The final week in the run up to Christmas, what does it look like for you?

I have 3 and a half days work
A meal out
Parcels to collect
About 3 more presents to buy
All presents to wrap
Food shop
Hopefully all done so I can relax at home on Christmas Eve with a film and a nice dinner

Working til Wednesday. Still have half a class set of A level mocks to mark on top of teaching load this week.

Thursday youngest DS's school Christmas play then lunch with a friend. Getting hair cut Friday then youngest finishes school early.

Saturday we have a Santa steam train with one set of grandparents then a light show type thing.

Xmas Eve swimming and a walk. Both kids have SEN and need tiring out.

Wanttobeok · 17/12/2023 17:38

I'm on nights in a prison so I'm escaping the lot!!! 😜 👮 👮‍♂️ 🔐 🔑

LifeonMarsnotVenus · 17/12/2023 18:16

Normal week here although I do need to get around to tidying, cleaning and hoovering at some point. Been saying I'll do it since 1st December...!

We don't do much at Christmas as it's just the 3 of us, and we don't entertain or visit others, so no excess gift buying or wrapping required. Just a few bits for each person.

I also don't bother cooking a 'Christmas dinner' as the other two are fussy and wouldn't eat it. So just the usual boring meals here.

To be honest, I'll be glad when it's over and DS goes back to school. We live very rurally so he doesn't see anyone when he's on school holidays. It's all a bit boring. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Shopping for the last of the Christmas gifts
Wrapping all the presents
Amending online food delivery
Hairdressers appointment
Getting nails done mani and pedi
DC break from school
Christmas baking with the DC
Pick up the Turkey and meats from the butchers
Lunches, dinners and drinks with friends
Prep for family arriving at the weekend
Attending some local Christmas events with family

The final run up is always my favourite time 🎄

AutumnBride · 17/12/2023 19:18

I'm working all week, I'm WFH and hoping it's fairly steady one, thankfully lots of people are off this week and meetings have been cancelled.

I spent all afternoon wrapping, so just the two presents I'm waiting to be delivered to wrap when they get here, plus one present I need to put together but can't wrap until Christmas Eve night.

I'm concerned one present might not arrive which is annoying because I ordered it 25th November.

All cards and presents for people outside the house have been posted, delivered or are being delivered by the supplier.

I've got my usual food shop delivery coming on Wednesday and an extra one Christmas Eve, just need to pop out for fresh bread etc. next weekend. Need to finalise both orders.

I did a clean on Friday evening, so just need to keep on top of it, and deep clean the bathroom

.

Very hectic! Last day at work isn't until 22nd and it is one of our busiest times of year and very stressful.

Monday after work taking children to a light show thingy and out for some dinner. Tuesday after work going to the cinema, Wednesday after work taking children to see Father Christmas. Thursday seeing in laws for dinner after work. Friday before work doing my food shopping at 6am and then have my works party before breaking up. Saturday any last minute shopping before going to the theatre on Christmas Eve. Will be absolutely shattered.

roobooo · 17/12/2023 19:23

Plus the usual wrapping/dropping presents off/ etc etc

UpUpUpU · 17/12/2023 19:24

Like shit. I have a university assignment due on Friday so want that done and sent by school pick up Tuesday. Wednesday is my mums funeral, which I am dreading, then Thursday and Friday I’m alone as my son is at his dads. Hoping by then I’ll be feeling relieved and can wrap some presents and food shop. Right now it seems a long way off.

PinkflowersWhiteBerries · 17/12/2023 19:26

@Sandytoxic would you mind sharing your recipe for Gin & Tonic granita?

I found my recipe for Bucks Fizz granita today, but it wasn’t doing it for me.

Hugs to you. Any time of year is shitty for bereavement but this time of year is particularly hard 😞

FrancisSeaton · 17/12/2023 19:43

Finish work on Tuesday evening until the 27th
Maybe trip out to the Christmas market Thursday dependent on funds. Need to get maybe two more presents

monty09 · 17/12/2023 20:03

College Tuesday and Thursday, then I break up until January.
Kids break up Friday lunchtime and have just decided they don't want to go to their dads the weekend.
I have a few presents left to wrap.
Do the food shopping on Saturday, dye my SD hair, then pick my SS up on xmas eve, were going to watch Wonka on xmas Eve, then just chill until the kids go to bed.

Sorry to hear of your loss. Agree there is no good time for a bereavement, but it's particularly difficult at this time of year. Sending virtual hugs.

