The final week in the run up to Christmas, what does it look like for you?

I have 3 and a half days work
A meal out
Parcels to collect
About 3 more presents to buy
All presents to wrap
Food shop
Hopefully all done so I can relax at home on Christmas Eve with a film and a nice dinner

I've finished work but I'll still do maybe an hour a day to keep things ticking over.

Elf duties - gable lights, Christmas tree (today), wrapping. cooking.

Last shop for veggies & dairy next weekend. Then...

Visiting family
Seeing friends
Baking for fun
Cycling & walking with my ds
eating & drinking
Maybe a bit of gardening

Not having to rush everywhere 🤗

Thisislifefornow · 17/12/2023 07:51

Today we have my brothers and their kids over to play, beige buffet and swap gifts.

Monday - Wednesday we have work, school, football training and real life.

Thursday the kids have school, DP and I are both home so we'll be wrapping and I have the big food shop arriving.

Friday we're going to see father Christmas and then to pizza hut to appease the teenager.

Saturday is our Christmas Day! Just the 4 of us for gifts and dinner and games.

Sunday, DP has a 6am -6pm shift me and DC will just be chilling I expect, may go to my uncle's drinks and nibbles late afternoon.

Then on Monday DP has the same 12hr shift so DM and single DB will be coming around but I won't be doing dinner a second time. I'm thinking pizza.

5 days left of work, then a fortnight off (can't wait).

DC2 is back from university, DC1 will be back on Tuesday. DC3 still in school, she breaks up on Thursday Hoping to take a couple of hours of flexi on the last day to go to the school Christmas service.

Today is the Nine Lessons and Carols service in the village church, followed by mince pies in the church hall.

I still have a couple of presents to buy, plus need to wrap everything.

On Friday night we're going to a Christmas show at the theatre.

On Saturday I'll be collecting my M&S food order, plus have a Tesco delivery with everything else. I also have a hairdresser appointment and an appointment for a back massage (trying to get some calm before the storm!).

ConfusedandLostt · 17/12/2023 07:54

It's actually comforting to know there are other people busy and working all week too.

I'm Working up til Friday at 4 🙃 and still have to fit in

2x school nativity's and a carol service

Parcels at a depot an hour away to collect

All the stocking fillers to go buy

Food shop to sort because despite not being the one hosting, I'm doing all the cooking

House looks like a bomb has gone off so need to do a proper clean and sort

And today I'm getting the kids back from their dad so we can travel and do an extended family "Christmas" day

Holding on by a thread and having to remind myself that it's really not a big deal in the grand scheme of things if everything isn't perfect.

mommatoone · 17/12/2023 07:55

Running round like a lunatic because ive left everything to the last minute!🎄

prettycosmos · 17/12/2023 08:13

Loads to do next week as I'm quite behind this year.
Last week was a write off as sadly my dad passed away on Monday (he was 90 and had been on palliative care for few months so not unepxected)but obviously emotionally that has taken its toll on me. I was back in work thursday/friday which was super busy

Thakfully I am now on annual leave till Jan 3rd.
so next week:

sort fridge and freezer
2 shopping deliveries arriving plus food to go order to collect
still need to buy 1 book and mugs for christmas eve bags
couple of final presents to get (about 3 I think)
majority of presents still to wrap
final check of stockings, although think they're mostly sorted
dc4 came home from uni yesterday, dc2 is coming home tomorrow and dc1 will be home next Sat Xmas Grin
need to sort dh present!
find spare bedding for dc1
out for coffee with older dc Tuesday
younger dc finish school Weds lunchtime
annual garden centre trip for hot choc and each dc buys a tree decoration Sat
traditional meal out for lunch on Sunday

also hoping to build in some time for chilling watching christmas films and crocheting - in vague hope the christmas blanket may actually be finished before next year, but mostly just because I find it realxing and Im exhausted!

At least your parcel has gone to the depot. They persist in trying to keep re delivering mine but I will never be in. Because I've updated the delivery instructions (to confirm the safe space to leave it that I already had set and they have already ignored) they won't let me adjust again to redivert it either to a local PO or the depot as they continue to ignore the safe space instruction. Going ti try a note on the door next time but kind of defeats the purpose of the safe space if it's leister on your front door. Sorry - rant over! 🙈

Pascha · 17/12/2023 08:20

Normal til Wed lunchtime then I have Thurs and Fri just me and kids. Dh home Friday evening and Saturday completely free before Sunday at in-laws.

SnowsFalling · 17/12/2023 08:25

Working all week.
But it's going to be bliss as all the after school activities have stopped, so my evenings can be spent at home.
Need to do the wrapping, make a large number of mince pies, and decorate the cake.

MrsSkylerWhite · 17/12/2023 08:27

Bit of cleaning and some food bits and pieces to buy. One gift to finish making.

