enough!

Number4224 · 22/12/2023 21:16

I was at big Tesco at 5am this morning when it opened and it was nice and quiet. I was home by 6 and it was great to get it all done.

christmaspawpaws · 22/12/2023 21:18

Sainsbury's wasn't too bad tonight
Except I did click and collect and another customer took my fridge stuff...

StiggyZardust · 22/12/2023 21:19

I went at 8.30 this morning. It was chaos.
I would suggest as early as possible!

SausageCasseroles · 22/12/2023 21:22

@Mirabai we had Mr Tescos come today and it was exactly why we had our slot today. 9 missed or substituted items!!! (Apparently no oj... no napkins... etc)

So planning to get those tomorrow and a few extra bits. Thankfully not a "full" shop.

@TerrysChocolateOrange we had tesco today and would have been fine if we didn't have NINE key things missing.

Asda at 4pm today was absolutely fine.

Chewbecca · 22/12/2023 21:27

I reckon the Big Shop is quite spread out this year so my guess is it will be busy all the time but no one peak. I went today around 1pm, busy but it was well stocked and not awful, 2 people in front of me in the queue.

Reesescheeses · 22/12/2023 21:31

Actually the supermarkets are a lot better on Xmas eve itself. Because they re-stock overnight but most people won’t chance leaving their big shop that late (including me and DH who will be hitting big Tesco at 6am because we want to chill on Xmas Eve)

CutesyUserName · 22/12/2023 21:32

I went to Asda at 5am yesterday morning and was at M&S Food Hall when it opened at 6am this morning. Definitely the time to go if you're already awake.

I wasn't. I was buying the things that weren't supplied in my online delivery. HTH.