Monday - We’re going on a day out to a place with indoor and outdoor play, kids rides, animals and a Santa visit

Tuesday - I am going to attempt to get as much as the house tidy and ready for presents as possible and I will probably go to town at some point as I need to buy some gloves that I got my mum as a Christmas present and can’t find 🙈 I also need to write 4 cards and bake sugar cookies that I’m giving to ds’s toddler class teachers as gifts 😋

Wednesday - We’re going to a Christmas party at the children’s centre and I need to get the Leapfrog Ice Cream Cart from my parents house (and figure out where to hide it here before it can be put out on Christmas Eve) and I will take their cards and my Grandma’s presents too
I think we’re also going to buy ham/fresh buffet stuff

Thursday - I’m hoping to get the rest of the tidying/organising done

Friday - I will hopefully be taking Christmas presents to ds’s friend and his family if everyone is well and not busy!!

Saturday - We’re going to a Christmas party at one of ds’s classes with another Santa visit plus crafts and stuff

Sunday - Dp is working so I will spend the day with ds baking and decorating cookies for Santa, probably watching a Christmas movie or two, probably do some Christmas crafts and if it’s not too busy I’m thinking of taking him to soft play.
After dp has finished work we’re going to Toby Carvery for tea and then when we get back we will open our Christmas Eve boxes and dp will then do bath time with ds with the LUSH Santa bath bomb that is in his Christmas Eve box. Whilst they’re having bath time I will get all of the presents downstairs and ready for the morning and fill dp and ds’s stockings 😊

Purplecatshopaholic · 17/12/2023 20:12

Working all week. Some food shopping, housework and tidying at the weekend. Then relaxing for a few days over actual Xmas - not leaving the house or having people over, bliss.

Pandaandpurple · 17/12/2023 20:21

Working til end of Wednesday then off work until 2nd Jan. Lots and lots to do at work before Wednesday and I have a work trip to London on Tuesday, which seemed like a good idea at the time it was planned. 😀 The big Sainsbury’s order arrives on Wednesday. Thursday I’ll be wrapping all of the presents and taking my mum and elderly aunt to M&S for Christmas food shopping (and probably more shops too). Friday I have a dog free day so there’s time for more last minute bits if needed, cleaning and we’re taking the chance go out for a festive lunch. We’ll pop out to the pub on Friday night to see some friends. Saturday is a prep day then we have the family over on Christmas Eve for dinner. Actually, that doesn’t sound too bad now it’s written down! 😀🎄

Teaching till Friday 1.20. 🙄

Schools should just be set to be off a week before Christmas

I work in a school so basically just surviving until 12pm on Friday 😅. The dc I work with don't cope at all with changes to their routine or to the routine of the wider class around them so the run up to Xmas is one of the hardest weeks.

I work in SEN too, with many kids in care who basically spend christmas in a care home away from family.

Sideorderofchips · 17/12/2023 20:56

2 days left of work. Scout leaders Christmas meal. Packing. House cleaning. Flying to my parents on the Friday to spend Christmas in the UK

growingonmyass · 17/12/2023 21:07

Working (PT from home so nothing too taxing) until wed mid afternoon then going out for a Christmas meal/drinks with colleagues.
Dd is arriving for the week.
Thursday got hair cut booked in and will give the house a good clean (don't know why as it never stays clean due to dog). Out on the night for a meal with friends.
Friday is food shop and any last minute Christmas shopping/wrapping. Night in.
Saturday just more cleaning and pre cooking some things for Xmas lunch, out on the night to see a band.
Sunday will be veg prep and lay table, might have a quick trip to the pub in the afternoon!

Whattheduck · 17/12/2023 21:23

Have a days annual leave tomorrow my dd and her boyfriend are going away for the night. I’m going out for lunch with my mum then visiting a friend in the afternoon.
I don’t work Tuesday or Wednesday so Tuesday I’m going to potter about at home dd will be home later that night then Wednesday myself and dd are going to do a food shop and then I’ll finish my wrapping.
Thursday I am working 7.30 to 5.30 no plans for Thursday evening apart from picking dd up from work
Friday I am working 7.30 to 3.30 then going to my neighbors for drinks and nibbles in the evening.
Saturday I’m going to see my dad
Sunday will be a tidying day and waiting for dh to come home he’s working away and traveling home on Sunday then we’ll have nibbles and a cheeseboard in the evening.Going to mil’s Christmas Day so quite a relaxing week as no food to prepare.

rumhamm · 17/12/2023 21:29

Working Monday, Tuesday & Thursday. Tried to work it that I had a chilled week but suspect I'll be very busy!
Wrapping throughout week
Big Clean Wednesday and any town based errands
Food shop Friday morning. Early. Maybe 7am if I can get my arse up 😂
Do something nice with 3yr old & maybe 13yr old if he's not feeling 'too cool' to spend time with me Friday afternoon
Pick up Xmas meat Saturday morning
Visit my grandparents Xmas eve morning. Maybe go on a walk in the pm to tire 3yr old out.
Panic I've forgotten things.
Panic that I've found presents that need wrapping.
Wine.