ConfusedandLostt · 17/12/2023 08:31

@liveforsummer oh god! Good luck with the note. If gives you a bit of solidarity, they tried delivering them about 4 times and ignored my "leave it in the shed" change of delivery before taking it to the depot, so I understand and feel your pain.

mamaduckbone · 17/12/2023 08:34

Working right up until Friday, but essentially it will be babysitting at this point (teacher)
Cards to finish writing today.
A couple of present deliveries to arrive.
Wrapping to be done
By Christmas Eve hopefully all done, drinks with friends.

PumpkinPie2016 · 17/12/2023 08:38

I'm working until 2pm Friday. I am a secondary school teacher so mainly trying to keep lessons normal until Fri, to avoid the kids going absolutely crazy 🤪
I have quite a few work tasks I ideally want to do this week e.g. planning the dept training sessions for 1st day back, organising the homeworks for next half term etc (I am Head of Dept) - so tired though so no idea how much I will do 😂

In between, I need to wrap presents, hoping to buy the last couple today.
House needs tidying/cleaning.
Food shop needs doing - probably have to go Saturday 23rd.

DH works p/t for himself so he has some spare time between school run for DS this week and has promised to get stuck in with jobs.

I'm really looking forward to Christmas itself and some much needed time off work with DH and DS, just this week that will be crazy buy then I can relax 😌 and enjoy!

CeeJay81 · 17/12/2023 08:39

This is my week. Work in a supermarket, so busy week it shall be. However I've no more Xmas shopping to do, just some wrapping.

Monday and Tuesday(off work) - finishing the wrapping, cleaning the house and meeting a friend for a coffee and present exchange on Tuesday afternoon.

Wednesday - work plus chilling

Thursday - work plus taking daughter to last dance session before Xmas break.

Friday - xmas food shopping, followed by work, plus family coming(staying nearby), so a drink or 2 with them in the evening when I finish at 8! (Bit of a busy day😲).

Saturday - work but family are taking the kids to local town for lunch and shopping, will spend evening with them when I finish at 5.

Sunday- work. Finish at 4.15 and ready to enjoy my 2 days off with family. Hot choc and selection box ready for the kids. Food prep ready for big day. Cookie and milk put out for Santa. Will be the last year I think as my youngest is 9.

TiredOfYourNonsense · 17/12/2023 08:42

Tomorrow - Swimming, then coffee with a friend, then getting my nails done.
Tues - Meeting a friend and her husband for coffee and cake
Wed - Exchanging presents with a different friend, having lunch. Seeing GC after that.
Thurs - Buffet lunch at a social club
Fri - Seeing another friend for lunch, exchanging presents.

I'm in my 60s, finished with work. My weeks aren't usually so social Xmas Smile

worriedgal · 17/12/2023 08:46

All recovering from a horrible bug here so well behind schedule.

Today- dh and I going to start wrapping and sorting out who has what

Dd breaks up Wednesday so limping towards that

Dd1 home on Friday for Christmas and dd2 and partner arriving Saturday.

Finishing wrapping etc when time in the week

Food shop arrives Saturday so needs tweaking beforehand.

To db and family Christmas Eve for drinks and games in the afternoon

QueSyrahSyrah · 17/12/2023 08:53

I'm working 5 days with a short team as some have already finished for Christmas, and LOADS still to do before the break after a project we've been working on over-ran, plus stuff on every evening after work too.

Manic. Plus I'm 16 weeks pregnant so tire easy. I'll be a shadow come Friday and very ready for 6 days off.

Lindy2 · 17/12/2023 08:54

The kids finish on Wednesday.

I'm officially working until Friday but I can switch to just taking incoming calls from Wednesday so can be doing other stuff around the house at the same time.

There's rather a lot of cleaning and laundry to do before guests arrive on 23rd.

The Christmas present shopping is mostly done.

Anything that's freezable us already in the freezer. There's just the fresh to buy.

I have a night out with friends planned.

We have a Christmas event to go to.

I'd like to take my youngest swimming.

Once the house is a bit cleaner I will feel a lot more ready to enjoy myself.

Christmassss · 17/12/2023 08:58

RuthW · 17/12/2023 09:11

Lovely and quiet. In every night. Working everyday. No social engagements until 1/1. Bliss.

AliasGrape · 17/12/2023 09:19

3 days in work - I don’t work Fridays and had booked Thursday off as had a day of AL left I needed to use before end of the year.

Sadly not a wind down though as have just had a huge project dropped on me with an unrealistic deadline early in the New Year. I’ve said the deadline is probably not doable but I’ll do the best I can, which has been accepted!

DD in school nursery till Thursday. Friday we’re going to the trampoline place and meeting up with a friend and her DC. It’s also our wedding anniversary so when DH finished work we’re going to the pub for an early dinner (including DD as no childcare, hence going early!)

Food shop - have booked a click and collect for early Saturday morning. Relative arriving to stay Saturday evening.

Somehwere in there also need to wrap all presents, have one more to buy too. And deliver to people we won’t be seeing on the day. Cleaner coming Monday but will need to do another maintenance clean/ floors/ plus change beds etc before Saturday too.
